About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- zoeaI6064BZ0 contributionsFamily tour in rainy KyotoThank you to our tour guide Oki who navigated the Kyoto temples for us on a very rainy day! He was so understanding especially with all of our accommodations and was always so thoughtful and worried about us all. He made our dinner reservations which was also very helpful. Oki is so knowledgeable and explained everything to us in a way that was easy to understand. Thank you Oki!!Written 3 October 2024
- kathyllll0 contributionsWonderful day in Kyoto! We had an amazing day with Miho yesterday on our tour of Kyoto. We saw a few of the sights in Tokyo, including the silver temple and the gold temple as well as Nijo Castle and the bamboo forest, but what made our trip so amazing was the knowledge that Miho had on many things. We learned a lot about Japanese history and the history of the sights we saw. She made some great suggestions for extras on our tour. One of the highlights was the restaurant she took us for lunch which was a traditional Japanese lunch. It was a place we never would have found without her. What also made our day so special was how friendly Miho was. Her English was perfect and she was wonderful to talk with about not only Japan, but many other topics as well. We thoroughly enjoyed our day with her!Written 29 September 2024
- catherinetQ7533MA0 contributionsGreat tour and GuideWe booked a one-day private tour in Kyoto for our family of 7 and 1 infant. Oki-san was a wonderful guide. We got a taste of Kyoto's rich history with Oki-san's help and knowledge. Yamamoto-san was our driver. He navigated us through the city safely and promptly! We enjoyed the tour very much and highly recommend it.Written 29 September 2024
- L4601VQsarak0 contributionsTrue Kyoto experienceOur tour guide Oki took us to parts of Kyoto we would never been able to find, especially for the half day. He was able to squeeze in everything we wanted to see and some more. What is great too is that the tour is tailor made for what you want to see. Wear comfortable shoes and you will be able to see so much that Kyoto has to offer, with Oki’s help.Written 18 September 2024
- FrequentFlier3247160 contributionsUnforgettable Kyoto with the best guide Oki!👌🏼Motoi Okishio was our best guide ever, very knowledgeable, patient and friendly, we were very happy with his answers to our questions and he took us to hidden special places that are unforgettable, he also picked the best spots for many delightful pictures for our memories from beautiful Kyoto!Written 10 August 2024
- aldo andrei P0 contributionsGreatest tour in Japan.Oki-San did a great job to understand our family needs and interest before the trip and made his best to ensure that even with very severe weather we were able to have a very enjoyable tour. My whole family agreed that we would love to have this kind of tours for the rest of our vacation in Japan.Written 6 August 2024
- 5beckiep0 contributionsHighly recommended and very accomodatingOki was a great guide! He was very knowledgeable and accommodating of our needs, esp as we could get a little slow with a 5 and 7yo with our group. He spoke English and helped us navigate a grocery store at the end of trip, too! We were able to choose the destinations we wanted, but Oki made some suggestions, too (during planning stage). Oki was a very willing and capable photographer and was always asking us if we wanted a picture. He suggested some great photo locations. Lunch was in a private room for our group and was delicious and an interesting experience. The van was very comfortable and they provided us with cold water. I would highly recommend this tour.Written 1 August 2024

- MDUSER7860 contributionsHighly recommended. Amazing way to customize tour of Kyoto in one day.We highly recommend this customized tour if you’re interested in covering many highlights across Kyoto in a single day. We started by booking a specific day and were working with Oki-San on the itinerary but the weather forecast was for heavy rains so we decided to reschedule. Cancellation and rebooking was straightforward and Oki-san worked behind the scenes with the tour operator to assist in assigning Katsuko-san as our guide for the rescheduled day. Katsuko-san planned a perfect and wonderful day of sightseeing covering all the beautiful attractions in Kyoto from our wish list on the itinerary. Katsuko-san inquired about our preference for lunch and made reservations at a very nice local restaurant in line with the timing of our schedule. With her clear communication, contextual information and everything was perfect and fully explained. Taking care to give us the complete experience, Katsuko-san took the most direct and best route to cover our packed itinerary. Keep in mind the tour covers entrance for four heritage sites, she explained when we had to buy tickets ourselves. One of the best parts was explanation of historical and cultural relevance. Most of all it was a true pleasure to meet Katsuko-san and experience her professionalism and passion in guiding visitors to Kyoto. We enjoyed the experience very much.Written 2 June 2024
- socaltravelers240 contributionsKyoto Tour With Oki-SanOur tour of key sights in Kyoto with Oki was outstanding. His knowledge of the history and significance of shrines, temples and feudal castles was outstanding. We had read guidebooks and conducted online research in advance, but Oki's knowledge of details and cultural significance really enhanced our experience. We moved at a fast pace between sights, but had ample time at each of the four locations we visited to explore, take photos and ask questions. We also stopped for a wonderful lunch and wrapped the day up in Gion with a very authentic dessert experience. Oki adds nice touches such as buying matcha cookies at a beautiful dessert shop for a mid-day break. A very well balanced and informative day....and I have high expectations.Written 21 May 2024

Visiting a different country can be extremely nerve-racking so we decided to take a private tour. Our guide Yoshi did not disappoint! He started us off at the fish market where he explained almost everything that was on display, visited a few shrines and a Buddhist temple. Having him navigate the train stations was such a time saver. The train stations are easy enough to get through but he knew them all. He suggested a really great sushi bar for lunch and took us there, taught us some phrases to thank our servers and took us to the Meiji Shrine. We went to Ginza and the Shibuya Crossing. He took us to a street called "Girl Street" I think where he let my wife go to a cat cafe that she wanted. We ended at a place that he said pours the best Asahi and he was right! He made sure we knew where to go and was very professional and kind. I would recommend him to a customized tour which he served as a great guide. There was no way we would've seen all we did without him.

Yoshi did an amazing job getting us to all the sites we requested and sharing his own experiences after living here for so long. He was such a wealth of information and knew how to get around very efficiently. One of the highlights for my husband was going through the back alley that briefly passed through a cafe into another alley after leaving a shrine. I really appreciated visiting all the shops that have been around 100+ years run by multiple generations doing the same craft. Was hard to really narrow down what we loved most but those two stood out as very unique. Thanks Yoshi! Hope to see you again someday and without the threat of CoronaVirus!

Very dissapointing tour, but some of the sights were worth visiting.
We chose the full day tour with public transport. We were given the option to choose what we visited and made some choices including the fish market and some traditional neighbourhoods and we allowed our tour guide to choose the rest.
The fish market was interesting as we received many explanations of what was being sold and the traditional neighbourhoods allowed us to discover some historic shops we may not have found otherwise. The rest of the tour was deeply disappointing. The imperial palace gardens were closed so instead we walked around the outside. Had we been informed they were closed, we would have chosen to do something else. We then went to a beautiful garden which was again, just walking around and was something we could have done better in our own time. Our tour guide (Yoshi) gave us very little information about Tokyo and the places we visited, often barely doing more than repeating what was written on the signs. I was hoping to learn about the recent and ancient history of Tokyo but we discovered very little. I don't like having to constantly ask questions of the tour guide in order to extract information, but if this is your style you may have more success.
I have been on many tours, both group and private, expensive and free and this was one of the worst. We learned very little and made inefficient use of time.
We had tickets to a sumo retirement ceremony the next day, and at our tour guides advice we went later in the day, rather than going at the starting time on our tickets. This resulted in us missing all of the sumo matches and entertainment and only witnessing the hair cutting ceremony. Incredibly disappointing as the matches were one of the main reasons we were going.
Not only did the tour feel like a huge waste of money, but our tour guides advice also resulted in our very expensive sumo tickets being almost a complete waste.

Thank you for taking your time to give us a review. We are very sorry to hear that you were disappointed with our tour and the advice you received from our guide led you to miss the sumo matches before the retirement ceremony. We sincerely apologize. The Imperial Palace East Gate Garden was closed on Feb 1st unexpectedly , however the guide could have found it out before heading there. We apologize for that.
Despite of the experience you had, we are glad to hear that you enjoyed the Tsukiji Fish Market and the historical neighborhood. Again, we are very sorry for the bad experience you had. We sincerely hope rest of your stay in Tokyo was enjoyable
Kind Regards,
Venture Team

Kumiko was a wonderfully insightful and patient guide for our 4 hour private half day tour of Tokyo with a driver. I was traveling with my mother and father, and we provided Kumiko a series of requirements for their accessibility and she was able to successfully customize the tour for our needs. She will even contact you well in advance to help plan the perfect itinerary, whether you are new to Tokyo or a frequent visitor. In our case, we needed to adjust the itinerary mid-way through the tour because of weather, and Kumiko was able to recommend new alternative sites to enjoy. She knows so much about the city.
Our itinerary included Senso-ji Temple, Early Cherry Blossom/Plum Blossom viewing, Shibuya Crossing, Tokyo Marathon Start Line viewing (my request).
I highly recommend Kumiko-san for a tour in Tokyo and will be excited to return for another in the near future.

My tourguide Junichi was punctual, polite, and personable. Junichi met me at my hotel which was greatly appreciated. I bought a Day-Pass for myself and for him for the subway system. Junichi eliminated the mental angst of trying to navigate a complex subway system in a foreign country. New York City subway does not phase me but I could not have done the Tokyo subway system without a guide. Junichi would even tell me how many stops we would be on every train, so I knew how long our rest would be. Your tour guide should not incur any expenses for food or subways but he was too polite to overtly express this so make sure you pay for these incidentals. “Fluent” in English can be a relative term. Intelligibility is not the same thing as fluency. English and Japanese sounds are not complimentary. I could understand about half of what Junichi said but this did not negatively impact my enjoyment. Junichi walks fast but will accommodate anyone. Make sure you bring comfortable shoes. If you are not an avid walker the all day (7-8 hour Tour) will be too much, and better to split it into two or more days. Don't be afraid to make little stops for anything you see that interests you (a souvenir, a giant raw oyster) but you may have to shout out to Junichi to please wait, as he will be making a bee-line from major attraction to major attraction. Excellent choice for lunch. Junichi has the knowledge to meet any expectation.

I had an excellent half day tour of Tokyo! Meg is an outstanding private guide, who communicated with me before the tour about what I wanted to see and was very flexible with time. Meg is very knowledgeable on all topics from history to food and adapted the tour as it unfolded to cover more of my interests. Using the Tokyo subway for transport was quick and easy and is a great way to see the city. I highly recommend this tour!

My wife and I had the absolute pleasure of spending a day with Yoko as our private guide in Tokyo. She's nothing short of amazing! Since we've visited Tokyo before, she skipped the typical tourist spots and curated an itinerary focused on our love for food and traditional crafts.
We visited incredible artisans – a washi paper maker, a shop specializing in Japanese scissors, a fan maker, a Japanese cut glass store, and more. Between stops, Yoko introduced us to delightful traditional snack shops. She made a special suggestion to see a nearby temple known for its plum blossoms which were a perfect addition to our day.
The day before the tour, I injured my knee, and Yoko went above and beyond to make adjustments, reducing walking and even finding elevators whenever possible.
Yoko's extensive knowledge of Japanese culture and history shone through, and she shared fascinating tidbits throughout the day. She even taught us how to navigate the subway maps and the screens inside the subway cars! Plus, she wrote down the names of all of the places we visited and suggested other spots to explore during our trip.
We highly recommend Yoko for a truly personalized and authentic tour of Tokyo!

Thank you very much for the great review.! I’m glad to know that you enjoyed this really specially customized tour. Although it was raining, it was a good day for visiting those shops and Yushima Tenmangu Shrine for plum blossom viewing. If I have another chance, I’d like to show the western suburbs of Tokyo, where Ghibli museum is and several other beautiful sites.
Looking forward to seeing you again.

Yoko T.

Had we been left to our own devices, we would have been horribly lost and frustrated. Instead, Mitch gave us a tour of a lifetime. Personalizing our interests made the trip rich and engaging. We felt like we really got to experience the flavor of the city, and experienced both traditional and modern elements. Mitch was flexible, patient, kind, and informative. His knowledge and side bar stories made the sites come to life. We were so grateful to have him with us! The highlights for us were the Meiji Jingu Shinto Shrine
Takeshita Street in Harajuku, Shibuya Crossing, the view from Asakusa Tourist Center, and Sensoji Buddhist Temple. The culinary experiences were exceptional! We loved our okonomiyaki lunch, the stop for Boba, and the taiyaki cake. He helped us take advantage of very authentic dining experiences. We would definitely hire this company if we ever make it back to Japan.

Toyo San reached out weeks in advance to customize our tour. We began our tour with a pleasant chat about the history of Tokyo. He was very responsive, attentive, and flexible to our needs and he adjusted our itinerary to suit them. He also explained to us how to navigate the train/subway systems.
What a great day exploring the beautiful gems in Tokyo, eating delicious snacks and enjoying the company of our guide. Highly recommend.

I will never forget how happy he was to draw a lucky omikuji fortune in Asakusa. I was also happy that you were pleased with the sushi at Tsukiji. I hope my guide was useful for your subsequent trips. I look forward to seeing you again.

This was a private tour for the two of us. Our guide picked us up at our hotel. She spoke English very well. We did a lot of walking. We did take public transportation when necessary and our guide paid for it.
We arrived in Tokyo very early in the morning and we contacted the guide for a later start so we could rest. She accommodated us and gave us a full day tour.
Our tour included some dining and a great overview of all Tokyo has to offer.

We will be staying at the New Sanno Hotel and it is not on the list. Can we be picked up there? Can the half day tour start at 12:30 pm or 1pm on a Tuesday? Thank you!

It is best to check it out with the private tour provider. We met our tour guides at Ueno station. We use public transport which is cheaper, and our tour itinerary is customised according to our preference with input fr our tour guides of course.

A few questions please.
1. We will be staying at the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa. Do you offer pick up and drop off from there?
2. Can the Sky tree ( and going up to the observation deck) be included in the tour?......while still including the fish market?
3. English speaking guides?
4 A lunch stop included along the way?... my wife is diabetic and needs to eat about noon.
Thank you for your time.

I am not sure about the Sky tree. Best to inquire directly with the guide. Lunch is included and the guide speaks English

Good Morning Private Custom Tours, I am interested in a 4 to 6 hour tour between my transfer from a local airport to the international airport. I noticed that pickup and drop off are to the same place. Are there any variations to that policy? Thank you in advance, Becca Anderson

I notice the price says $129 per person but when I put in my actual date options, it is 3 times that price. What is driving the cost up, we are a party of two. Thanks
