Don’t miss out on this experience
10/10 would recommend this tour. No, we did not get the chance to see baby turtles due to the season we went but seeing the village and being able to learn about the “why” behind it was completely worth it. It was a full day spent learning and exploring such a beautiful area. Our group was nervous about the 6am wake up but truly wouldn’t have changed it since we were able to be some of the firsts to each of the beaches we visited! Melvin and his entire crew were AMAZING & extremely knowledgeable. The food was delicious & the drinks were yummy. Would also prefer to be in the small group like this tour vs the big party boats so you could easily get from beach to beach. They also have a private roped off area on one of the beaches for you so you aren’t surrounded but a huge crowd. Thanks for such an awesome experience!

        Amazing trip to Saona Island
Amazing trip to Saona Island. We booked through air BnB party of 4 (2 adults and 2 children). Melvin was an amazing host. Kept me updated before our trip and very friendly and professional. I did a lot of research into different tour operators and as we had 2 children I didn’t want to be with a massive group or booze cruise style. I wanted more an intimate quiet and relaxing trip. We were joined by 2 others and Picked up at the hotel. Taken to the port nice and early to beat all the other groups. The van was cool and had WiFi. We then went on a speedboat. It was a little choppy on the way but was fine going between the beaches and on the way back. We had life jackets. We visited 4 locations on the island. Had breakfast, lunch and drinks. We visited 2 of the most beautiful beaches when they were quiet and enjoyed taking photos and swimming in the clear warm sea before other larger groups arrived. We swam and held star fish and snorkelled around lots of beautiful fish. We also saw a sea turtle. Nothing felt rushed or pressured to buy anything extra. Melvin’s passion and knowledge of the island really showed. If you are looking for a more intimate, chilled trip where you can enjoy the island when it’s quiet I would highly recommend Melvin. The most beautiful place we have been and the trip and Melvin are definitely 5*. Thank you.

Amazing experience with the best guide
Wow Wow Wow! We had an exceptional wedding anniversary: we were picked up by the guide himself and the driver at our hotel with a beautiful car (be careful if you're at Riu Bambu for exemple, it's 2 hours drive until the boat) and we arrived at the public boat for a 45 min trip together with the guide and when we arrived, we were again picked up by a nice car: to reach the ecolodge, you may want to chose the truck option as it's kind of a hike, and when you arrive there it's amazing quiet and all well renovated, then you walk/climb to your tree house which is amazing and so romantic. Then we had a nice typical dominican lunch (included)we went to the waterfall and we advice to choose the donkeys transportation if you are not a hiker as it's quite of a trail going there. Enjoy a coconut or pineapple cocktail before walking to the waterfall and take some pictures before the busses tourists arrive otherwise go to the secret small waterfall, relax there as long as you want and take your pictures at the biggest one when the tourists left ;) Don't freak out: it's just that the Dr Fish treatment is included even if you don't ask haha. Enjoy your tree house and for the dinner you may choose to go with the 4WD quads along the beach and have dinner at the Raffaele Pizzeria if it's open, so delicious (not included). We spend a night hearing all the birds around, we woke up in a peaceful environment and enjoyed a very nice breakfast (tea/coffea/eggs/sausage/potatoes/bread/fruit) and went on the 4WD quads to visit the amazing beaches all around: we were all alone on the beaches Wow and we had a very nice lunch: several options available (all included). When you are ready to go back, the guide - who became a friend in the meantime- brings you back to the boat (he gives them again the money for our transportation) and the same taxi driver waits for us on the other side to bring us back to our hotel.

        Great day
Amazing trip to Saona. Melvin speaks good english and is very involved in his Work. Pro’s: - english speaking guide - pick up/Drop off to the hotel -WIFI IN THE BUS WAS REALLY GREAT TO HAVE - you arrive 1st at almost All the places you visit, before the Big crowds - small group of 12-14 people - decent food and drinks Cons: -nothing at All, except maybe the food could improve a bit, and i didn t like the fact that it was thrown to the trash instead of feading people in need or animals. But maybe logistically is hard for them. Tip: Bring 2 towels Repellent Sunscreen Hat, sunglasses Dry change of clothes Snaks

Harrowing horseback ride - extorted for tips
Beaches, whale-watching, drinks and lunch all fine. Horse ride to the waterfall was a nightmare - poorly cared for burros, no proper saddles, trail was mud, rocks and horse poop. Fortunately, every horse is led by a “volunteer” guide who lets you know on the way back that they expect a big tip. I don’t begrudge them - my guide literally saved my ass, but not everyone had $50-$60 cash with them for a tip. Also plan o.n $80 for pictures - at least the photographer took credit cards. Excursion was supposed to last 10 hours, but ours was 15. Our guide even exited the bus before the trip was done. I guess he figured he wouldn’t be getting any tips! Find another tour for whale watching, and skip the waterfall - not worth the extra bus time and scary horse ride.

        A wonderful day!!
Melvin truly loves what he does! He is very knowledgeable about the history of the Dominican Republic. We loved our trip to Sanoa Island and our stop and Mano Juan village. Melvin provided comfortable transportation to the marina as well as breakfast, lunch, and beverages. We stopped to see all the beautiful starfish and to snorkel. Melvin provided the snorkels. This is an all-day excursion but is well worth your time and money. We found the excursion to be very reasonably priced. We left early in the morning and were able to get to all the stops before the other large excursion groups.

I cannot say enough about Melvin and the phenomenal sights and history he provided us. We only had 12 people on our tour which was perfect compared to some of the other ‘Saona Island excursions’ that shuttled 50-75 people on a catamaran. We were picked up at 6:30am (2nd to last pickup) and once we were all loaded, Melvin had us state our names and we all became ‘Familia’ for our trip. During the drive to the speed boat, Melvin provided us the history of the Dominican Republic and the surrounding islands and how they were established. Very interesting and educated me in history I did not know. Due to our small size and early departure, we were able to beat the crowds to Sonora Island and Melvin provided us with a private tour Mano Juan and then he shuttled us off to a spectacular private beach that I could not believe. We never felt rushed and Melvin would let us know how much time we were allowed and never had to gather us up. He provided a wonderful Dominican travel bar (I.E Big ass cooler) that was well stocked with Rum Drinks and cerveza. Breakfast was provided at Mano Juan Island which was sandwiches and fruit. Lunch was well prepared and we had chicken, pork chops, fish, potato salad (really nice) and slaws and salads – The trip also provides a private area with chairs for the group which you can move around to your liking. Again, the water was pristine at ALL locations we stopped – Next was a place where we got out of the boat and located starfish which we were able to hold (underwater) and take pics and sample the Dominican travel bar!

Even though the price is higher than the other excursions to Soano Island, it was SO well worth it for the small size and private tours/beaches we were able to visit. We never felt rushed and was the most relaxing and tranquil island tour I’ve ever experienced. Our boat captain was really great and knew when to make the best of the waves. The captain and his assistance were extremely helpful when entering and leaving the boat (shallow water) and made sure everyone was safe and enjoying themselves.

We took our trip on a Tuesday and was so impressed we were thinking about doing it again on Thursday but had other excursions we wanted to take. You ‘get what you pay for’ on most of the island excursions and I would gladly pay this price again as it was so worth the ‘non hassle’ of shuttling between boats and having to locate a calm spot once you were on the beach. Great Job Melvin and don’t change a thing about your tour. You did a spectacular job and look forward to seeing you again!

Probably the best excursion we’ve ever booked! Melvin was a brilliant and knowledgeable tour guide who made sure we had the best day. There was a lot packed in but enough time was given at each part (the turtle conservation site, different beaches, starfish waters, snorkelling) so it didn’t feel rushed. Starting at 6am was a bit tough on holiday but DEFINITELY WORTH IT! The beaches on Saona island gets packed with tourists in the peak of the day but we were able to enjoy them with hardly anyone else around. The tour group is small - a maximum of 12 people, so it felt much more personal. The food that Melvin provided was delicious especially the grilled fish at lunchtime. There was wifi on the bus which was a nice touch. Melvin took lots of photos on his phone of the group and individuals/couples ans airdropped/whatsapped them to us on the bus home. Saona island was so so beautiful but one big tip - bring big repellent as there are a lot of mosquitos when you’re sitting on the beach. This excursion was a little bit more expensive than other Saona tours but it was worth it and I would recommend it to anyone looking to go to Saona.

This small-group tour to Saona Island is a must when visiting the Dominican Republic! Melvin puts a lot of thought into every detail of this excursion. From arranging pick up & drop off for the members of the group, making breakfast for everyone, providing ample bathroom stops, explaining the beautiful culture and history of the Island and the people, to making sure that each member of the group has eaten well, has something to drink at all times, providing an air-conditioned bus with wifi and is always feeling comfortable. Melvin's tour begins early in the morning and for good reason, he brings his groups to the only part of the island where the people live. This group gets to be on the island before any other group, so you really get to enjoy the calm beauty before other groups. Melvin and his team are extremely thoughtful and we truly enjoyed this excursion. You cannot beat this experience for the price. 100% recommend you book with Melvin and his company! You are missing out if you don't!

Had an amazing tour with Visita Republica Dominica. It’s a bit more costly than the other Saona tours but 100% worth it as you do not have to be on a coach for hours picking up other travellers and was part of a small group. We had Melvin as our guide and he was excellent. Pick up was on time with comfy transportation with a toilet stop en route.

We got a speed boat to Saona Island and back. First stop was on a lovely quiet beach on the island where we had breakfast and visited a turtle conservation. We then travelled by boat to the main tour part of the island and embarked there before the mass of other tour operators arrived. There was lots of soft drinks and rum available to drink at your own discretion, and a lunch to feed a small army.

After a few hours on the island we travelled by speedboat to an area to see the star fish. Melvin was great and warned us about holding the starfish (this is detrimental to their health and can result in death), unlike the other tour operators letting people do what they want for insta likes. We even saw a turtle. Then we travelled back to the port where we had another opportunity to snorkel.

Everything went smoothly and was very well organised. Melvin also took lots of photos abs videos that he shared at the end of the day.

Definitely worth a day trip! Loved it! Thanks, Melvin!

Couldn’t recommend this tour enough for anyone wanting to visit Saona Island! Melvin was an incredible tour guide who provided a great service; he was energetic, caring and knowledgeable with a great sense of humour. The small group made it a more personal experience rather than some of the catamaran excursions on offer.

The trip was great value for money with five different stops including the small village of Mana Juan. Most tours just go to 1 or 2 beaches but Melvin is passionate about sustainable and responsible tourism so showing us local living and culture was part of the tour. He prioritises giving back to the community which we really appreciated. We enjoyed learning about the island and local history, as well as interesting facts about the different places and wildlife we saw on our trip. The two main beaches looked like a postcard. An early start meant we had plenty of time to explore and were often the first ones to arrive at the beaches!

The food he prepared (breakfast and lunch) was delicious and there were plenty of drinks on offer, including a lovely rum punch!

We appreciated that he took photos of the group which he later shared, without charging for the pics which a lot of tours do. Highlight of our holiday- cannot recommend Melvin and his tour enough!

Aramis picked us up on time, nice van, good driver compared to other Dominicans ;)

Melvin was THE BEST tour guide, very nice, helpful, cheerful, he really wanted us to learn some of Dominican Republic history, told us why the two countries in one island very interesting and informative.

Fist they took us to meet some locals @ManoJuan, got to talk to “Negro”, who is on a personal quest to save te turtles, he’s truly a very impressive person, a force of nature. Had breakfast at the beach with a wonderful view, great sandwiches and natural fruit juice.

Then they took us to el Toro Beach, great fun in the sun, 40 to 50 mins of a mesmerizing sea, almost no waves.

After that a small boat ride to abanico Beach, where we are a great lunch (pork, fish, salad, rice, pasta, chicken) tasty, well seasoned, a good variety of drinks, beer, soda, natural fruit juice, rum.
We had a good hour and a half to stay at this wonderful beach, lots of foto ops, including the famous palm tree.

Then they took us to the manglars to see star fish, this is shallow and very beautiful, a great stop.

Finally about 10 mins out of Bayahibe bay, we snorkeled for about 10 to 15 mins, they just threw some bread crumbs into the water and immediately loads of fish came nearby.

All in all a 5 star experience, as I said Melvin is by far one of the best tour guides I’ve had, he took pictures of the group, then sent them to us, he is just a great guy!! I would totally recommend this tour, even tho it’s a little bit more expensive it’s totally worth the price.

Our family of 10 booked Melvin’s small group tour of Saona Island after reading all of his other incredible reviews. Our day was truly incredible and did not disappoint in any way. Melvin communicated about everything ahead of time through WhatsApp, and made sure all of our questions were answered. The locations he took us too were unparalleled in their beauty and seclusion, and we created unforgettable family memories along the way (most notably with the starfish).
Even if you are a smaller group going with others, I still highly recommend this tour because it will not have more than 14 people in total. He has dedicated chairs and space on the one crowded beach, so you never feel overwhelmed even at the peak of tourist season. I cannot praise Melvin and his crew enough, and you will not want to miss this small group experience.

We had a smashing day out with Melvin and his boat team who are all great hosts. Melvin is a font of knowledge around Dominica and all aspects of Saona Island. We got picked up early and arrived early at each of the beaches, had plenty of time to ourselves before the masses arrived and had a really enjoyable personal service. The team use a small speedboat which is very fast but comfortably fits the max 14 people that they take on tours. They also provide plenty of drinks all day as well as a sandwich and fruit breakfast and filling typically Dominican lunch (rice, chicken, pork, fish and more local fruit). Unless you are looking for a booze cruise experience, I could not recommend this tour enough for the people hosting, small size and the overall value.

This is a gorgeous and exhilarating private tour well worth it!!! I've travelled multiple times to Dominican Republic and have taken many tours this one was very special indeed. We visited Saona island by boat, stopped at the Turtle sanctuary on Del Este National Park and met a wonderful gentleman who has saved over 20,000 turtles over the last 10 or so years. Melvin explained everything to us about the community who live on the island and we felt so privileged to see the sanctuary, they even gave us a gift of honey made right there! We also toured to 2 other beaches Toro beach which was very secluded and one more which had packed boats descending on the island, we were 14 in our boat here we had a gorgeous home cooked lunch and got free 10 minute massages for $'s you could have a longer one. The genuine hospitality expressed by Melvin and his wife Natalie were lovely, they expressed caring for each of us individually and took lots of photos so they could share them with us later.

We had a group of 11. 6 adults and 5 “big” kids ranging from 12-20 years old. Such a great time. You get to see many things before other groups because you start early in the morning. This especially paid off during our time with the starfish. I had never seen anything like that! Melvin not only showed us many beautiful things, but informed us about the history of the islands. This was especially interesting and the adults in our group ended up googling the information to learn a little more. The “kids” in our group did well. It is a long day so we made sure to not get sunburned the day before and we went to bed early the night before. If you bring kids or teens I would definitely bring extra cash for the snacks at the rest stop. Also the van was comfortable and had WiFi which was an added bonus. And the lunch was DELICIOUS:)
Also not necessary but I did connect with company via WhatsApp before I arrived on the island and doing that really helped with the communication.
Thank you Melvin and everyone for an amazing day 💙
