About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- joegO5446BK0 contributionsHighly recommended for people that prefer visiting at their own paceFirst, cudos to them for being very clear on it is, what it does, and what one needs to do to enjoy the experience. Everything was well explained and straightforward. I did experience so small hiccups along the way, like not being able to see what the narrator was referring to but overall it was a great experience. Especially seeing other people that didn't get a guide and were walking in all directions, I felt in control. The information given was also very detailed and interesting.Written 15 February 2025
- zoliswan20190 contributionsI'd recommend this for those who don't want to feel rushedThis is an excellent option as you can go at your own pace. Since it tracks your location, the narration keeps quiet and lets you go off-route and stay as long as you want at different spots. It starts with the narration when you return to the route. People who went with guides felt rushed through the tour because the human guide wanted to be done and get back to the start to meet other groups.Written 14 February 2024
- chrislH3097GQ0 contributionsGreat site, inadequate audio guideThe Coba ruins are definitely worth a short day trip from Tulum, especially if you add on a visit to the nearby cenotes. This Walk with Action audio guide is no substitute for a real tour guide, though. Summaries were brief and sometimes inaccurate and the mapping function was imprecise in closely spaced sites in the ruins. I’d recommend paying for a human guide instead or, if you don’t want to pay for that, save your $10 and make a donation to the site.Written 12 February 2024
- Christa T0 contributionsTimeless JourneyI enjoyed how it provided me with stories while walking. The self-guided tour enabled me to spend more time at Ek Balam. You can fully immerse yourself in Mayan history, discover majestic pyramids, and uncover fascinating tales at your own leisure. Allow the audio guide to transport you to a time of mystery. Highly recommend!!!Written 18 July 2023

- johnhH31GO0 contributionsTulum Ruins Audio GuideThe Tulum guided tour was an enchanting experience. It effortlessly combined history, culture, and natural beauty into a captivating journey. The informative narration brought the ancient Mayan ruins to life, while the inclusion of stunning coastal views made it even more memorable. This tour is a must-do for anyone visiting Tulum!!!Written 17 July 2023
- 962nicolaw0 contributionsThis app was a great find!I highly recommend this app! In my opinion, this is the best way to explore the Tulum ruins. The app gives you a good introduction to Mayan history and culture before and after encounter with the Spanish, and gives you details about each spot in the ruins. The audio description pops up as you approach the next stop on the map. If it doesn’t, it’s easy to pull up the map and see where you are then click on the appropriate description. Allows you to explore at your own pace at a great price!Written 14 March 2023
- OreoluwaA30 contributionsExcellent Self-Guided Tour of Tulum RuinsThis self-guided tour was a great find! While there are several live tours one can book, this option gives you flexibility to tour at your own pace and provides a wealth of background information. It was reasonably priced, a relatively quick download, available to follow offline and easy to follow. I was pleased with the service and highly recommend it! Thank you!Written 12 March 2023
- pennyhJ934ZN0 contributionsNot greatThe program did not work well for me, possibly because the location feature on my phone was not enabled. It kept going back and starting the section it had just finished, several times. I gave up and just walked around and read the signs. In the future, I would not pay for the program but just walk around and read the signs. The Tulum ruins were very interesting and well worth visiting.Written 3 March 2023
- rbcanada0 contributionsWorth the priceAction Tour Guide app for walking the Tulum ruins is money well spent. The ruins are relatively small and can be walked quickly, but using the maps helps you take the time, enjoy the beauty, and gain an understanding of what you are experiencing. We enjoyed the 30 stops and felt we were getting better information than some of the guided tours we crossed paths with at many of the key sites. The app downloaded quickly and the map worked perfectly to place us in the right spots to enjoy the commentary. Some of the bad reviews are just silly as they complain that it is not an entrance ticket to the site. It is not. It is not presented to be such. Read what you are buying. It is your guide only and a pretty enjoyable one. We'll worth your $10. Nice work people.Written 16 January 2023
- IrisAmbu0 contributionsDO NOT BUY, NOT VALID AT GATEThis purchase was a waste of money as they did NOT accept the barcode. Only QR is accepted. We had to buy tickets AGAIN with exact change at the gate. The gatekeeper said this happens often, so PLEASE just take exact change (90 pesos) and buy them there!Written 14 January 2023
- Aaron C0 contributionsMore disappointed than notThe information in the recordings was great. The geolocation not so much. The recording rarely provided directions of where to go next. We spent a good amount of time wandering aimlessly and lost between recordings and ended up missing a lot because of the lack of direction. Definitely didn’t replace hiring an actual guide.Written 2 November 2022
- Raphael A0 contributionsWell worth the money! This was the best seven dollars I ever spent. My advice is to arrive early when it opens initially. They do not take American dollars or credit cards at the front desk but you can purchase a ticket at a vending machine with a credit card right there by the front entrance. The self guided walking tour using this narration can be as short or as long as you would like. I gleaned some extremely helpful information and didn’t have to stand in a crowd. Magically quietWritten 26 September 2022
- Mxpaolo0 contributionsGreat scenery10 dollars approx to enter the drive and friendly guy in the gates who provides map and instructions. There was a mist during our visit but creates an atmosphere and the coastline and scenery is amazing. Some parts closed yesterday to seal pup season and we was not told this. The lone Cyprus was the busiest part on the drive. Great for sight seeing took us about 1 hour but depends how many stops you wish to makeWritten 5 May 2022
- devinh9760 contributionsRuins themselves are spectacularThe ruins themselves are amazing. But this $6.99 online ticket is a scam. You buy the ticket online, but are denied admission to the park unless you first go by the souvenir shop so they can try to sell you something while you pick up your ONLINE ticket. Save your money and buy the ticket at the gate unless you want to have to go to the souvenir shopWritten 11 March 2022

My husband downloaded the narration on his phone and we shared headphones. It was super easy to follow, the voice was clear and quite emotive making the content interesting to hear. There was background music and also loads of additional information to paint a picture of what it must have been like there.
Very happy with our decision to not go with a tour guide. This option gave us the freedom to walk around at our own pace and also re-listen to certain facts if we needed.
I'd suggest launching the app and looking at the map right at the gate (after tickets etc.) to orient yourself and get acclimated to the map/app. As mentioned in the description, the app does automatically start talking depending on where you are on the grounds/as you approach a site.

Thank you so much for your feedback, Tina! That flexibility to move at your own pace is one of the best features of my self-guided tours. I’m delighted that my tour of Chichen Itza added to your learning and that you enjoyed it. I also have the Mayan Ruins of Mexico Self-Guided Walking Tour Bundle for other parks, scenic drives, cities, and historic sites in the US — hopefully, you’ll get the chance to try them next time! Also, to remind you, the tour you bought is yours for one year. So, you can listen to it at home or on your next visit.

Ok, so let’s cut to the chase. If you don’t like the tedium of a guide and a guide droning on and obsessing about obscure facts, then this self-guided tour is for you because you can turn your guide on and off and just keep to the bits you are interested in. Also Chichen Itzá is a sprawling site with a few detours and side alleys. This tour keeps you on track to see everything you need to see. It is of course also a lot cheaper than a regular guide. So yes it is worth it. The app needs, however, I think more work. We followed all the instructions. Downloaded the app before entering the site and loaded the requisite information for this tour. We turned off our mobile data as suggested but found that the gps navigation, tracking and prompting mostly did not track a path accurately around the site and sometimes we found ourselves wondering blindly between paths. When we turned data back on, it seemed to work a little better and we could pick out features but it was still inaccurate. You really need to use it in tandem with a map of the site. Nonetheless, we thought it was better having the app rather than not having it - just needs more work.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the Chichen Itza Self-Guided Tour. I am glad you found the tour flexible and cost-effective. However, I understand that you faced issues with GPS tracking and navigation. This seems unusual and might be specific to the device you were using. I would appreciate it if you could contact us with more details so that we can improve the app. Your feedback is crucial for us to enhance the experience for all users.

Amazing and relaxing way to experience the incredible Mayan ruins in your own pace. Great pricepoint, easy to use app and great facts about the sights. The audioguides are GPS-linked and starts automatically when you are in the rigtht spot (you can also start the manually). Only negative was that a new speak would sometimes start in the middle of another speak (Especilly a problem on the walk to/from the cenote). Could also have done with a map and some pictures, as it was sometimes hard to find the right spots, but we managed :) All in all a very nice experience!

Interesting audio information which allows you to do the site without a tour guide. After reading other reviews I was worried it wouldn't work but it works perfectly. The negative reviews are obviously from people who didn't read what they are buying. It's not tickets for the site, it's an audio guide which you download and then you can walk around by yourself. It worked perfectly. It's especially good that you can listen to it before you go and afterwards as well just to make sure you get all the information.

This was a wonderful guide, with just the right amount of info. It was also a very pleasant listening experience, well-paced, with a little mood music at times, and with a wonderful narrator. As others had suggested, we listened ahead of time on the drive to Chichen Itza then listened again during the tour, to soak up more information. (And a bonus of doing an audio tour at all was less hassling from the many vendors at the site!)
There were just a couple glitches that could have made the listening experience completely perfect. It was often hard to figure out where we were supposed to be on the tour, because only some of the time was there clear instruction on where to walk next. The numbers on the map view weren't in an order that was very intuitive to follow in the list of tour stops. I think some improvement could be made here, maybe drawing the map so that it's clear what order to walk around in? My app also kept stopping and starting, which made me lose my place, and the bright sun made it hard to read the screen and find it again.
All that said, though, this was a wonderful tour. I would do it again, and I highly recommend it!

Loved it - really informative and thought the tour came more and more into its own, particularly towards the end. Informative without overloading you with information, sometimes skipped ahead to new dialogues if you moved too quickly but otherwise a perfect app. Recommended!

Look, Chichen Itza is amazing. Prepare for heat that is hot enough to render your smartphone downloaded with the walking guide useless. While my phone did work, the app struggled with locating me on site and the directions from one point to another were not clear. App could be updated with tips such as, "turn right onto the path overloaded with merchants in 150 ft"
Probably an amazing app if your phone can function that day.

Sounds like the Yucatan heat gave your phone a workout! We apologize for the app's struggles. IPhones need iOS 13 or later to ensure the app runs smoothly, and Android devices need version 9 or higher. Also, an update with more precise directions is coming soon!

Me and the wife took this tour while visiting Mexico. Highly recommend! So much information at a great price and the best part is you can go at your own pace. We were able to follow the check points easily and the app knew when to move on to the next topic.

The positive: It sure beats the pesky (and $$) tour guides with their lame jokes and worn out stories. The app tour narrated details we would not have figured out ourselves. The download was fairly easy. The tour narration is nicely done, with deeper dives for some of the locations.
The negative: The location accuracy leaves much to be desired - real life and app location map never matched up. Also, the narration of a previous point of interest stops when the app thinks you arrive at the next POI. All in all, it was OK to have and better than nothing but not a total delight.
Takeaway: worth it if you don’t want a tour, don’t have your own guide book, and want some details to help with your visit. Put your navigator hat on though.

Can I change my travel date once I book the tour?

How much time it will take for a walking tour and do I need to make 1 reservation for 2 people?
Written 13 May 2021
This would take 1-2 hours, based on how long you choose to linger in one spot or the other. You can even break it into multiple days or take the same tour more than once.
It all depends on who is willing to share! (And who has good hearing). Since this is a walking tour, the safest option is to book one for each person that way everyone can listen at their preferred volume and walk at their own pace.

If I take this self-guided tour of Chichen Itza, I have to buy tickets into the site separately right? Can I buy both at once?
Written 4 December 2020
Yes, you have to buy the entrance ticket separately. This is just the tour through Chichen Itza. Unfortunately we don’t sell a combo tour + entrance ticket!
