- pleasureseeker22350 contributionsMarch Break Fun!Enjoyable and educational time with our 3 grandkids! Great interactive experiences for the kids. Meeting the experts in each area added to knowledge of our budding scientists! I even learned quite a few new things. Staff was excellent in all areas and helpful in guiding us to the different activities. Lunch at the Druxys cafe was a nice break. Lots of fun and learning too!Written 14 March 2025
- 253louisev0 contributionsCompréhensive museumLoved it but as with all major museums there’s a lot to see and it can get overwhelming. The museum is beautifully curated, spacious with lovely staff everywhere ready to answer any questionsWritten 12 March 2025
- 444tildet0 contributionsVery uncultured security check! We have family membership and this year we deeply regret it - my husband and I reserved out tickets in advance and were asked to leave at the door both because of our keychains. During this unfortunate event, the security staff were rude and snarky, making us feel like criminals. I would have gladly left my keychain at home, and spared myself the humiliation, if ONLY we were notified about the new and strict security measures at the point of reserving the tickets. It is a bit late when you are already at the door and they inform you to "throw away your belongings or turn away". I hope people without membership who pay for a ticket ahead of time and travel from farther away do not get bullied this way. Our happy place to go during long winter months has just turn sour.Written 3 February 2025
- D7853FAheathers0 contributionsAuschwitz exhibition and doors to the ROMAuschwitz exhibition is excellent- took 2.5 hours. Take your time. Beware of automatic doors to ROM. They will crush you if you are slow. They do not sense if someone is in the doorway and will not reopen. We had to pull them away from a family member who was using a mobility device and got trapped by closing doors.Written 1 February 2025
- TorontoFanula0 contributionsMehThe process on entry was great. There is not much guidance but a brochure and noone super friendly and helpful. The museum itself has some artifacts of interests, and a new area around the dinosaurs, but perhaps comparing to other major cities and their museums, this is a disappointing experience. Not very interactive and not very interesting. The layout was o.k. not as crowded as other museums around the world. It's very expensive for what you get for your dollar.Written 27 January 2025
- J1147SLpaulm0 contributionsHostile, abusive security protocolsThe new security protocols at the entrance are so abusive, so incompetently implemented, and staffed by the surliest, most hostile people I have ever encountered in a museum. Senior ROM staff need to scrap this immediately and go back to the drawing board. I am a longtime member and will not be renewing if this continues.Written 6 January 2025
- bcsystems0 contributionsGreat for indoor family activityThe ROM is 4 levels of diverse art, history and natural displays. I found the ROM more family friendly given the natural history artifacts would be of more interest to young children. If you are are traditional art lover looking for paintings and scupltures, I found the ROM lacking.Written 3 January 2025
- 2TravelersMn0 contributionsNot to Be Missed.....The Royal Ontario Museum is Canada's largest museum. It makes science, art and archeology exhibits accessible and appealing. The building itself is a wonder! It is a series of prismatic shapes spilling out onto Bloor Street. Another highlight is the Hyacinth Gloria Chen Crystal Court which is a four-story atrium with aluminum bridges that connects the old and the new wings the museum.Written 15 December 2024
- robertamD3486OT0 contributionsGreat museum, not enough benches in some areas for those with disabilities to sit down. The contents of the museum are incredible. We did find the map hard to follow because it wasn't always easy to determine where we were on the map in order to know which direction to head next. Also, from an accessibility viewpoint, there were not enough benches, particularly in the Greek/Roman/Egypt area. I have a disability and was struggling and keeping an eye out for them and they just weren't appearing. Strangely, at the entrance to the China section there was such a plethora of assorted benches and seats in such a small area that I was trying to comprehend if it was meant as a gathering place (though it didn't seem like that).Written 28 November 2024

- CJTravelerTexas0 contributionsA Great MuseumIt has been close to a decade since I last visited the ROM, and I wanted to see it again. On a Tuesday my Canadian colleague and I entered just as the ROM opened and after paying our admission fee we began our examination of the exhibits. As we typically do in museums, we started at the top floor and worked our way down. The third floor was devoted to Ancient Greece, Ancient Cyprus, Bronze Age Aegean, Rome, Nubia, Egypt, Byzantium, Africa, and Europe. On the second floor were exhibits on biodiversity and animals. And the first floor contained exhibits from Korea, China, and First Peoples. This is a fascinating museum; unfortunately, the quality of our visit deteriorated around 10:30 AM, when multiple classes of poorly supervised grade and high school children on field trips invaded the building. While going from the second to first floor on an obscure elevator, we were informed by a staff member that school field trips frequently occur on Tuesdays. We made our way around these loud and ill-behaved juveniles and decided to conclude our visit after two hours. As we left the ROM, we noticed a number of yellow school buses lined up on the street adjacent to the museum.Written 24 October 2024
- FuzzyBeaver0 contributionsCats special exhibitThe special exhibit is extremely well done. They pack a ton of information into each area. We learnt so many interesting facts. Be sure to take the time to watch the various videos. The videos have stunning examples of cats playing, hunting, etc.Written 23 September 2024
- alohatripper0 contributionsEye-catching building but you need to go inside and see the exhibitsThe museum is opposite our hotel Sonesta Yorkville. I've been to many museums, but ROM has to be one of the top ten, maybe in the world. In every level, in every room, and every corner is an artifact or exhibit that is world-class or, at least, rare and significant. We still had more to see when we left because Toronto is such a wonderful city for both residents and visitors.Written 19 September 2024
- LexiV0 contributionsEclectic CollectionThis museum seems to be an interesting combination of a natural history museum and an art museum. It's huge; even with some areas currently closed for remodeling, it takes several hours to see everything. It must be even longer with the special, additional tickets required, exhibitions, which we did not do. We found a lot to enjoy here, but it is a very eclectic collection. We had lunch here in the café on the first floor, which was well priced and delicious. While we were eating, there was an opera singer with accompaniment in the lobby, which was very enjoyable. I would like to return when the current renovations are completed.Written 5 September 2024

I had heard good things about the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), but my expectations of museums in Canada are pretty low. But this visit proved me wrong. This is a big museum. It very much reminded me of the museums in Paris, or the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City... not nearly as big, but one can certainly spend an entire day there and not see everything.
We happened to be in Toronto on the Third Thursday of the month, so admission is free in the evening. We got there right at 4:30pm, and the line up to get inside went down the entire block with probably hundreds of people waiting. Thankfully, the museum is so big, that line up to get inside went really fast.
We took our time for the first 30-45 minutes, and was really impressed with the collections. After visiting the T.Rex exhibit, we realized we were already there for over an hour and hadn't even finished the first floor. Being mindful that we had teens with us, we started to go through bit faster to cover more ground. By 2 hours, we barely finished the 2nd floor and got to the 3rd floor. By that time, our kids had tapped out, so we decided to leave.
Overall, a great museum with impressive collections. If you love museums, you can easily spend a good portion of your day here.

The museum is extensive and there are some fantastic displays. 9 of us (5 children) spent more than 4 hours exploring the different levels. The children's interactive play area is great for all ages, and there was a lot to keep everyone interested.
There were a lot of school / children's groups especially in the free areas, and there are a lot of renovation works ongoing, meaning some areas were boarded off and there was some construction noise.
The cafe is very expensive, the prices in the shop are so high we actually started laughing as we'd never seen prices like it. I'm talking double and triple digits nonsense!

Our visit to the “Royal Ontario Museum” was absolutely amazing! We joined the “Museum Highlights Tour” led by a lovely guide who made the experience even more enjoyable. It was such a nice touch from the museum management to offer these guided tours for free—very thoughtful and much appreciated.
The staff were incredibly helpful and kind, always ready to assist with any questions. Overall, it was a fantastic visit, and I highly recommend taking advantage of the guided tours to get the most out of this incredible museum.

Well, we went to see the special exhibit on Cats, which was very informative and visually appealing. The trouble started when we were told that we only had general admission tickets all the other special exhibits were added costs. I did not see this when I bought the tickets online, and did not see an option to add them.
The second issue was the number of children's groups on site. There were so many children there, it was impossible to see the displays up close and read the captions. When I went as a child, we were kept in a group, led by a guide, and had to stay with that group. No running around, no rude behavior, respect for other patrons.
This was on a Wed. and we left after seeing the Cat exhibit, disappointed to miss the rest of the museum. These groups should be kept to a reasonable number and made to follow the code of conduct as published by the museum.

Extremely expensive and as a canadian Citizen I feel disappointed with the amount of taxes we pay that we still have to spend over $53 dollars for my daughter 11 years old and me. Without including special exhibitions which are extra. I have been to New York and residents get suggested ticket price more as a form of donation. Because they pay taxes. I have been in Europe and in London England museums are free. Again donations are welcome. But with inflation, charging a single mother with one child $53 and change amount of dollars for a few hours in a museum. Seem abusive and pure robbery. The museum itself is in construction right now so there is a lot of blocked areas that you can not get to see. Still full price and very very expensive for the average Canadian. This Museum is the only choice for a lot of people with children specially in winter when outdoor activities are limited, but who can afford this?
Huge disappointment!

The ROM is packed with fascinating exhibits and so much to see—it’s worth the visit! The museum offers a wonderful mix of history, culture, and science, making it an exciting destination for all ages. While admission is a bit pricey, the variety and quality of the exhibits make it a memorable outing. The layout is easy to navigate, and it’s very accessible with a stroller, which is a big plus for families.
Kids especially love the interactive areas, but parents might find themselves holding their breath near the delicate, up-close displays. Some exhibits are surprisingly within arm’s reach, which can be a little nerve-wracking when visiting with younger children. The architecture of the building is stunning and adds to the overall experience, making every corner of the museum feel special.
There’s plenty of space to explore, and the museum does a great job of keeping the exhibits engaging for visitors of all interests. It’s a great spot for learning, exploring, and creating lasting memories. Overall, the ROM is a must-visit for anyone in Toronto looking for a fun and educational day out!

It's a big museum with an extensive collection so try to allow many hours to experience it. We also went on a collection highlight tour led by a docent and I would very much recommend that. The museum has excellent wide ranging exhibits. The dinosaurs, ethnography and the minerals and gems are particularly good.
The first floor is free but it's well worth it to see the other floors, too.

This was my second visit to ROM. I still think that it is an extraordinary museum with many interesting artifacts and exhibits worth seeing. Both times, I spent in excess of 5 hours in the ROM and still did not see everything (one must be selective). So far, so good. Now the not so positive aspects: Admission is way too expensive, additional cloak room fees are applied (totally inappropriate), and the cafeteria prices are too steep (CDN $ 14.00 for a Cappuccino and an Almond Croissant are ridiculous). What bothered me most, however, was one of ROM’s volunteers who tried to reprimand me for picking up an item on a display table (the item was meant to be picked up and touched). She claimed that I should have asked for help (if I need help of any kind, I’ll ask for it). Such overeagerness and presumed entitlement on the volunteer’s part was totally inappropriate and uncalled for. I advise you to educate your employees in such a manner that they do not offen your visitors.

Security is horrible. Unlike any other civilized museum they expect you to wait OUTSIDE in a Canadian winter. Rain snow or otherwise. Shockingly rude and brusque security guards barking out conflicting directions.
I am appalled at how poor the experience has become and would NOT recommend visiting the ROM. Hopefully declining attendance will inform them of how poor the experience is.
DO NOT BECOME A MEMBER. If I had known what a horrific experience just getting into the museum would become I would never have renewed.

I came here 6-8 years ago and loved my experience. I knew that upon my return to Toronto, visiting this museum would be a non-negotiable. It is still as incredible as I remembered, although I have a few qualms. The fonts of the description need to be bigger on many of the exhibits, especially the Ancient Egyptian as I found myself squinting a lot. Often times, there would be little trinkets that would not be labelled, as well so you would be left scratching your head, wondering what exactly they are. I am also unsure why the lighting in some parts of the floor were dimmer than the rest. Is this to preserve the artifacts or did the lights just ran out? Either way, I had to squint a lot and it felt sad that the dim light made the spaces feel abandoned. I would also suggest clearer directions, as I would have completely missed the African section if my friend had not gone on a previous guided tour and they covered that. Despite these little things, I still loved it, it's well worth it and I would go again!

Hi, I am currently attempting to purchase tickets for the museum. The original website for the museum states youth age range is 15 to 19 years old but if i wish to purchase through Trip Advisor a youth comes up as 15 to 25 years old. Does this mean some age 21 could go as a youth or must they be purchased as an adult for entry.
Thank you
