About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Alan D0 contributionsTrip to MontmorecyPrice for coach trip ton Montmorecy falls was expensive in it self, having to add cost of return flight on elevator nearly doubled cost. Save money and go up on elevator and walk down stairs on way back.Written 7 October 2024
- Scimommy0 contributionsWonderful tour and time well spentMarcel was an excellent driver AND tour guide. He made sure there was the right amount of time at each stop. Marcel adjusted the order of stops to take advantage of the spectacular morning weather. We enjoyed the beautiful Montmorency Falls first and chose to walk up some of the steps overlooking the Falls. Beautiful rainbows appeared at mid-day. We were surprised and delighted with the stop at the Albert Giles copper museum. One of the owners (now run by the 5 daughters of the founder) demonstrated the craft. We then wandered about to admire the intricate works by the late founder as well as the current descendant owners. I bought a lovely necklace/earring set designed by Sophie, a third-generation niece. The finale for us was the visit to St. Anne deBeaupre, the church where my late mother-in-law had visited. It was wonderful to visit this beautiful church with intricate copper doors designed by Giles. Thank you, Marcel, for a well conducted tour.Written 6 October 2024
- P9676XFjohnh0 contributionsStarted off looking like a disaster but improved over timeUnknown to us this was the day of the Quebec marathon, so things were somewhat chaotic in the city. However, being one of the largest tour operators in the area you would have thought Unitours would have know and, more importantly, contacted people with reservations. They were quick enough to charge my credit card but failed to mention that the departure location was changed to about a mile away! So, when no bus was to be seen and the place full of runners, police and security guards we started to panic. We were at the designated place 20 minutes ahead of time but not until we enquired at the tourist office we told of the change in plan and directed where to walk. We finally arrived at the new location and saw about half a dozen busses but none marked with any kind of signage. We asked one driver and he pointed to a blue bus. That driver pointed to a red bus and that guide scanned our ticket and told us we were too late. We kept asking but he had no record of our reservation. He then contacted the office who waved some kind of magic wand and put us on another bus. Total chaos. Not the slightest sign of any kind of organization. Nobody knew what was going on. When the bus finally left, 0ver 30 minutes late, it took another 30 minutes to travel one block. OK, not the bus companies fault but with some kind of planning they could have picked a better location. So now an hour late leaving the city we were rather rushed through the various stops. The only thing that salvaged a one rating was that the driver knew his stuff and did a good job guiding is through the various locations. Would have rather spent more time in the Basilica than the 15 minutes we were given (allowing for walking a restroom stops). So, a really bad start for which I blame the company and a pretty good trip for which I praise the driver/guide. PS. Having a driver also act as guide is a significant safety hazard. One should not talk on the phone and drive so why make your drivers talk. Too cheap to hire guides I expect. Not a good company.Written 6 October 2024
- Maureen L0 contributionsWonderful guideRelaxing and informative. Yves did a wonderful job of explaining the scenery, the history, the architecture and wildlife as we drove, and he did it with tasteful humor. The stops were well planned and enjoyable. The basilica was amazing and surrounded by beautiful trees in full color. At the falls there was enough time for those who wished to ride the trolley car. Yves made the trip very special and I appreciated his wealth of local knowledge and lore. Highly recommend this tourWritten 5 October 2024
- mesatraveler0 contributionsWell planned and executedThese are the top two sights around Quebec City and it makes sense to combine them into a half-day excursion. The falls are actually taller than Niagara and easy to enjoy up close. The basilica is a short visit around the grounds or inside and worth a stop.Written 4 October 2024
- rchorse0 contributionsThis is a don't-miss tour! This tour was so much better than I had anticipated. The places we visited were interesting but the very best part was our driver/guide, Francois. He was engaging, entertaining and educational. The Ste-Anne-de Beaupre Basilica was stunning. The copper factory was most interesting. The Montmorency Falls were beautiful. And who can go wrong with an ice cream/chocolate stop. The two decker bus was clean and comfortable. We got to see countryside and neighborhoods outside of the walled city. Plus a tour of the Island of Orleans was very pleasant.Written 4 October 2024
- bctraveller7010 contributionsTourists were treated with disrespectWe started this tour off on the with a real challenge. We arrived about 20 minutes early at the designated meeting place … there was no one there. We asked a security guard nearby who directed us to stand nearby. Somehow we missed the tour bus and guide. At precisely 2 minutes after the designated arrival time, we received a phone call from Unitours telling us we had missed the bus and had to take a cab to the next stop on the tour. We are not sure why they could not have called us a minute or two earlier so that we could have made the bus. We were glad to finally join the tour but we left wondering about why a tour company would treat visitors to Quebec City so rudely. The tour visited some interesting places but we were disappointed. The guide was also the bus driver. He drove and talked most of the way … many people on the bus just talked over him.Written 29 September 2024
- lesb7850 contributionsRecommendedExcellent and informative, we especially appreciate tour guide Peter. The tour covered all the major historic and architectural feature if this lovely city. Peter was humorous, knowledgable and personable. He welcomed us personally and made us fell welcomedWritten 28 September 2024
- jimpD8239HT0 contributionsYou need smaller buses! The stops and guide were terrific! Only drawback was the huge 60+ seat double deck bus took 5-10 minutes to load and 10 minutes to unload at each stop.Written 28 September 2024
- 351bharatp0 contributionsWell-planned & comfortable tripIt was a great trip. Very well planned, very comfortable & we were given enough time at every location we visited. The bus we were on, had issues with cooling, but that was resolved at our 1st stop itself where the organisers got in a new bus.Written 28 September 2024
- bucketlist4teaw0 contributionsGood tourExcellent itinerary in tour but tight schedule. I would suggest that the tour needs at least 1 more hour. The places visited were excellent, and each one held its own charm and interest. As this may be our one and only visits to these places, we were not given enough time for even the briefest of encounter. The copper museum, we were given 20 mins, had so much to see on the show, let alone make any purchase. It took us 5mins+ just to get off the bus. Isle de Orleans was superb but again rushed. So I recommend tour , but operator please give us more time to enjoy. Don't just grab our money and make us run.Written 26 September 2024
- Mhsskipper0 contributionsMuch more than just the fallsGreat tour. In addition to the beautiful falls, the church was really spectacular. The stop for chocolate was good, too. FYI There are also sandwiches there. If you order the ice cream with chocolate, be aware that it is very thick. Not a basic American dip cone. Lol. The copper arts place was interesting. Great way to spend an afternoon. Great tour- our driver was Francois.Written 26 September 2024

- SeniorTravelTales0 contributionsTerrific Shuttle for a visit to Montmorency FallsA great way for transportation to Montmorency Falls. It is the Blue Line bus and you can reserve ahead. We booked for the 10:45AM. The two decker blue Bus was at intersection by Tourist Center in Old Quebec on Rue St. Anne. It was only about 15 minute ride to the Falls. We had time to walk the lower promenade, take cable car to top, walk to bridge over the falls, stop for lunch at the Manoir Manor Restaurant and Terrace, return on cable car then catch the Blue Line Bus at 2:00PM (14:00) for return to the city. Arriving early was great as it got crowded later in day. The Blue Line bus was perfect. Additionally, it was a beautiful sunshine day for enjoying these fantastic waterfalls. We had plenty of time to explore the falls. Highly recommend the Blue Line Bus. The Bus Driver was excellent, too. We left on time and he returned on time for for leaving the Falls.Written 23 September 2024
- 860Vetman0 contributionsA bit disappointing.OK tour, the falls were nice but the rest of the trip other than the copper museum was a bit disappointing. Other stops made were at a chocolate store and the church. The chocolate store was jammed with other people on tour as well.Written 23 September 2024

We purchased tickets for the hop hop off bus tour but the organisation of the buses was very poor with long queues. There was no benefit in buying the tickets in advance as you have to queue up with people buying tickets when they get on the bus. The weather forecast was poor but as we had no refund option we had no choice but to go.
In the event it started raining early in the tour but with a full bus we had to endure the rain on the top deck. Although it was billed as a hop on hop off bus the bus stopped and waited on two occasions to let a number of people go to the toilet, while those on the top deck got soaked.
Quebec is a small city and other than the old town is of limited interest. Would suggest that walking the centre is more enjoyable and far better value for money!

When visiting a city I always try and do the hop on hop off bus as a way to get to all the major attractions and sights - this one was incredibly disappointing. There was nothing I wanted to “hop off” to see that wasn’t walkable in the city. We actually missed some stops at the end of the tour so it was a waste of over $60 each. There was some interesting information about the city but nothing that I couldn’t learn in another way.
Quebec City is a wonderfully walkable city so I’d give this tour a miss.

As always the best way to see a city is on the open top bus tour, with a 48 hour ticket you can do the full tour and then use it to get to different places to check out and then either go to the next or back to your starting point. Depending on where you stay, there is a stop very close to the Chateau Frontenac, apparently one of the most photographed spots in the world. We definitely recommend the hop on hop off bus, the staff were friendly when getting the tickets and the driver gave us a good commentary when the taped one decided to stop working.

Recorded script is very dull and bland tourist fodder - no attempt to share any insider knowledge or reflect any contemporary issues - could have been written 25 years ago. Bad value for money compared to tours I’ve experienced in other cities for similar cost with live guides offering wit and unique knowledge.. It did cover a lot of ground - so from a distance perspective if you purely want to look at the scenery it does the job but I didn’t come away with any insight about what made the city tick. We went at about 11.30 on a Wed and had no problems getting a seat on the top deck. Also worth taking a jumper for the city’s erratic weather!

My wife and I do hop on hop off in almost every new major city we visit for the first time. I have to say this one in Quebec City was one of the least impressive we’ve taken. It’s advertised as about an hour and a half long but the reality is your stopped several times for extended periods of time. In our case we were on the top level in sweltering heat while the bus sat there and went nowhere. Plus there’s a lot of doubling back so you’re seeing the same thing twice. All in all not a very impressive tour and at over $50 (Canadian) a person it’s pretty pricey. And by all means avoid stop one as it’s a mob of people there trying to get on. The narration was OK, but there were long stretches with just music. Not sure why they wouldn’t fill-in by telling us more about what we were seeing and/or the history of the city. Again, this is one of the least impressive hop on hop off buses we’ve ever taken.

We thought that for the cost of the tour it would be a bit more substantial - for example a live tour guide would have helped.
Regardless, due to the limited number of buses the hop on hop off feature wasn’t really very useful. We ended up walking to most of our destinations.

We’ve taken several bus tours in other cities and this one was the worst. Sadly we didn’t get much history or info about the city, mostly lectures about “karma” and tipping. I wish I were kidding. Boarding and ticketing were quite disorganized and the employees were cranky. They stopped for about 10 minutes once to track down who had paid and who hadn’t while we roasted in the heat. No apologies or explanations. The bus was old and not air conditioned in the indoor/bottom half like you usually see. It’s terribly overpriced for what you get unfortunately.

I would highly recommend that you take this tour as it’s a fantastic way of seeing the tourist sites. The cost is approximately $90.00 for two people and it’s well worth it. You can get off and on anytime during the day. Sit up top as the view is much better.

One aspect of the two day hop-on, hop-off is the ability to discover interesting venues for yourself the first day, then visit them the second. This was true of the Museum of Civilisation, whose exhibits could clear take two days to absorb. Even though, I had lived in Québec for 6 months, I discovered new areas of Québécois culture I had not seen before or had seen in a far different light. Nothing beats riding in an open air, double decker bus and waving at pedestrians for lifting your spirits. It’s such a beautiful city!

That's how HoHo should be: Punctual and reliable, interesting, all places in one tour with working audio system on really all buses (unfortunately currently not the standard - so big thank you for that). All staff very friendly and helpful. Routes adapted to current situation including different audio. We found it awesome after the experiences in Toronto and Ottawa with different providers.

where is the parking area for my car which is closest to the 1st stop of hop on/ hop off bus tour?
Written 17 August 2022
There is technically no 1st stop because you can catch it at any of the stops. We stayed at the Hotel Palace Royal which happened to be right next door to the stop at Place D’Youville, so our car was parked at the hotel. If you are staying close to the Old Quebec City area, then you could access that spot fairly easily. The Plains of Abraham stop seemed to have a fair amount of parking as well.

Where is the pickup? Where does it begin?
Written 21 February 2020
I would advise if your location and your own physical abilities allow to go the Plaza Center. You can get on at any stop... but it is easier and more convenient to start at the beginning and do entire ride and then go back and pick out where you want to go. Worth the cost and it is a great way to get the lay of the land.
