        Amazing experience!
Julian and Steve, the dynamic adventure duo! Can’t thank them enough for helping us make the most out of our trek out to Yellowknife! We booked everything with this company- 4 nights of aurora (and saw the fantastic lights every night!) as well as ice fishing, snowmobiling and dogsledding. We even had a chance to do some back country snowmobiling and ice fishing, cooking up what we caught, which was a real surprise. It is certainly a small company which offers the most affordable tours in YK so - but if you keep that in mind and you’re patient and flexible, you’ll have a great time. Julian and Steve were very energetic, personable and all about making sure we had great adventures and memories that will last a lifetime :) I’m sure they get tons of guests each year but for us, when we think back, we’ll always remember how Julian and Steve made the trip a blast!!

12/10 Will DEFINITELY do again!! Ask for Julian or Steve, they’re the best!!
What an amazing and AWESOME experience!! Thank you so much Steve for sharing your expertise and being the best guide EVER!! From going over the snowmobiles, to sharing stories, to cooking up some smokies, to stopping on the middle of the lake to look up at the Aurora (twice!), this was truly and unforgettable experience! Steve took dozens of pictures which were wayyyyyy better than anything we got… I would definitely recommend getting the picture package, fully worth every penny 👍

Cancelled 1 hr before & won’t refund me
0 stars. They cancelled my booking an hour before and they won’t respond to my request for a refund. I understand things happen but the communication and customer service is horrible. I am still trying to get my refund! We booked with a different company for $15 more at the last minute and had a great time!!

        Great value, amazing tour !
Julian was an amazing guide and took us on an incredible 1 hour tour. The tour started with a prompt complimentary pick up from our hotel. We were provided with very well maintained new equipment including heated helmets and handlebars. These allowed for an enjoyable ride in the cold. I booked this tour with my adult son and Julian was able to provide an enjoyable experience for both of us allowing him to speed through the trails, powder, and across lakes while I was able to tag along at a slower more comfortable pace. He was able to safely guide both of us and allowed for a safe exciting experience! This tour was a great value and priced low for a private tour. Would not hesitate to use this guide !!! Thanks Julian :)

        An exciting experience
This tour with Julian was absolutely perfect. He picked us up from our Airbnb and greeted us with a big smile. When we arrived we were given helmets and a quite brief introduction on how to operate the snowmobile. Julian mentioned that it was easy to steer but I surely hat my problems at first. I am used to driving a motorbike and using my body weight which is absolutely not possible with a snowmobile. You really have to steer quite hard. Julian gave me some extra tips and after 10 mins I got a lot better an towards the end I felt comfortable and could go a lot faster. A 2 hour tour would have been perfect. But even the one hour tour was perfect for an introduction and our group came back with smiling and excited faces. The tour started at around 3:30pm which was awesome because we got to drive in the afternoon/evening sun. Even though this wasn't a private tour, we were only three people so it was really personal. An absolute bonus were the heated helmets and blankets. I didn't feel cold once. If I come back, I would book my tour with Julian again!

        Amazing Fun Skidoo Trip
We had a fabulous tour over the lakes and through the forest. Skidoos were really fun. You have to be careful to steer them correctly in the thick snow. The heated helmets were a great idea! Justin went out of his way to help my daughter get to grips with driving the skidoo once we were on the lake. She was able to build her confidence and ride it alone. As it was a private tour we were able to determine the pace and also stop to take drone footage. If you would like to see it on YouTube search up 'Yellowknife Canada Skidoo Trip'

Great tour company for Aurora hunting and snowmobile
Great experience with Julian and his team. Enjoyed the 3 nights we did the Aurora viewing with the 2nd night the best. Cold temps but we were well catered for! Also did the snowmobile tour which was a great experience. Highly recommend using these guys!

        Aurora hunting!
What an adventure! We did 2 nights in a row to play all our chances to see the Aurora and, under the guidance of Roland and Katy, we managed to see the aurora both nights. But what stands out of all the experience is the uncertainty of the chasing the aurora. Roland and Katy both night made all the effort possible in order to find the best spots and the best conditions (they managed to find clear skies even on a cloudy night) to catch a glimpse of the Aurora. We'll keep this experience in our heart! Ciao e grazie from Italy!

        Great time had by all
Highly recommend this tour and operator- could not have had a better experience and nicer guide. The tour is fun and takes you across lakes and through the woods. The tour is private so the speed is catered to the group and evereyone was comforatble with the pace and had a blast.

Awesome ride for a glorious day!!!
I went out on this ride solo and together there’s a family of three. Julian was our guide, he kept the orientation short and clear, reminding us again and again to follow his lead and don’t go off the trail and we would have a great time. It was a glorious day to ride on the lake and through the forest trails. It was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had; The sun sipping in between the branches and with a small turn, you entered this open snowy land gilded with gold, with the moon on the other end of the sky, it was just amazing. On the way Julian stopped and pointed out food prints of the wolves and fox, also he kept looking over his shoulder to make sure we were all doing fine. When he felt like we’ve got the hang of it he also let us go faster on the road, I think I can speak for both me and the 8 years old boy that we had a blast!!! If you want to experience snowy land in a fun, exciting way! I definitely recommend you give this a try!!!!! Ps the heated hand holder was a biiiig bonus , I was warm and comfy through the whole ride.

        Amazing Aurora Borealis experience
This review is for the overall experience that is JULIAN. I am rewriting my review after giving it thought because I totally understand now the situation while we were visiting. I will start by saying this company offers the most competitive rates and the concept of aurora chasing has been perfected by Julian. He is all encompassing/ the scheduler, accountant, driver, conceptualizer, aurora chaser, hot chocolate maker ( although he does outsource the cookies and does not offer clam chowder), photographer, activity drop off person. I think he is sincere and scientific in his efforts of aurora chasing and the dog sledding ( the puppies at the kennel were adorable) and ice fishing activities were pretty good. I would end by saying - if ( the big if) everything works out- this is an awesome experience and hopefully Julian gets some help to smooth things out but his personality makes up for the little bumps in the road. Definitely give Julian a try because he has a very personalized and experienced approach to aurora chasing. Including some pics from the tour- the little tent on the lake offered the perfect backdrop for a level 6 aurora on our trip. His dad is pretty awesome too!

        Unprofessional and unpleasant
We did the aurora tour (separate review for that) and this snowmobile experience with Julian. He is friendly when you meet him. BUT! Don’t do anything to piss him off. He becomes incredibly unprofessional. It was just the three of us on this tour. Unfortunately, my friend’s snowmobile flipped while we were riding thru a narrow trail. Now, everything is completely covered in snow so there are places where PILES of snow will cover edges of the trail that dip. One of her skis must have gone over the ledge and she flipped. Boy, did that piss him off! We even helped him get the snowmobile propped back up and it rode fine. No thanks or anything. He basically said he’s ending the tour but he’d give us a second chance so we could ride back (like, wow thanks. Not sure what other options you would have had. Pretty sure he would have love to just leave us there). And he LITERALLY did not say one word back on the ride back or the car ride back to the hotel. Not ONE. Now, I get being upset at seeing your expensive equipment turned over in the snow and possibly damaged. But you have a business, we supported your business, and sh*t happens. This probably wasn’t the first time and likely won’t be the last. My friend was not being reckless, she is very cautious and was driving very slowly. This was an accident. He didn’t give us much instruction at the start and while it’s not difficult to drive (it’s just one gas button), the steering CAN be hard for some (my arms were getting tired) and for the short folks, I’d HIGHLY recommend standing while riding so you can see above the dirty screen and thus see the terrain your snowmobile is about to go over. I’ve fallen on motorcycles before: it’s super traumatic. You feel bad and embarrassed. Fortunately, my instructors have been kind and gracious about it because, again, things like this just happen. But Julian basically did not give an ounce of concern for my friend’s safety or our experience. Laughably, at the start he said “this is your tour, make it your own”. But as soon as I drove a few inches to his right, he scolded me to stay behind him. What the heck?! We paid a lot of money to be here and be on this tour and I don’t expect the tour guide to act like a jerk and ruin my experience. Very awkward, very unprofessional. Plenty of other snowmobile companies here, do NOT recommend this one especially if you don’t know how to handle a snowmobile.

        Breathtaking! Must do!
The entire experience was just awesome. Take this tour and you get to experience something special! I was supposed to take a tour by another company but got left behind. And this tour arrived at my hotel’s lobby. The guide, Julian was so kind enough to let me join his tour last minute. We were so lucky to be able to see the aurora and some wildlife. Really appreciate his efforts and generosity so that we could spot breathtaking auroras.

A Great Adventure in the Far North
We booked the Northern Lights Experience, which included airport pickup, 2 nights hotel, and two nights aurora viewing. Everything was wonderful. Julian was organized and response pre-trip. During our visit, we saw the lights really well on the first night. Julian's passion for the aurora really added to the experience, and he sent us photos afterwards. We highly recommend this company.

The first time that I'm writing a review because I'm so disappointed and frustrated. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Here is my story of my Aurora tour on the 18.12.2019.

We (me and my partner) wanted to book the Aurora tour quite shortly (same day). We communicated throughout the day with the company (per mail) and mentioned from the beginning that we have no gear and would like to book the tour in the evening. The communication was split into few messages, with replies every 3-5 hours. Half an hour before the pickup we were asked to pay, what gear size we need and were told that we will be picked up soon. Two guides picked us up and told us we will get the gear shortly. They drove us with an unheated bus to the location at the lake. We were already freezing in the bus, since we only put on the jeans and "normal" Winter jackets, because we expected to get gear and getting dropped of in front of the house again.
When we finally arrived somewhat freezing we were told to go to the tent near the lake, which was another 2 minutes walk in jeans at -41°! At the tent we finally caught someone of the organizers and were told that our gear will arrive with the next bus. So we were standing in the tent in the middle of nowhere without any proper gear, and the fire just about to be started and -41°C outside. At some point we warmed up but we couldn't really see/enjoy the aurora because we had to stay in the tent. At around 1:00 am we finally got the gear but then there was no aurora anymore and we had to wait until 4:00 am to finally get back to our place where we stayed. We were really cold and disappointed.

Afterwards we were told that this was our mistake that we booked to shortly. But in my opinion it's their responsibility to reject the booking if they cannot fulfill the requsts on time.

-This is not aurora hunting, so you are staying at the tent, which has fireplace but not so warm so that you need to dress warm.:)
-You are expected to pay $10 each for tip.
-They gave me some cookies and hot chocolate/tea, sweet potatoes.

This tour was little cheaper than other tours I took.:)

I don't usually leave a review, but for this tour I must.

Definitely the best experience our family had among various spots visited worldwide - the jaw dropping beautiful dancing lights, but even more, how Julian made us feel comfortable and how he successfully managed to find the best locations to make our nights unforgettable. Even on a cloudy night, Julian was able to find a spot with magnificent viewing.

We were very impressed wih Julian's eagerness to make everyone's expectations fulfilled. Even on a showering night at 3:30 A.M. (to me the chances of viewing was close to zero), he failed to give up the tour and asked us to continue on! It was the guests who asked Julian to take us back to the hotel.

I've noted some negative reviews written several years back, but it seems as though those guides are no longer present.

I would undoubtedly recommed this tour and have already recommended Julian to all those I care for and love.

We booked a three night package with Julian. Due to weather conditions we didn’t see the Aurora the first two nights but that certainly was not for lack of trying by Julian. He drove for hours trying to find the Aurora. On our third night Julian wanted to take advantage of the clear skies so he messaged everyone to let us know we would be leaving a bit earlier. Unfortunately, two of the guests didn’t see his (multiple) messages and didn’t get on the bus at pick up. Everyone else did though and it ended up being the most magical night. We saw the Aurora on three separate occasions and the second time was exclusively due to Julian acting quickly on his instincts. Julian also took us out to his tent on a frozen lake where he kept a fire going for hours and served us hot chocolate and cookies. It was an absolutely beautiful location. He took photos for everyone as many times as we wanted. Julian makes seeing the Aurora his priority and it shows. He was responsive by text throughout the entire trip and was just extremely helpful and attentive. I could not recommend him enough.

I loved being part of this tour. It has all the necessities, a bus to take you there, snaks, warm tents and fire pits, photo taking, and very importantly welcoming tour guides.

The only drawback was that I had waited quite a while to be picked up so I think they should improve on that part.

What an excellent experience with Northern Lights Tour Co. My friend and I went for 3 nights and we saw aurora for all of them—each night was in a different location based on weather, which kept the nights fresh and exciting.

On top of seeing a Level 6 aurora on the second night, the highlight of this tour consisted of three things:

      1. The party bus (heated school bus) that was reminiscent of my elementary school days.

      2. Hot chocolate and macadamia nut cookies that fuelled us throughout the night

      3. Best for last, our wonderful tour guide Julian who not only rocked peak fashion every night (fan art attached), but tried his utmost best to help the tour group see aurora

Because this tour is on a bus, Julian was able to drive us to clear patches in the sky to view aurora. Pick up time changed depending on the weather, which was appreciated since we only got a great light show because the time was moved ahead!

We stayed a bit further out at a BnB (not one of the main hotels) and it was nice that we were able to be picked up - other tours we went on would not pick up at BnB.

Overall, highly recommend this company. Thanks, Julian! We had a good time. :)

I cannot recommend Julian and this tour enough. My group and I were in Yellowknife for 3 nights. The first night, we caught a small glimpse of the Aurora but wanted more. On the second night Julian, drove us around for 8 hours trying to find the lights. Julian knew the weather the final night was supposed to be cloudy, and went above and beyond to get us that experience. In the end, the Aurora didn’t show the second night either, so Julian rearranged his schedule so he could take us out early on our third and final night and we ended up seeing incredible auroras. Julian is extremely knowledgeable and knew exactly where to bring us. He also organized other excursions for us during the day, and was so kind and a pleasure to be around. Book his tours, you won’t regret it!

Thank you Julian for a wonderful night out of Aurora viewing. Julian's enthusiasm was amazing. Fortunately, we hit a home run on March 17th. As we were in the process of picking up all participants, Julian's Aurora alert app started indicating that the Northern Lights would be very active and we went straight out of town to a great viewing area on the frozen Pontoon Lake. The lights strengthened while we were there and were dancing before we left.

We were with Julian for 3 nights and were rewarded with a spectacular show of Aurora on our last night! He took tons of amazing photos of us and sent them on promptly on our last day. He made us hot chocolate (hello, childhood nostalgia) and provided snacks for the bus rides chasing Aurora. We also got to experience a wood fire oven heated tent on a frozen lake that was breathtaking. I had forgotten that anywhere in the world could be quite that serene.

Truly the experience of a lifetime. Go on this tour!

We have joined so many tour trips and Julian is the best of the best. The way he treats the group he aims to fulfil each one’s expectation. Our first Northern Lights Tour was so cloudy that we travelled east and west to chase the Aurora. We did see it that night no matter how difficult. But one amazing thing that showed how compassionate Julian is, our companion dropped her cellphone in our last stop and even there was no sure spot to go back to he still took the chance. His effort was rewarded, the cellphone was there lying on the road. For sure he is one in a million to do this.
We were specially served with hot chocolate or tea, he takes a lot of pictures using his camera, of all, individual, by group and don’t charge anything at all. Some tour groups does but not Julian. He don’t demand mandatory tip, but because he doesn’t ask for it, we gave as we believe he definitely deserve it. His customer service is beyond and above. I have already mentioned Northern Lights Tour by Julian in my Facebook page, informed my friends and will continue to pass on a very good review, not only for julian’s sake but for all of them so they will experience what good tour guides can make a difference to one’s trip.
