About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Savannah Jane D0 contributionsFriendly, flexible, customizedWe had an awesome time on our tour! It was great to have a personal guide who would go at our pace as a multigenerational family group. He shared interesting history along the tour and funny jokes on the car ride. We had a choice of what we wanted to see and how long we wanted to stay, and we could slow things down when some of our party needed to. It was so helpful to have our ride just waiting when we were ready to move on to the next sites - and we went places I couldn’t find on any other tour package! Thank you, Nefi, for a wonderful experience!Written 19 February 2025
- jhalleran0 contributionsChichen itza tour to useThis was a great private trip experience. The ride was relaxing and comfortable. We beat the crowds in the morning to chichen itza. Gabrielle our guide was very knowledgeable about the Mayan history and walked us around the site. The cenote was really nice too! We were back at our hotel with day to spare. Overall much better experience than I can imagine on one of the huge tour busses all day.Written 18 February 2025
- kate h0 contributionsBrilliant timeBrilliant experience. Picked us up from the hotel on time at 6am and from start to finish couldnt have asked for more. The drive there included a stop for takeout coffee/breakfast, Valladolid, and we arrived well before the main crowds. Something that wouldnt have happened with standard tours. Enriziki (Sorry I wont have spelt this right) was hugely knowledgeable and spent time advising on history with passion and energy. We also had free time to wander round as much as we wanted. The trip to the cenote after was great and then on the drive home my husband got a local beer with chilli in which was a great last minute touch. We chose this tour because I having come all this way from the UK we wanted something memorable. I didnt want to get a big coach tour and spend half my time doing pick ups or find myself only having an hour at chichen itza and no flexibility. Yes a private tour is slightly more expensive but chances are you're only going to do this once so in our book was so worth it.Written 23 December 2024
- SimoneT6210 contributionsExcellent and honest serviceWe had Nefi as our tour guide. He was right on time to pick us up. We are a group of 5 people with a toddler and a kid under 10. He was wonderful in speaking to them and was very patient and answered them to every question they had. He explained us well and gave precise information about chichen itza. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for tour.Written 7 December 2024
- alan_meyrick0 contributionsGabriel is excellentBrilliant communication to arrange the tour at short notice. Pick up from hotel without any issue. Comfortable 7 seat van with excellent (needed) air con. Gabriel our guide was brilliant, very communicative and knowledgeable. Enjoyed our tourWritten 31 August 2024
- deniz198010 contributionsGreat dayWe could design our own tour and select the places that we wanted to in our wished timeframe. It was very convinient and our driver Jonathan was very helpful and kind. We strongly recommend this company for people who want to design their tour.Written 13 August 2024
- A2791LZbarbm0 contributionsMake Your Own Tour was the Best Day Spent in Cancun AreaWe had the best day ever with Gabriel! We went to Chichen Itza, Ek Balam, tequila tasting, and a cenote. It was a long, beautiful tour with the most knowledgeable, interesting, and engaging guide, Gabriel. I can't recommend him enough. Make Your Own Tour is exactly that - we were able to choose where to go and Gabriel did a great job of timing everything perfectly so that we beat the crowds and the heat. Definitely worth the extra money to spend your time learning and exploring on a private tour instead of spending hours picking people up from several hotels in traffic, which I experienced on my last trip (and won't ever do again!).Written 9 July 2024
- altw1100 contributionsGreat way to avoid crowdsWe chose to do this 6:30 pick-up private tour. Gabriel was our guide and picked us up in a good air conditioned vehicle. We arrived at Tulum shortly before 8 and there were only ten or so other visitors at that time. We had a great tour with good historical information. Bonus, photos with no one else in them. We were back to our resort by 11:00 (Puerto Morelos area). As we were leaving Tulum there were masses of people arriving in huge tour groups. This is definitely the way to go if you want to avoid crowds. It is hot, wear cool clothing, sun hat and good walking shoes. They no longer allow plastic bottled water. We knew this ahead of time and filled our reusable bottle so we had water while on the grounds, you will want water.Written 28 April 2024
- Pierre B0 contributionsTrusted and professional company and guide to explore Yucatán regionReally nice service and great conversation with Nefi. He was perfectly on time and very accommodating. The schedule he had planned for us helped us avoid all the crowds (and heat) in both Chichen Itza and the Cenote. He was knowledgeable and the explanations he provided during the visit were very clear and interesting.Written 18 April 2024
- 130beams0 contributionsGreat experience. Highly recommendedHad a great experience with the tour, very informative! The van will pick you up at the hotel right on time. Gabrielle is awesome! Highly recommended.Written 16 April 2024

- naomil2470 contributionsGreat tour of Tulum ruinsWe had a wonderful tour from Rafa and Danny. The price differential between the private tour of Tulum and non-private was well worth it. The transportation was comfortable and there were snacks and drinks for us. Very educational and knowledgeable staff - everyone was impressed.Written 25 January 2024
- 532daphner0 contributionsM.Y.O.T. has that personal touch.Every time I use M.Y.O.T. I have always had a great experience wether its a private tour through them or just transportation form point to point. This time we needed transportation from the Telum area(Maroma Resort) to Chiquila, to catch the ferry to stay a week on Holbox Island, Mx. And then from Chiquila to Cancun Airport. Nefi confirmed every thing by email and payment was easy. This family run business is always on time ,proffessional , and speak english well. The vehicals are clean and well kept. We have tryed others like Lomas through resort bookings but Ive found M.Y.O.T. has that personal touch .Written 3 January 2024
- 392lindsays0 contributionsGreat day with Family + Education + SwimmingThis tour was a family highlight of our trip to Cancun! It was a long day, but it was great to have the private van for our group. Our guide was very friendly and was able to share so much good information about the historical site, as well as the area. His tour of the pyramid area was excellent, and he got us there before the large crowds arrived by buses later in the morning. We also went swimming in a cenote and enjoyed a nice lunch after. My teenage kids really loved it.Written 8 November 2023
- 810normag0 contributionsAmazing private tour.Gabriel was amazing! He was very knowledgeable and provided lots of valuable information on the tour. He was also very courteous during our transport to and from Chichén Itza. I will book him again next time I go!Written 1 August 2023

My wife and I booked a sunrise tour of Chichen Itza through our USA tour company and we were gratefully connected with Nefi Petlacalco of Make Your Own Tour. He picked us up right on time (4am) from our Cancun hotel and wisked us 2 1/2 hours to the Mayan ruins in his private car while we napped in the back. Early access is limited and he secured passes for us and we enjoyed the sunrise almost alone. His family has been touring for generations and his knowledge of the sites and history is comprehensive. After 2 hours, we enjoyed a visit to a local Cenote, followed by breakfast and back on the beach in Cancun by early afternoon. We highly recommend Nefi to anyone considering any type of tour in the Yucatan. He can customize tours, boat trips, anything, for you and your friends/family.

When we mentioned our 4AM departure for Chichen Itza on our first full day in Cancun people looked at us like we were crazy.
The reward for our ambition, however, was more than worth it. My Fiance and I were the first to enter the temple grounds the morning we went, arriving about an hour before the sunrise.
No crowds, vendors, or unbearable heat, it felt like we were as close as we could get to going back in time.
Our tour guide, Gabriel, was absolutely wonderful. A terrific sense of humor and a genuine appreciation and knowledge of the history and culture of Mayans and the Yucatan.
After an incredible sunrise and journey through the ancient city, we were also the first of the day to enter and swim at the Ik Kil cenote, we had it all to ourselves
What made this incredible trip even better? We were back on the beach at our resort in Cancun by 1:30pm, with a full day and evening ahead of us.
From the communication before we arrived to our tour guides incredible ability and personality and the intimate morning we enjoyed in such a unique and wonderful place, I truly could not see doing this any other way.

Lemuel Sr. and Lemuel Jr. are THE BEST guides !
We had our first trip to Mexico last Christmas (2019). Chichen Itzá was a must-go so we were trying to get a more authentic experience and not going on a crowded bus, lots of noise, etc. The price we’ve gotten from another company (Alma LDS Tours) was way too salty. When we call Lemuel’s Cancun Tours, the price was a bit lower . Lemuel Sr. then suggested a “Sunrise Tour” , which was waaay cheaper. And because we wanted the quietest time of the day, we closed a deal with him. He told us to be ready at the reception at 4:20 in the morning. The night before , Lemuel Petlacalco, Sr. , called to share some information on the scriptures that would make sense when we get at Chichen Itzá.
We were very impressed by that level of care.
His son (Lemuel Jr.) had to take us instead his father due to illness in the family.
We felt very secure, comfortable (no crazy, crowded bus!!! Yay), informed , entertained and well-fed. If you go for the sunrise tour, you get breakfast included in the price. If you go after 8 am, you’ll get lunch included.
Whatever you want regarding tours (Isla Mujeres, Koba, Tulum, etc) in Cancun... They are the guys to talk to!
They’re very polite and friendly. We loved it and recommend them!
You will enjoy this tour either you are or not LDS, but Specially if you are a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS. MANY interesting facts !!!

Mischel was a fantastic guide. He picked my husband and I up from our hotel in Tulum right on time. We slept the 2 hour drive to Chichén Itzá and he kindly woke us up as we arrived at Open. This was my husband’s second time to the monument and he learned some new things from Mischel. He also helped us take some great pictures to remember the moment.
He then helped us get to Ik Kil before the crowds so we could enjoy the cenote relatively quiet. Unfortunately do to a dinner reservation we had that evening we had to eat lunch at the cenote, which I don’t really recommend. It’s a very sad buffet. If you have a chance I’d recommend arranging lunch elsewhere.

Amazing day, fantastic experience. From booking onwards we had a brilliant experience. Nefi was so helpful as we messed around with date and itinerary changes.
Michael was our guide. We asked constant questions, needed bathroom and coffee stops and were generally quite annoying. Michael helped with everything. He was extremely knowledgeable and spoke really excellent English. As well as his factual knowledge he had prepared material on an iPad and was happy to answer loads of questions on culture. We had a great meal and a truly fun day. Cannot recommend highly enough.

We had an amazing day with our guide Gabriel. He is very knowledgeable and extremely fun. He got us to Chichen Itza before the crowds and heat. His knowledge of Mayan culture and what occurred over time at Chichen Itza was amazing. We had plenty of time here and at the cenote. For lunch we avoided the usual buffet and Gabriel took us to a small, traditional Mayan establishment where we met the family and were showed the traditional kitchen where our meal was cooked. It was delightful. After the tour we discovered we had left a pair of glasses in out van and Make Your Own Tour delivered them back to our hotel. In our opinion and experience, there isn’t a better choice of tour companies in Cancun than Make Your Own Tour and no better guide than Gabriel!

Took an early departure from Cancun to reach the ruins about 8.30 before the crowds arrived. Our guide Gabriel offered the right balance of detail and broad history. The trip to the Cenote was a refreshing break as the heat began to build, followed by a good lunch at the Hacienda. Overall a very enjoyable trip.
