About the operator

- gottago20120 contributionsCanoeing with dogs! What a great canoeing adventure! We booked a day and a half of guided canoeing and stayed overnight at the lodge. A group of four adults who love dogs. We had a glorious afternoon of gentle canoeing the first afternoon taking off from behind the lodge followed by a delicious dinner of bison steak prepared by Manuela. Breakfast the next morning was excellent and we departed at 9am for a spectacular day of canoeing at a different location. Some fun rapids of various levels added a little excitement. Stopped for a great lunch and carried on for more gorgeous scenery by canoe. Jeff was a skillful guide and he brought the dog named Little One along for the day. As for the huge dog yard…We enjoyed helping to give the 124 dogs on the property their dinner and water in the evening and watching some return to their spots from being out for exercise in the larger pens. We went out for an evening walk with the 3 month old husky puppies and their mom which was a ton of fun. An incredible facility with a huge number of dogs who howl and bark from time to time but didn’t interrupt our sleep. A lot of them are retired and roam freely outside and inside the lodge and are very friendly. There’s even a bald eagle that visits regularly. If you are afraid of dogs, this is not the place for you. If you are comfortable with dogs, these ones are really happy and fun to be around. The lodge was clean, the rooms and shared bathrooms were spacious and very clean (and dog free). This is not a luxury spot - it’s a rustic lodge that is very comfortable and friendly. There’s a fridge for guests to use and a large common area to relax in and a large deck that was fabulous in the summer with a gorgeous view. We are keen to return for a winter dog sledding experience!Written 2 July 2024
- brianmC930KP0 contributionsAnother Great Wilderness Experience with MukTuk AdventuresMy wife and I canoed the Yukon River with MukTuk Adventures back in late August- early September. This time, I returned with a long-time friend for dogsledding. We did the week-long lodge-based dog musher rookie camp. I can honestly say it was another great wilderness experience. We learned how to: put booties on the dogs, harness the dogs and attach them to the G-line. We took our teams out on four days and sledded along the Yukon River and up to Kokanee Lake. In my view, running sled dogs is a transcendent experience. I'm so very glad I had MukTuk provided me that opportunity. Our last day of camp was a non-sledding day. We went to the Yukon Wildlife Preserve where Manuela took us on a tour of the facility. She then handed us off to Geoff, who took us to the local hot springs where we soaked some tired and sore muscles. Geoff and Manuela were once again wonderful hosts and a delight to be around. The food was great as always. I know of no cheesecake equal to Manuela's. I plan to return and canoe the remaining portion of the Yukon River. Geof and Manuela, again, you two could not have done better! BrianWritten 19 March 2024
- Fearless2321810 contributionsA dream come true for two dog loversThe 4-day northern lights package at Muktuk was a dream come true for two dog lovers on a bucket list trip to see the northern lights. We had a blast meeting all the dogs, shooting through the snowy trail on dog sleds, visiting the wildlife preserve, fishing on the frozen lake, riding a snowmobile, and waiting for the northern lights every night. Thank you Manuela and Jeff for the fantastic experience, exceptional food, and lovely accommodations with a view of the northern lights. Another huge thanks to Manuela for guiding us on our dog sled trip and wildlife preserve visit, plus the awesome food we couldn't get enough of! Other tourists we met on our flight back told us they saw almost no animals at the wildlife preserve and we would have also missed most of them if it weren't for our expert guide with immense knowledge of local wildlife. We were so happy we got the chance to meet everyone and the dogs at Muktuk, and hope to be able to return some day.Written 10 March 2024
- pendrell0 contributionsIncredible ExperienceNothing could have prepared me for the beauty of this trip. We booked the whole day trip for dogsledding. From beginning to end it was just amazing. Our main guides Tyler and Colton were full on professionals, they treated the dogs with utmost respect, stopping for rest stops for them etc. I was very worried, being an animal lover, that they may be overworked. Both guides were so personable and were very conscious of the dogs needs which I loved. Not to mention the wonderful, loving, friendly dogs. We fell in love with each and every one of them. We were blessed with a cloudless, bright blue sky, no wind and off we went. About 40k in total there and back. Absolutely stunning scenery all the way there and back. Wonderful BBQ for lunch with excellent hot dogs and hamburgers. Thank you Tyler !! All in all FANTASTIC trip. Would definitely recommend this trip. Loved it all the way. Want to go back again for sure. June and NelsonWritten 10 March 2024
- NathanJ6340 contributionsGreat adventure with lots of homely comfortJeff and Little One (not a husky) picked our family up from the Whitehorse airport and we were immediately made to feel at home by Jeff and Manuela. It was a delight to meet all of the dogs, who were very well cared for and excited to take us dog sledding. All of our adventures (dog sledding, yukon wildlife preserve, ice fishing and snowmobiling) were unforgettable experiences, and we were fortunate to catch a glimpse of the aurora. We thoroughly enjoyed the home cooked meals, our accommodation in the lodge, and the company of the owners and fellow travellers. Our daughter reluctantly went to say goodbye to every single husky she could find before we were taken back to the airport. We can’t thank Jeff and Manuela enough for their hospitality and would love to return one day.Written 29 February 2024
- Rodney H0 contributionsHang on...We did the dogsled adventure. My wife and I did a half day of dog sledding on the river. Tyler was our guide and he was excellent. He stopped several times to make sure we were not having any problems. The really kool thing was the fact that we drove our own teams of four dogs. It was an incredible experience that we will never forget After we got back to the dogyard, we were invited into the lodge for some very tasty homemade soup and rolls. We are already making plans to return next winter for a trip through the forest. Manuela, the owner, was an excellent host.Written 25 February 2024

- karinasQ2045GW0 contributionsYukon Winter AdventureFrom the minute we landed and met Manuela at the airport, we felt welcome. The lodge felt like a home away from home. Great conversation with other guests and lots of cuddles and kisses from the dogs around the house. The dog sledding was an experience we will never forget. Sledding through the Yukon forest with your own team is something everyone must do once in your life. The wildlife preserve gave us a chance to see many of the Yukons wildlife up close. The hot springs was a welcome treat after a long day of excitement. Ice fishing saw us bag a nice Lake trout and Manuela was kind enough to cook up our catch for an entree before dinner. A word of warning, do not visit if you are on a diet! The food is exceptional and it is impossible to resist. Thank you Manuela and Jeff! We both had such an amazing experience at Muktuk and can’t wait to visit again.Written 30 December 2023

It was the perfect location for us, and the memories will be with us forever. Our guests loved the food and the accommodations. - brianmC930KP0 contributionsGreatest Wilderness Experience of My LifeMy wife and I did the 134-mile canoe trip down the Thiry Mile River, then on down the Yukon to Carmacks. Jeff and Manuela are special people. Our stay in the lodge both the night before and the night after the canoe trip was most enjoyable. We met some interesting people. The food Manuela prepared was excellent and we even got to enjoy some of her scrumptious brownies. Jeff shared some of his music collection with us. We got up in the middle of the first night there to get a glimpse of the Northern Lights. The trip down the river was excellent with our guide, Joe Bishop. Although I had previously done some canoeing, I learned a lot from Joe about both canoeing and the Yukon. We stopped at many historic spots along the way. So much history about mining and steamboats. The Yukon River is magnificent. It is true wilderness. We saw abundant wildlife such as bald eagles and enjoyed the silence of the wilderness. It was the greatest wilderness adventure of my life. In fact, enjoyed the Muktuk experience so much I am returning in the winter to run sled dogs. I'm hoping my wife will join me on that adventure as well. One more thing, the dogs at MukTuk are special and so much fun to be around. They are loved and well cared for. Jeff and Manuela, thank you for a wonderful experience. You could not have done better. I wear my Muktuk Adventures ball cap with great pride! My friend are envious. See you in the winter. Please keep that MukTuk parka ready for me. Manuela, you know which one I mean!Written 12 September 2023

Highly recommend.Written 23 August 2023

Where do I begin? My husband and I spent our honeymoon at Muktuk and we had such an amazing time. Our cabin (Shiloh's Chalet) was perfect and had THE most amazing view. We took pictures every single morning off our balcony because it was just stunning. So quiet and peaceful. You could only hear the dogs howling/barking if you were outside and even then it was faint. The cabin itself was very clean and cozy and we loved curling up on the couch with a crackling fire at night. Manuela and Jeff are the best. They made sure we had everything we needed for a fantastic stay and were very helpful with information and guidance on local treasures to check out. Manuela was very sweet and attentive...always saying good morning when we stopped at the lodge for breakfast and having a conversation about our plans and what we had experienced so far. She also makes some tasty brownies =). Every single staff member we encountered were super friendly and just had the best attitude and love of animals. Which brings me to the dogs. We love dogs and Muktuk dogs are exceptional! They are all so friendly and so sweet. On our first morning we made the rounds and met every single dog. We very quickly grew fond of so so many of them, but in particular Weasley, Lightfoot, Haley, and Reeces. We were sure to stop and greet/pet all four of those dogs every single day no matter what, and then usually whatever other dogs were vying for attention. Our fall training run was so much fun. An actual sled ride would have been cool, but we knew when we booked our trip it wasn't the right time of year for it so the ATV was the next best thing. It was still an experience to be remembered forever. Bucket list? Check off dog sled ride for me and northern lights viewing for me and my husband, which were finally visible our final 2 nights. What a way to end the trip. We didn't want to leave, but were glad to be home to our own furbabies.

From the moment one of the owners, Jeff, and his four-legged co-pilot Little One met us at the Whitehorse airport, we knew that Muktuk Adventure’s description as “A Place for People who Love Dogs” is the truth they live by.
The lodge where we stayed has the rustic charm of a real off-the-grid, environmentally friendly and super comfortable log cabin in the Northern wilderness. The rooms are so cozy and neatly decorated, just what we needed for a long, relaxing sleep after staying up watching the fantasy that is the Aurora Borealis from the cabin’s deck, accompanied by two of the friendly resident dogs. The food, hand made by Manuela, is delicious, healthy, and so abundant, that we felt absolutely spoilt. They also cater to vegetarians and will go the extra mile to accommodate the guests’ every need.
The activities they offer are exactly what we dreamed of. We had a fun, fast paced ride with some of the sled dogs, whose enthusiasm is contagious; they could barely wait to start pulling the vehicle. It is very reassuring for dog lovers like us, to see how the owners respect and care for their dogs, and we even had the chance to help harness, feed, and water the dog team before and after the ride. Later we had a walk to the Takhini river with Jeff and a bunch of non-working dogs and an afternoon visit to the Yukon Wildlife Preserve, with our own expert and knowledgeable guide Manuela, who showed us and told us the story of amazing arctic wild animals we had seen only on documentaries! They have their own wide, natural space, up close yet safe for them and the visitors.
Muktuk Adventures is perfect to immerse yourself in the real Canadian North, to share the love for dogs and nature in comfort, safety and a home-like place where you wish you could stay forever.

Muktuk is a team who make your dreams come true!
So good planned tours which include everything that it is possible to do in that area:
- Dogs sliding in the winter snowy forest - we saw the dog's behavior and specific of each role of each dog n this process :)
- Dogs feeding and petting them :) in the free time - each dog is a real person with own character and mood, but all are so kind and cute :)
- Natural reserve with many unusual animals. We saw a lot!!! just for 1 day: goats, moose, elks, caribous, foxes, ground squirrels, lynxes, muskoxen :)
- Cozy night fire on the river shore in the night,
- Stanning views from river shore hills in the day time,
- North Lightening - it is amazing experience! We are waiting for it and it appeared in the early morning :) Manuela did pictures of us with the Lightening on her professional camera :) Spent with us few hours on the cold to do the best pictures with different views to provide us with the best memories :)
- We also saw how low is the sun in the winter time even in the midday time - so interesting experience :) have never seen it before :)
Manuela and her husband are very hospitable, met their quests in airport. Manuela cooks so great food - much tasty that in any restaurant I have ever tried!
So warm and cozy evenings with fireplace in amazing comfortable wood house with cup of tea and sharing interesting stories about the dogs and life in North area :)
And of course - some cute and gentle dogs are the part of these evenings :)
Very warm and comfortable in the house, hot water in the shower, so clean and made with love to the quests :)
Thank you so much! Really recommend Muktuk! Ad definitely - plan to come back there again!

Not only did I experience an adventure of a lifetime between riding the ATV pulled by the dogs and canoeing down the stunningly beautiful Takhini River, Manuela and Jeff make you feel like you are part of their family. Their kids may be over a 100 well-trained, adorable dogs, but you'll leave feeling like you're one of the clan.

Thank you so very much. We enjoyed having you being part of our clan even if it was just for a short time. The Yukon is a very special place and we are very happy to hear that you enjoyed it. Hopefully you get to come back and experience it in the winter or summer.

Where to start?
Obviously the dogs are a key part of Mutluk; happy, healthy and loved pooches. I had the pleasure of going on training with the sled dogs and it was a “first” I won’t forget. Canoeing down the Tahini River is another “wow” experience. Not a soul in sight, just the fall colours, the water and the wildlife. Beaver watching after supper is not to be missed and is quite fascinating. The Northern Lights made an appearance and it was worth the “will they/won’t they” check ins during the night to catch a glimpse.
What makes Muktuktruly special is Jeff and Maruela. They care about the dogs, the environment and their guests. The food is great, and the service exceptional. It’s not anonymous Marriott style service, it’s homely and off the grid. I will definitely be back! Thank you for such a wonderful time.

We joined Muktuk for the 3-day Fall Colours Tour and enjoyed it so much we added a guided tour of Kluane. The staff and volunteers were so courteous and made every effort to accommodate the arthritis pain I was experiencing to ensure I was able to participate in every possible capacity. Jeff took us on several river walks with the dogs, taught us about sled dog care, and was generally just so generous and welcoming. Manuela is so kind and an amazing wealth of knowledge (and crazy good cook!) and put together a wonderful time in Haines Junction and Kluane for us. Muktuk clearly cares a great deal about their dogs and the services they offer clients. We highly recommend them!

We had a wonderful time at Mutuk and thanks for the hospitality from Manuela /Jeff/ Mary. All meals were included and you don’t have to worry about the food. It was quite a place with around 140 doggies at the kennel. They were well trained and adorable. Some were even kept at the lodge where we stayed. We can play with them all the time. I had also joined their activates like paddling / hot spring & wild life preserves visit. All were well organized and we had fun especially with the Autumn ATV training with the dogs. Those dogs were trained for their winter sledding. We learned a lot about the dogs training.
I strongly recommend people who come at fall as you can taste much in this lovely weather.
