About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- deniseboston20140 contributionsFANTASTICThis full day trip was wonderful, exactly what we needed. There was a minimal delay in response after booking but Robert jumped on it as soon as he could and was very apologetic and accomodating. He followed up repeatedly to ensure I was taken care of. Alex was a fabuous guide for the day. Typically they go to the cave first and then Casa De Campo but he agreed to swap it because rain was expected in the afternoon. This worked out perfect. Casa De Campo is a remarkable place, so happy we got to see it. The cave was beautiful, we were allowed to do our tour privately in between school groups. That was SO appreciated. We had lunch between both sites and the restaurant was really nice and the food was Delicious! We didn't get to go to the beach because of the sawp in itinerary, and it was raining, but we didn't care, it was a full day and we were happy. We got picked up at our hotel at 9am and returned around 4:30. Alex was a fantastic guide. He was born in the DR, moved to the states when he was 13 and then moved back after 10 years. Due to that, his English was great. My husband speaks spanish so Alex sometimes spoke with him in spanish as well. This was not similar to the other tourist options available in Santo Domingo so we really liked that.Written 14 December 2024

- deiadra130 contributionsFabulous nature and culture! What a fabulous day! Robert was wonderful -- he shared in-depth knowledge, and gracefully answered all my questions. The caves were my favorite, and am glad the natural ecosystem is being protected. I learned so much about the Taino people and their rich cultural heritage. The drive along the coast and through the country was remarkable, and I enjoyed a lovely riverside lunch with authentic local cuisine.Written 28 November 2024
- angiemartell10 contributionsBest day ever!!!Alex was amazing. I was only in Dominican Republic for 4 days for a conference but I wanted to get a real sense of the island and he delivered and more. From pick up at hotel, to seeing an amazing cave, horseback riding, purchasing amber jewelry a detailed history about it, to swimming in the Caribbean and cacao shopping and authentic lunch I had the most amazing day. Very grateful that I chose this tour. Alex was super knowledgeable and historical aspect of the entire trip. I highly recommend it.Written 26 September 2024
- M6104SGsamanthac0 contributionsLovely people, delicious food, interesting tour..The tour was educational. Francisco, our guide was incredibly informative not only about the locations but about navigating the pitfalls of being a tourist in a town that is full of hawkers selling their wares. The Colonial zone is a beautiful place. I would love to take an entire day just to explore. Our driver, Robert, was also helpful and a pleasure to converse with. He had a very nurturing aura. The lunch included was delicious local fare. My extremely picky daughter finished the entire plate of beans and rice! Definitely recommend this tour.Written 6 June 2024
- ARB9530 contributionsNATURAL & ANCIENT WONDERS GALOREDO YOURSELF A FAVOR...GO! For me the treat started with conversations while riding with thoroughly English-proficient & BILINGUAL Alex, who I learned lived in the states from his pre-adolescence till a decade ago. Kind, considerate, charming and friendly he is knowledgeable and willing to engage one's wonderings and interests. His talk is informative as well as entertaining. That's just the guide! THE CAVERN Experience is magnificent and on its walls are mysterious and intriguing pictographs left by the indigenous Tainos... whose fascinating culture is explored later in the trip at a local archaeological museum ...the subterranean lake is a thing of beauty. The guide THERE is versed in geology and the lore of the Tainos. He later takes one above passing gorgeous plant life and the fascinating wildlife sanctuary featuring free-roaming rhinoceros IGUANAS. Horseback trail is optional (I opted not to). Later we went to lunch with typical Dominican cuisine (which mightve been a bit more typical as it was sorely missing beans for the rice!) BUT ALEX ASSURES this place might not be on their itinerary next time. Cannot deny it was VERY TASTY. LATER we visited a beautifully designed cultural center set on the palisades along the Chavon River. There we visited the Archaelogy museum.with Taino artifacts. DO NOT GO ON A SUNDAY if you looked forward to cultural center's artisan demonstrations (it was closed) I wasn't heartbroken because the grounds around the closed buildings were gorgeous especially the plant life and a Greco-Roman style amphitheater. Riding past the posh country club homes of the Elite who call CASA DE CAMPO home (seasonally) we go to the exclusive beach. Clean, quiet and serene... with lots of amenities, and swimming pools... the Caribbean beach sand powdery & the water calm, crystaline and tepid.... made a perfect CHERRY ON TOP for a great day!Written 13 May 2024

- RageKing0 contributionsDefinitely get my recommendationI have been working with Jacinto, Breidy, and Alex for this tour. This is for 27 Waterfalls Charcos de Damajagua. The waterfalls are great, but I also suggest doing the zip lines as well. Beware if you do the zip lines the hike is a challenge, and probably not a good idea for elderly during the summer. Also you will need crocs for the waterfalls. Everyone has been an amazing help. Plus they tend to answer correspondence late into the evening, and early in the morning. Alex is an excellent driver and very knowledgeable about the island. Plus they offer custom tours. I definitely recommend Sunset Caribbean.Written 18 January 2024

- Rea_rae1230 contributionsAmazing All Day ExperienceTruly A wonderful experience with our tour guide Alex! He was super friendly and personable from the very beginning. We went through amazing caves, saw beautiful country side views, ate delicious food ( we tried rabbit for the first time), and ended the day learning about the culture and watching the beautiful sunset in the Caribbean Sea. Truly an experience my husband and I will not forget. Alex you were a great tour guide and we will be sure to request you when we plan our trip to Haiti. Recommendation: my only recommendation would be to update the guidelines telling tourist to select one entrée during lunch so that the cost does not become too much. Or have a preset menu of what can be chosen so the restaurant staff knows as well.Written 26 December 2023

- Skyhigh-Dave0 contributionsBacardi Island was stunning...This was an all day trip, pick up was directly from our hotel (06.30) in a full size coach that was full. 1st stop was to swap into off road trucks then taken to the top of a mountain where they were amazing 360 views and swings, zip lines (extra cost) and coffee/tea/wc huts. Next stop was a small fishing town where we boarded a speed boat to Bacardi island (around 45 mins). We stayed on Bacardi island (Cayo Levantado) for around 2hrs (we would have liked longer). lunch was delicious and everything well organized. We then took a boat to the mangroves and caves. Then back on the boat to the port and onto the coach home. Our guide was very informative and friendly. All in all this was a great trip and I high recomend it.Written 19 December 2023

For context, our group was 3 adults in their sixties and 3 adults in our thirties. We weren’t sure if it would be too much of a “party” atmosphere for us to enjoy, but the catamaran provided enough space for us to sit and relax on the top level away from the loud music while still enjoying the vibe and boat ride out to the island. Our dad absolutely loved the sandbar part of the trip.
Breidy and Oscar were fabulous! Breidy was informative ahead of time, provided recommendations on what to bring, and prepared us for the day. Oscar was with us from the moment we got in the van until we got back - he got us successfully on/off the boats and made sure we were taken care of on the island. He even caught our aunt when she slipped on the boat stairs! After the excursion was over, we accidentally left a sweatshirt in the van. Breidy and Oscar worked together to deliver it back to us before we left!
The only thing we would say you need to know ahead of time is that the van journey (about 2.5 hours) and the speed boats will be crowded to the max. Don’t expect breathing room - every seat was taken and you’ll get quite close to your neighbors. Not necessarily a negative, just something to know ahead of time.

This was an amazing tour! We started the morning early at 6:15AM for our hotel pickup, then were driven to Bayahibe and embarked for Saona Island. We had AMAZING tour guides (Alex and Oscar) who made sure we were always taken care of. The boat ride was about 2 hours each way and was filled with music and dancing. This is a must-do tour in Santo Domingo!

Overall this experience was great. They pick you up from your Airbnb/hotel and take you to Zona Colonial to get on a bus to the La Romana area (about 2 hrs). Then, you get on a speedboat from the shore to a catamaran. The catamaran ride to Saona Island is about 1.5 hours. We got to the island around 12:20PM and were immediately served lunch which was very good. They had pasta, rice, chicken or fish, bread rolls, cucumber or tomato salads, and fresh banana and watermelon. We stayed on the island until about 3:20PM. After that we went to the “natural swimming pool” which was crystal clear shallow water with lots of starfish to look at. Then, it was a quick ride back to the mainland on a speedboat (20-30mins?). Then you get back on the bus to Santo Domingo. After that, you have to find your own way back home (they don’t pick you up from the bus stop to take you home).
When Breidy picked us up he gave us fruit, snacks, and water which was very appreciated! The bus ride was comfortable and air conditioned. The catamaran ride was fun, although if you’re not a fan of loud music then you will have to move to the front of the boat. Drinks consist of soda, water, rum, and Presidente.
I am giving 4 starts because I am concerned about the environmental impact of the excursion—there were countless plastic cups given out for the open bar, and the ride was very windy. I saw multiple pieces of litter, plastic cups, etc. going into the ocean. Same issue on the beach—once everyone cleared out, you could see tons of cups and litter all over the sand, with no one really picking them up. When we arrived at the natural pool, there were MORE drinks being passed out to people who were heading into the water—I’m sure not everyone held onto their cups to throw in the trash on the boat.
It was really nice to see the marine life—tons of starfish and I even saw two stingrays! You will have to bring your own snorkel if you want to get a better look. The staff made sure to warn us not to touch the starfish because if you take them out of the water they die. Despite this, there was still a child who grabbed a starfish and held it out of the water, killing it. I am concerned about the long-term impact of excursions like this on the marine life—starfish in particular suffer from overexploitation since people either accidentally kill them or take them as souvenirs.
The only other thing I’d say is that while this excursion is fun, you should be prepared for a LONG DAY. We were picked up at about 6:20AM and we arrived back in Santo Domingo around 8:30PM.

Great experience. After I contacted the staff to make sure that the trip was not cancelled because I had bad experiences with other companies in the past, Sunset Caribbean took it upon themselves to make my experience memorable. Fully personalized pick up from my hotel directly with the very kind Jacinto. Drive to the boat and from there on, open bar going through some of the best views on the Caribbean. Unforgettable experience that I would totally recommend to book with them.

From the moment our driver Breidy Solano picked us up until the time he dropped us off at our hotel, our trip was amazing. Breidy was hospitable had fresh fruit and water for us when we got in the car. He stopped for a bathroom break and coffee! We were staying in Santo Domingo, and the tour is in Bayhibe about an hour and a half to two hour drive. I’m not sure exactly how long because Breidy was funny and very knowledgeable about the areas we were driving through. He handed us off to “La Crema” one of the tour guides for the boat ride to Saona. Le Crema was entertaining and the photos that he took were fantastic! Very professional. He knew all of the right poses and lighting to get photos to perfection! And Air dropped them right to my phone. The entire crew was attentive. We always had a drink in our hand and a smile on our faces! Hands down the BEST trip! And the crew spoke three languages fluently. French, English, and Spanish. When we were done Breidy was waiting for us at the shore to take us back to the hotel. I highly recommend this experience to anyone that visits the DR.

The garden is very beautiful and well-kept. Spacious rooms and although the complex is made up of 1400 rooms divided into 2 complexes (famify and only adults) there were always free places both in the various swimming pools and on the private beach. Even in restaurants you can easily find a place.
Very nice is the fact that you can go to any restaurant without having to book in advance. The food varied and good.
By the pool there is a really excellent pizza kiosk. Possibility of having fresh fruit all day at all hours. A truly complete all inclusive. Fridge in the room replenished every day.
I was a little disappointed by the beach.
Very small if you think of being in the Caribbean. Limited possibility of swimming in the sea, the buoys delimit a very limited space due to the boats that leave from the nearby port for the various excursions.
Very beautiful excursion to the island of Soana, here you can see the postcard Caribbean.
As for the Hilton hotel, I advise you to book in the family room, it costs less, than the only adults, and you can use, if you don't have children, all the rooms of the only adults even the various restaurants. The only negative note, for me, is that smoking is not allowed. No smoking hotel. Which is not specified anywhere.
Hotel with international guests, very few Italians, poor evening entertainment. If you are looking for a quiet and restful holiday it is ok. If you want a little more life and evening entertainment, I don't recommend it.
I confirm truly excellent food and good service. Overall a nice holiday.

The trip was very long, from Lopesan the tour transport picked us up at 8 am and we arrived in Saona at 1:30 in the afternoon, there were 5 transfers there and 5 back on the island, we only stayed for about 2 and a half hours
In reality, it wasn't worth it for us, the island was not as they had said.
It is a normal beach and there was a lot of seaweed and stone
What we did like was the 10 minutes they allowed us to be there. Natural pool that was beautiful.
This comment is from. The. Point of view of our experience.
The photos they took of us
The guys on the excursion cost 80 dollars for 8 digital photos

Had a great time on this trip! We were picked up outside our hotel and transported to the boat that took us to Saona Island where we spent the day. Everything was very professionally organized. I would especally highlight how personal the service was. After booking the trip I was contacted by travel coordinator Breidy to confirm the tour, the pickup point and a few tips for the trip. It was very nice to have a phone number to call/message when we had questions.
I can gladly recommend it to other travellers wanting to have a relaxive and fun day in the sun.

Great experience if you want a long day out of Santo Domingo. 6:30am pickup on the dot then a 2 hour car ride with a break halfway through that led us to a beautiful catamaran ride to Saona Island. Beach and fun. Pina coladas and massages available for purchase (massage not worth it). Took the speedboat back. Wonderful time. Great driver. Never felt unsafe. LGBT friendly experience.
