- astridmex0 contributionsGreat permanent exhibitionWe were delighted with the permanent exhibition on the story of Solidarność. It was a great insight to everything that occurred during that time. On the other hand, the temporary exhibition on the shipyard itself was tedious. The audio guide went on describing every single piece of memorabilia at great length, which seemed superfluous and considerably increased the duration of this part. If you can get a plushie of Lech, please do!Written 1 October 2023

Mr. Shuttle provides a useful shuttle service from Gdańsk (via the Musement web site) to the concentration camp. Musement are very responsive and helpful: they promptly agreed to move the date of my tour when my plans changed and I was promptly refunded when the operator cancelled my tour due to lack of numbers. You also get a reminder of your tour along with them resending your voucher the day before which is a nice touch.
I only found out the evening before that my tour was cancelled via SMS from Mr. Shuttle. I texted back asking if there were confirmed departures on other dates, and was able to visit on another day. But be aware that if your time in Gdańsk is limited and you have booked other activities, that your tour of the camp might be cancelled last minute. In that case, you can Uber to the camp for about $45 (45 minute drive) and ask the driver to wait for you for about two hours as there are no taxis or public transportation near the camp.
Note too that while the tour is advertised to leave from the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre at 9 AM, with free pick up offered at your hotel between 8-9 AM, if you opt to be picked up at the Shakespeare Theatre starting point, pick up is at 8 AM and the driver then goes and picks up other pax at their hotels. As you are the first in the minibus, you will be asked to sit in the more uncomfortable back seats to make room for the guests being picked up at the hotels. I felt pretty silly having opted to be picked up at the default pick up spot thinking I would get a bit more sleep, only to find the minibus pulling up at my hotel to pick up other guests after me!
I therefore recommend that you ask to be picked up at your hotel when making the booking. (Enter hotel name in booking). Mr. Shuttle will advise you by SMS the afternoon the day before your tour what time they are picking you up at your hotel.
This tour includes a two hour comprehensive visit of the camp in English. They aim to be at the camp by 9 AM for the start of the tour. Marek, the English speaking camp guide, has a wealth of information about the camp and his English is decent. Note that without a guide you won’t learn as much as most of the exhibits are in Polish only.
You will be back in Gdańsk at about 12 PM.
Mr. Shuttle should clarify the pick up times in Gdańsk and make clear that the tour of the camp departs at 9 AM at Stutthof and not in Gdańsk, but other than that, he provides a useful service to a camp that is not accessible via public transportation.

Stutthof camp is awesome. The silence here is almost oppressive. You see a photo of Goering stnding where you are. It is much smaller than Auswizch or Majdanek. The important thing to know is it is free entry. The car park costs £2 or £3 for the morning or afternoon. There are no refreshments there, but there are 2 sets of toilets. The gift shop only has books. They don't have many translations into English. You don't need to pay a guide. It is all rather obvioius, and you can manage perfectly without one. Allow a couple of hours to see it all. It is well worth the trip. We drove from Gdansk- about anhour in the car- lovely journey that takes in an ancient ferry across the Vistula just before it joins the Baltic. A memorable day out. Roger Daniells-Smith

Booked our tour of Stutthof Concentration Camp with this tour company, which from start to finish were first class. Booked online weeks before our visit and the booking process was straightforward and simple. Our driver Marek was ready promptly at our hotel at 9am as arranged. The journey from Gdansk was about 60 minutes, the car clean and air conditioned and Marek pointed out places of interest en route. He stayed with us until the moment we were passed into the safe hands of our guide who took us round both sites. The visit was emotional and upsetting at times, however I learned such a lot today and took an overriding memory away with me. Be mindful that there is a lot of walking on this tour,at points uneven surfaces. Cant recommend the tour company or tour enough..first class,5 star ..brilliant. Thank you so much.

On a friend's recommendation I booked the Stutthof tour while in the U.K. Our driver was punctual, friendly and took care of us once we arrived. Our tickets and tour were all organised. On our return we decided to ask about the food tour trip and booked that for the following day. Our driver for that trip was equally courteous and helpful. I felt it was well worth the cost to have all the hassle of booking and getting to these places removed. You do a lot of walking on both those tours so it is a treat to have a car and driver waiting to take you home.

The tour started with a friendly driver who picked us up outside our apartment promptly, driving us to Stutthof, where we were then ushered into an informational movie screening of the history of Stutthof (subtitles in english) (3Plz included in package).
After which we met our personal tour guide which brought us through all the exhibits, painstakingly translating all the main exhibits into english for us, and giving us other pieces of information to better understand the exhibits (that were not included in the exhibits themselves). Furthermore as there were few english signage in the actual exhibit itself, without the tour guide, we would have failed to understand the full extent of the incidents that happened there. The exhibits are preserved as much as possible, and helpful mini mockups of the original camp dotted along the way, making it easier to understand the scale of the atrocities that happened in Stutthof.
To my understanding, the museum and exhibits themselves are free to enter, and cameras are welcome to capture the exhibits, however if not fluent in polish, a speaking personal tour guide is very helpful. Speaking guides in other languages are also available.
The tour ended with the driver taking us back to central Gdansk. where he went out of his way to kindly show us to a restaurant serving polish cuisine, which we thoroughly enjoyed.
Recommended for teens and above. Young children might not be able to understand or might be frightened by the images.
It was observed that many big tour groups were also visiting, and might be a slightly cheaper alternative. But otherwise, this is a whole package and everything that was stated was well provided for.

We have chosen this tour with our friends and it was really good organised by explore Gdansk. Bus was waiting for us on time. The journey lasted about one hour and was comfortable and pleasant.
However, what we saw on the arrival it was a real shock. It's crazy place...
Anyway it's obviously to have a guide otherwise you won't understand this place. Our guide was knowledge and explained us everything what we wanted to know.
Truly recommend to visit this place and keep the memory of this tragedy.

There is possibility to go to the Stutthof museum by bus but we decided to book the tour with private transport and museum guide. I have to say that was a good decision. Everything was organise really well. The driver Mark was waiting under our hotel on time and immediately on arrival our guide has greeted us. The path to the Stutthof is very picturesque.
I would not recommend this museum visit for young children. When you arrive at the crematory, the gas chamber and the gallows, you cannot find the words to express what you are seeing. you simply have to sit down and reflect on the horrors of this place and inhumanity of man. We all need to be aware of what happened here and make sure it never happens again.

This tour was well done. The guide at Stutthof was very interesting and made you think about how this atrocity happened. Very insightful and thought provoking. I learned a lot more about the concentration camps and World War II. The only down side of the tour is that our driver did not speak a lot of English and we had an hour to the site and back from Gdansk. It would have been nice to know a little more about the area.
