About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Passport7353360 contributionsParty boat. Expect heavy alcohol. Not relaxing.Guests started drinking heavily at 10AM, encouraged & served by crew. They were loud and lewd. Not family friendly, and not matching the relaxing description. Music was loud and vulgar, even with minors on board. Crew disregarded and ignored requests to change music and keep volume at a reasonable level. The snorkeling itself was beautiful, nice locations and pretty marine life.Written 29 December 2024
- G8933RYdavidw0 contributionsGreat Tour of the island and some fun at Playa de Uvas for lunch and fun snorkeling. Staff was wonderfully accommodatingCozumel is a beautiful island with a rich island culture, and our tour of the island in an open-air buggy was an incredible experience. Pablo and Noah were incredibly accommodating and ensured that we saw only the sights that truly interested us. Everyone we encountered was exceptionally friendly and welcoming, making our trip truly memorable. You won’t go wrong choosing this tour!Written 1 December 2024
- AnaLondon0 contributionsEasy straightforward booking perfect snorkel tourI looked into the tour via their website and then contacted them via WhatsApp in the morning upon waking up at 8am. An hour later I was booked in. The communication was excellent and the booking process so quick and smooth (they provided many options and suggestions on timings and tours available etc). The reservation form listed Arturo Diaz so he he did an excellent job. The booking started with a small down payment online and the balance paid in cash in MXN pesos upon meeting him later that morning. It was our first time to snorkel for myself and 14 year old son and so the 4hr turtle sanctuary snorkel tour listed in their website was recommended. It covered a snorkel in the reef, snorkel seeing a turtle, El Cielo, and el Cielito. The agent met us in the port area as soon as our ferry arrived to Cozumel port. Upon meeting us he walked us over to a little boat nearby and handed us over to a third party, maybe Cozumel Snorkel Center perhaps? In any event they were professional, fun to be with and the captain and guide knew well their boat and the ocean. All in all it was 7 of us in the group, a good number as not too big but not too small either. It was good value as it was approx USD 70 x 2 for the 4 hour tour, this did not include our ferry tickets but it did include a lovely snack of fruit, ceviche, guacamole and drinks. We loved it from beginning to end (12pm to 4pm). Thank you!!!Written 3 November 2024
- kristinakF5628GN0 contributionsHighlight of Our Trip!WOW! Do not skip out on this one, my friends and I booked a guide our first day in Mexico in the spur of the moment and it ended up being the highlight of our trip! Our guides Juan, Santiago, and a few more were so kind, helpful, and hilarious! They provided ice-cold beer, water, and juice and had us laughing the whole time. This was our very first time snorkeling and they made it very simple and we all felt so safe! One of my friends isn't a strong swimmer and had a slight fear of water, but our guides made her feel so comfortable and she ended up having a blast saying she needs to do it again! we were so grateful for this experience and so happy we chose them! Thank you!!Written 29 January 2024
- J1690MJbrandong0 contributionsAccurate description of boat?I booked the "glass bottom boat" snorkeling tour on "Cubana" in Cozumel as an Airbnb experience. I was disappointed when I saw that the boat did not have a glass bottom, but only a small window in the middle of the boat. To see anything, you had to go to the middle of the boat to look over a partition into the window. I expressed my dissatisfaction with the tour operator and requested a refund. They declined the refund, and they advised me to "investigate more thoroughly before booking" next time.Written 27 December 2023

- tedact0 contributionsShould be ranked number 1We did a private tour with them 6 years ago. I have now written over 2700 reviews, travelled extensively, and this is my favorite tour operator! I reached out to Arturo (the owner). He remembered us and was able to set up a tour with short notice for us. We booked a last minute cruise 2 days prior to it's sailing. It was incredibly easy to find from the cruise port. Arturo met us and introduced us to Xavier (Shabby). He was our guide for the day. It was great to have a private, safe, affordable tour for 2. He had a large passenger van with complementary drinks. We asked for a local tour and he took us to some of the best hidden gems. We loved the local market to eat and shop. We saw no other cruise guests at our stops (exactly what we wanted, to be local, no crowds). Since our last visit they have opened up their glass bottom boat tours, AMAZING!. Arturo is immediate to respond and is fabulous at customizing a tour for you that is very affordable. We were able to be flexible with our day with Shabby and extend our day of fun. He also took us to an amazing little local jewelry maker who made his own black coral jewelry. Pride in safety, cleanliness, affordability, quality and fun is clear with Safe Tours Cozumel.Written 23 February 2023

- rebeccapC3983CG0 contributionsExcellente tour!My friends and I had a last minute change of plans and were lucky enough to find Braulio! After giving us a nice tour of town (with lots of photo opportunities!) we were lead to a resort where the boat met us at the doc. We were offered yummy drinks and everyone was extremely kind, especially after one of my friends got seasick. The fish were amazing, and it was great to see the natural and artificial reefs, one spot even had little jellyfish! Overall, it was a fantastic experience :)Written 21 November 2022
- renatevddonk920 contributionsA perfect way to explore Cozumel! We had a great time during the private 5-hour island tour with Safe Tours Cozumel. It's the perfect way to explore the island! We really got helped by Arturo to book the trip exactly how we wanted, thanks to him we even could enjoy our trip on the same day we booked. He gave us all the information we needed and even picked us op personally at the pier. Our local guide Xavi was very nice, caring and had a lot of knowledge. Thanks to him we discovered some of the most beautiful spots on the island, enjoyed some time at a lovely beachclub (which was also a great place to do some snorkling) and learned a lot about the history of the island and the people. I really would recommend Safe Tours to everyone who likes to discover Cozumel!Written 29 July 2022

- CS12280 contributionsDon't understand the positive reviews - worst snorkel tourWe got a bit of a bait and switch. We ended up on a tour with Sharks Adventure through Safe Tours. The pig piled too many people on a small boat. The tour guides were not cheery, they didn't make it a good time like your guides usually do. We had to put all our things up top and give our shoes only to get them back on the dock after the tour after. It was very strange. We didn't go to Palancar, Columbia, and El Cielo like we were supposed to. Only palancar and El Cielo. We left pretty late. I've never had a bad experience on a snorkel tour and this one was just not great.Written 24 April 2022

The meeting place is a very short walk from the Royal Caribbean port. Which is one of the reasons we chose this company.
The guides were friendly. One stayed in the water the entire time. We went as a family with ages ranging from 9- adult. The kids had never been snorkeling before and everyone felt safe. There were fins and life vests that you could use. The snorkels are cheap plastic ones that you get to keep as a souvenir. So if you prefer a nicer set, then bring your own. They offered plenty of water and soda.
Our family had a great time. The only thing that was a little disappointing (having snorkeled in different areas before) was there wasn’t a lot of variety of fish in the areas that they took us. Thank goodness they fed the fish to bring them up closer and in more abundance- that really helped. The kids enjoyed it and it was the perfect amount of time for beginners. The reefs were very close so there wasn’t a lot of time spent getting to the 3 stops. I felt they allowed sufficient time in the water. If you have experience snorkeling- you might want to try a different reef.

Hello 379heathl,
We appreciate you taking the time to write a detailed recommendation of our snorkelling boat tour. We specialise in family snorkelling together, creating fun and healthy moments . From grandparents to babies, families have been able to enjoy their time together on Cubana. Safely is a priority, so extra assistance and instructions are given to beginners to learn a new skill so they can enjoy the experience as a group. I departure point is next door to the international cruise ship pier. Perfect for those short on time, this 2 hour tour wants to give maximum time in the water so the reefs we visit as close to limit the travel time from reef to reef.
Best Regards
Arturo Díaz

The guides, Julian and Miguel, were skilled divers and comedians. Their hilarious introductory remarks helped to loosen up some of the first-time snorkelers who were a bit anxious. They took us to three reefs which were a various points along the beaches of San Miguel, the one city on Cozumel. The water was 6-9 feet deep, deeper than the water outside the hotels, and there was a greater variety of fish. Our guides knew the names of each fish species we saw. They released bread crumbs, causing the fish to swarm around us. They were also very safety conscious; they gave very clear and precise instructions, and swam with us, keeping a watchful eye over everything we did. I will also mention that Arturo Díaz, the fellow who runs Safe Tours Cozumel, was very helpful, and called us in the US prior to our trip in order to answer our questions. My wife, who does not swim, also enjoyed the trip, and looked at fish through the rather small but nonetheless helpful glass window (I think that "glass-bottom boat" is overstating the case just a bit.) The price of $30 is very reasonable, but you you should plan to tip the guides because apparently they work for tips and they do a heck of a job.

I’ve been to Cozumel multiple times for a family vacation prior to the pandemic, and have done a numerous snorkeling tours+. In Aug. 2021, I took my family again to Cozumel, and this tour by Safe Tour Cozumel was by far the best! I started out a communication with the owner Arturo over emails and phone calls (very effectively) before my trip to compare their services/prices with others. Arturo was unrealistically the most responsive person who does not have a middleman to overcharge anything. The entire crew Captain (Carlos), Guide (Braulio), and Photographer (David) on the boat was “amazing” and was willing to assist us through the entire trip reliably and friendly. You would not be able to find anyone else offering any better qualify of service compared to SafeTourCozumel. Don’t bother with any other companies—Arturo will give you the best of all!

We had a great time with Julian and Captain Carlos. We went to 3 different locations for snorkeling and had enough time at each place to enjoy everything. We booked at a local tour guide and paid $40 vice the $30 if you pay in advance. I recommend paying in advance. The location is in walking distance from the ship. You never get to far from the port so you are never worried about getting back to the ship. Julian was nice and enjoys his job. The tour was 2 hours long, but we were out there for about 2 1/2 hours, which is always a bonus. The next time we go to Cozumel, we'd book this again, you never know what you're going to see in the water.

We had a fantastic time on this excursion. Julian and the crew gave us their undivided attention. He pointed out items of interest, brought sea life up to the surface for us to view, then placed it gently back where he had found it. My sister is not a strong swimmer and was struggling with her mask. Julian fixed the problem and always made sure she was doing OK. We saw wonderful things and had many laughs. We all thought it was the best excursion we have experienced to date. I would not hesitate to recommend this company.

This was a great experience. We walked to the dock from the Port - 1 block away. We were taken to the boat (behind the hotel on the water) and treated to water, soft drinks, and beer if we wanted it. Santiago, our snorkel guide, took us to an artificial reef and then to a natural reef. He did a great job of pointing out some pretty well camouflaged flounder and rays as well as educating us about the island and the state of the reefs. We saw a ton of fish, coral, etc. The pace was perfect - we didn't feel rushed. I would definitely recommend.

Julian, Santiago and the rest of the crew were awesome! They were knowledgeable, funny and kept us laughing. It was my friends first time snorkeling and they made her feel safe. She had a great time and was excited about all the fish she saw and the conservation efforts that were being made. We booked a 2 hour tour for $30 each which was half the price as the resort was charging. We met at El CID in town and were allowed to park in their lot. Easy to book, great price, easy to meet up and a great time. Will definitely use this company again!

This was amazing! This snorkeling tour was incredibly fun. We got to snorkel 3 reefs: 2 shallow and 1 deep one! The guides were so helpful with the gear and pointing out all of the unique animals underwater. He even dove down & pointed out an eel!
It was an incredible time. I recommend to people who are relatively strong swimmers and don’t get motion sick too easily; that boat was rockin’.

This was such a fun, snorkeling trip! The crew was very knowledgeable and professional, took us to the best places, and understood very well. The areas we were in.
They even helped my husband find his phone when he lost it at the bottom of the ocean! It was so above and beyond what we would’ve expected and we’re so grateful

My husband and I wanted to go snorkeling, but didn't want to spend the entire day out on the water, so when we saw this 2 hour snorkeling excursion, we jumped on it immediately - and we were not disappointed! When we arrived at the meeting spot, we were told that we were the only ones who booked the experience, but that they would honor our reservation. Right before we left the dock, we were joined by two other people who were also looking for a similar experience. The boat crew were really nice and helpful! We were taken to 3 separate locations and enjoyed plenty of snorkeling time at each location! We were then treated to a post-snorkel beer, which capped off the excursion perfectly! We would absolutely recommend this to anyone who wants to go snorkeling but is either limited on time or doesn't want to spend the whole day out on the water!
