Make your way to the Visitor Centre in Alberni Valley for a 9am or 2pm departure, and follow the trip leader to a base camp that’s 10 minutes away. Get fitted with helmets and riding gloves, then start with a short briefing on 4WD safety and equipment, and practice driving the Polaris RZR Side-By-Side 4-Seater.
Hit the road on the back side of Sproat Lake, following the shoreline for roughly 7.5 miles (12 kilometers), then turn upslope to climb 1,300 feet (396 meters) to a panoramic viewpoint that looks over the Nahmint Valley, Mount Klitsa, Gracie Lake, and Sproat Lake.
Continue to the Upper Nahmint River Bridge, where you might spot some summer steelhead in the water, and watch for deer, black bear, bald eagles, and the Roosevelt elk that thrive in the Nahmint Valley’s thick forests—these native elk are the largest species of elk in the world. Drive to another viewpoint on Mount Nahmint, where you'll have great views of French Falls and the enormous landslides that swept down the valley walls. Break for snacks and water at Mount Nahmint, then begin the return trip out of Nahmint Valley, passing enormous, old growth trees in the Nahmint Lake Provincial Recreation Site along the way.
This 4-hour 4WD tour concludes at the original departure point.
