So much fun packed into a few hours
This was an amazing trip. Our guide Alex, participated w/us which made it more fun. Zip lining was exciting & rappelling into the cenote was magical. The monkeys were AWESOME! This day was my favorite part of my Yucatan trip.

        EcoColors Tour was Amazing!
Riaz and Mario were fantastic. Riaz was so knowledgeable with the history and archeology of both ruins and was a fantastic guide. The ruins were remarkable and the Cenote was beautiful and refreshing. Highly recommend this team with EcoColors and the excursion!

Best tour company in Yucatan Peninsula for nature lovers!
Best tour company in Yucatan Peninsula for nature lovers! This was our second time with Ecocolors and our guide, Alex. Both times we went on a custom tour to see wildlife and areas that no other tour company is going to. This visit we explored the coast and jungle of Sian Ka'an.

        Fantastic Private Cenote Dive
Riaz took me to the Cenotes on a less than ideal day and gave me an awesome, private tour of the cenotes and the surrounding areas. He taught us about the formations of the cenote and the impact it has on the area. He made sure I felt safe and comfortable and was extremely informative the whole time. He is a fantastic tour guide who seemingly enjoys what he does. I would recommend to all friends and family.

Riaz, Don Julio and Reyes were fabulous. So many whale sharks! Fun tip if you go around the time of a full moon you are setting yourself up to see many sharks! We also saw and swam with Manta Rays. The guide was knowledgable and friendly. Bucket list item checked off. What a rush!

Amazing tour of Chichen Itza and amazing time at a Cenote
Riaz was a perfect guide for our Chichen Itza tour. He was friendly, knowledgeable and patient. We learned and saw so much. We were allowed to enjoy everything at our pace and truly felt that the tour was personalized to our interests. The Chichen Itza was such an architectural wonder and full of history. The cenote was breathtakingly beautiful and such fun. The town of Valladolid was quaint and peaceful. Lunch was at this beautiful hotel with an open courtyard. The food was absolutely delicious. We felt extremely well taken care of by both Riaz and our driver. We want to thank them both for an amazing time.

Once in a life time opportunity
The best experience! This is one of our favourite activities whilst travelling for 6 months. Riaz and the team were so friendly and accommodating. The whale sharks were insane to swim with and the ceviche lunch at the end was so fresh and tasty. We also had an added bonus of seeing dolphins!

        Excellent Bird Watching Tour!
We had a very excellent bird watching tour with Ludo! He helped us to see and identify over 50 birds and took pictures of them (and us) to remember our trip by. The breakfast in the jungle was delicious. Would absolutely recommend Ludo and EcoColors!

        Cancellation Policy
I booked a private whale shark tour with some friends and there was a mix up and we had to cancel the tour. Being refunded when making travel plans can sometimes be troublesome. EcoColors was very understanding and refunded my money in full promptly. For this reason, even though we didn't do a tour, I felt they deserved a good review.

        Snorkeling with Sea Turtles
Our guide was wonderful. They led us around in the ocean finding sea turtles, rays, and other sea creatures to observe. If you do not want to take a boat and be in open water, this tour works. After our ocean visit. We went to two cenotes. The only request I would have is that the guide should have an underwater flashlight, just in case the lights go out in the cave. Otherwise, zero complaints! It was a perfect day!

A fascinating and fruitful morning of tropical bird watching near Cancun
This tour was wonderful! I went on an all-morning birdwatch with EcoColors Tours., which I arranged through Thomas Moore at my resort. They picked me up at 5:45am from my Cancun resort, included snacks and a break, and returned me to the resort around noon as promised. We drove about 45 minutes to Puerto Morelos, then went inland to the jungle areas near the Cenotes where the underground water is ideal for a profusion of tropical birds. Our guide, Luga, was very knowledgeable and spotted 47 species of birds for us. 28 of these were "lifers" (or first timers) for me, so the expedition was a huge success. Toucans! Motmots! Trogons! So many colors and types that I had never heard of. Our guide was personable and attentive to the group's needs. His English was quite good except for the pronunciations of names of bird species that I had not heard of, which he kindly spelled out. The group size will vary depending on who signs up that day; our tour was just me and one other couple, so we enjoyed a personalized and tailored experience.

        Mata is the best
I went traveling with a group from Denmark in Mexico, and our guide was Mata. He was the best guide i have ever had (Traveling anywhere). He takes his job and request seriously, engage, when a problem arises - he quickly go to solve it, he listens to understand and in overall has a good spirit. We had a great time with him. If you get Mata as your guide - You are lucky! The office could be a little better to plan ahead and for the right numbers of people

We booked with Eco Colors tour because our local dive shop suggested them. They came came to our resort and picked us up in a nice, comfortable van with the other folks on our tour. When we reached our harbour destination they gave us a full briefing about what would take place on the boat ride. Do not touch the whale sharks, stay 6 feet away from them. Do not use suntan lotion that will harm the reef. Wear lifejackets at all times and that sort of thing. Once we reached the area where the whale sharks congregated, the race to snorkel as fast as you can swim just to stay up with the passing whale shark was on! Guess what, you can't keep up, no matter how great of a swimmer you are, you still will lose. They are meant to swim in the ocean, you are not plus you have a big orange life jacket on. After all the tourists in your boat have had a couple of turns snorkeling with the whale sharks, it is time to make the 1 hour + ride back to Isla Mujeres for lunch in the shallows of the beautiful sand beach, The crew on the boats are so helpful and they are the ones who make your delicious lunch snack. The crew is there to help you be safe and safe for the whale sharks and will do all in their power to make that happen! Please don't show up on these whale shark tours expecting to be the only boat out there to see the animals! You are just kidding yourself. But also don't think the animals are harmed or harassed. Once you are in the water you will see if the animals are bugged by your presence all they have to do is swim down 15' and you are out of the picture. The Mexican government have rules in place to protect the whale sharks, and the boat captains are in charge on the water and make sure the rules are kept. This is their livelihood and it is in their best interest to keep it going and not harm the whale sharks and give no reason for the extreme eco folks to try to shut them down so that only the elite rich privileged few could see them.
My tips - Wear a long sleeve shirt, big rimmed hat, eco friendly sunscreen and seasick aid even if you do not get seasick! For photographers, as you are sitting on the rail of the boat start your camera then to record, once you get in the water you have no time to figure out if your camera is recording or not. You will be to focused on swimming your fastest to keep up with the "slow" whale shark and you will also just want to stop swimming and just be in awe of these magnificent creatures.

Of course I read reviews before coming and some of them mentioned that it was physically exhausting. I took them with a grain of salt, thinking “we’re all physically fit”! Apparently not! We stayed at the furthest resort, so the van picked us up first. After an hour and a half van ride, there was an extremely rough hour and a half boat ride. My body was tense the entire time as I struggled to hold on tight to the rails. After one intense bump, my sister even flew to the ground. Finally we made it and I was still feeling okay at that point. Exhausted, but okay. Then we jumped in! They send you out in pairs and I went with my 8 year old daughter. She had snorkeled with manatees before and it went great, so I figured there was no way I could let her or my 9 year old daughter miss out on this amazing experience. But this was very different than swimming with manatees. You sit on the side of the boat and jump a couple feet down into the choppy water. Salt water does get into your mask. The big waves and breathing in salt water had both of my children tap out almost immediately. $300 well spent.

They do have a guide jump in with you and he seemed to watch over the weakest of the two swimmers. He tried his best to get my daughter to turn around and see the whale shark that was right behind her, but again, she was DONE! The dives were very much “go, go, go” in order for you to catch a glimpse of and swim with these magnificent creatures. My sister was too slow, so the guide physically pulled her and swam to get her closer to one. What a great guy and amazing swimmer! The dives are quick - about 2-3 minutes in the water each time. So, for us (since we were at the furthest resort), there were 6 hours of travel time for a total of about 5 minutes in the water with the sharks. We all took Dramamine ahead of time and I also had motion sickness patches behind my ears, but when the boat was just waiting in the water and rocking back and forth as people dove, 4 out of the 5 in my family all fed the fish. My children were curled in my lap during the trip back and I swear going back was even more rough than getting there. My body was tense trying to hold on to the boat and keep my children steady. I vividly remember just wanting to skip the beach and lunch stop and get back to our resort as quickly as possible. The trip was rough and nauseating, but we made it! The “beach” stop ended up being nice, although my youngest could not touch the ground, since they didn’t want us straying too far from the boat. In the end, I paid $300 for my children to go on and completely HATE this adventure, but I would do it again. 6 hours of rough and nauseating travel for 5 minutes with these amazing creatures was worth it. Just know that this is what you’re signing up for. The crew was very kind and helpful to both me and my children. They can’t help the rough waters or long travel time. It just is what it is.

We had a wonderful time with Marie and her team. We got really lucky with how wonderful the weather was! Good and refreshments were provided for us. We also got to snorkle after we swam with the whale sharks.

The only thing I hope they can change for the future is to include the ENVIRONMENTAL TAX AND DOCK USE $15 USD in the fee. They were able to charge it but sometimes the wifi is slow / doesn't go through.

I also would recommend paying for the guide and diver to take photos for you. It makes the experience a lot easier and fun!

Thank you again Marie and team! We had a wonderful day out on the water!

There are so many tour companies out there doing these tours. I would recommend booking this through a DIFFERENT tour company, as I CANNOT recommend Small-Group Eco Friendly Tours (aka Eco Colors Mexico). Last week’s adventure with them was a complete disappointment, and this bucket-list experience was the main reason my daughter and I went to Cancun last week. We spent over 5 hours on their boat in rough waters and we didn’t see ANYTHING. I know that the tour operators can’t control the whale sharks, but they could have given us much better odds had they been prepared and a “good” tour operator. The radio in the boat we had didn’t work (a surprise to them once we got to the area where the whale sharks are seen). This is important because once one boat finds the sharks, they radio the other boats. So no radio… so we were on our own to find sharks. This was even more frustrating when I saw our spotter up on the roof of the boat nodding off several times. To make matters worse, our tour guide (Charli) was napping on the back deck waiting for us to find sharks…Not helping look for them at all. The real kicker was that there were boats that saw whale sharks before we arrived at the spot… we could have been out to the spot much earlier but we waited at the dock for over an hour for one last passenger to arrive so they could fill their quota. Such a shame. We all spent a bunch of money and lost a whole day due to this incompetent outfit. They tout themselves as a small group focused on Eco… but most of the other boats had same or fewer people and there was nothing Eco-focused about our trip. Like I said, there are many other tour companies that do this. Don’t choose this one.

Had a great day on the boat with our crew. Should pre-medicate with Dramamine as the sea is rough and not for the faint of heart. Our crew worked hard to find us whale sharks that were not overwhelmed with our tourist boats and our guide, Nelson, swam next to us to keep us feeling safe. The guides were respectful of the whale sharks and made sure other tourists kept their space. Since the whale sharks loom in open waters, be ready to spend a couple hours on the boat in rough waters looking for them. Once we had an amazing experience seeing the whale sharks in person, our crew took us to the beach for a delicious lunch and then we headed back. I’d advise this be your only activity that day since it’s quite a commitment to get to where the whale sharks are, and the crew plans a nice lunch and swim at the beach to break up the trip. Excellent and knowledgeable staff. We got back around 4pm and took the rest of the day to relax. 10/10 recommend if you can handle open sea and have the patience to wait for a good opportunity to see the whale sharks. A once in a lifetime.

We booked this tour way before the whole Covid problem. They were very accommodating and mover our tour twice upon request with no problem. Communication was great the entire time before and pick up was spot on time. Due to Covid they were only allowed to take half the normal passengers out on the tour which was nice for us. It was a great day smooth calm and clear waters. The Whale sharks were out in force. Getting as close as possible without touching, one even swam within a couple of feet from me mouth to tail, awesome. We got in 3 times and had great views every time, they were all around us. We even had a bonus of a large manta ray swimming around feeding as well. The crew was friendly helpful and attentive. I would do it again in a heart beat.

We booked this trip several weeks ago. We were originally supposed to go on 7/29 but they called to reschedule for 7/31 due to the weather. No biggie.

When we arrived on 7/31, they had overbooked the tour by 3 people. There were 13 of us on the last boat because they didn’t catch their mistake until all of the other boats had left and we had been sitting there for over 2hrs.

We got on the boat and Charlie (our guide) had let us know that 2 of us would have to get on another boat for about 20min while we swam with the whale sharks then we could return to our boat after. My husband and I were chosen to be put on another boat. We stopped in the middle of the ocean and were told to swim to the other boat. It was not an easy move to the other boat and we had to leave our belongings (money, phones, and sunscreen) on the first boat.

We got to the whale shark area and boats were practically on top of each other with so much chatter and yelling on the radios and dangerous activity in the water that the coast guard had to come out and break everyone up and threaten to shut the operation down.

After awhile of waiting, we finally got to swim with the whale shark but it ended up just being overly stressful with the amount of people, boats, etc.

Once we were done swimming, we got back on the boat and were told that we would have to ride 2hrs on the second boat to the island before we could get back to the 1st boat that had all of our belongings (again… money, sunscreen, phone).

We got to the island and everyone hopped off and went to enjoy drinks and lunch while we sat waiting for another 45min for our original boat to arrive with our sunscreen (we were completely burnt at this point) and our money (so we could purchase drinks).

When our original boat finally arrived, we were told that they had already spent their time on the beach and it was time to leave. (So we didn’t get to participate in island activities) AND we found out that they also separated the husband & wife couple that we were traveling with. So our friends were on boats by themselves with complete strangers for several hours.

I will NEVER do this again. This was a nightmare of an experience that we didn’t get to enjoy because this company overbooked a “guaranteed 10 person max” trip.

The guide from beginning to end was absolutely fantastic ! The group was small enough to where everyone could have a chance to swim with whale sharks with equal amount of time . We were lucky enough to have seen about 40 of them within 10 minutes of venturing out to their usual area .. it was a blast and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Cancun !

Once in a lifetime experience! Our guide, José, ensured both our and the whale sharks safety while providing an awesomely fun time. Our large group got to dive multiple times with the sharks and we loved the beach at Isla Mujeres.

Highly recommend strong swimmers for this activity as the sharks swim fast and you need to keep up with them to fully immerse yourself in this ocean experience. If you can keep up speed and calm confidence in the water you will LOVE this tour!

Additionally, no sunscreen is allowed but there is shade on the boat. Bring a hat and long sleeves for the boat ride and you will be fine!

Our guides; José, Leo, and Francisco were highly knowledgeable of the whale sharks needs and did the absolute best to make sure everyone got to interact with the sharks. Remaining ecofriendly was a top priority to our guide and it made the tour feel responsible. WE LOVED IT!

      Thanks again José!!

Mix thoughts about this. They were on time in picking us up and dropping us off. Unfortunately we did not see a whale shark and only got into the water to pee and then snorkel around some bleak old coral at the Island. Lunch was nice. It is good they only take small numbers.
Apparently the whale sharks may not have been around because the rain overnight pushed their food lower so that is where the whale sharks could have been. We could have spent that money on something else if we had a crystal ball and knew we were not going to see it. But that is the chance you take. Also the company does not offer a discount for a rebook. We were separated from the same tourists that we arrived with and had to wait till they returned. Lucky for us it was not long, but have heard of some horror stories of the time people have had to wait for others to return after the company separated them.
My tip would be look for a company that offers a discount or a free rebook if you don't see it, because it is a lot of money for a bumpy ride in a small boat, getting sun burnt and watching people spew into the water.
You have to remember it is a small boat and you really hit the waves and the bow drops. Don't recommend this boat if you have sore back. The waves can get high and when you go over it the boat goes down and it can be a real 'jarring' to your body. We were annoyed a family of 3 Adults after traveling about 2 hours, felt sea sick and wanted us to return. They asked 3 times and it made everyone feel terrible we were saying no. The host asked everybody is it is our wish and of course we all said no! You have to accept, this is not a cruise. It will be rough. Have travel sickness tablets before going.
