- J3217FAchristopherd0 contributionsExcellent day visiting off-the-beaten path tourist spotsAkira-san was well prepared for the day's tour! It was well thought out and planned. We went to a nice izakaya for lunch too. Would definitely recommend Akira-san as your tour guide in the future. The taxi driver was great as well. Both were punctual.Written 5 February 2025

- sarahmD9997NY0 contributionsexcelllent personal 6 hour city touratsuko ando (An) our guide was great. we booked a 6 hour tour of Tokyo for our only day in the city. she contacted us before hand to ascertain our preferences and was prompt. the tour was excellent, she was very happy and quick to adapt to our requests, paced it very appropriately , she was informative and interesting but did not overbear us with a constant barrage of facts. Her english was excellent and she answered all our questions. She enabled us to see parts of tokyo that we would not otherwise have noticed or had access to. We would have no hesitation in recommending her as a guide.(JGA)Written 3 February 2025

We ended the tour to see entertaining districts with shops, restaurants and small traditional alley with small eateries. Taku had well preparred the tour and had informative information to show and tell. This gave a good understanding of how religion and history in Japan is.Written 3 February 2025

- timtO337NY0 contributionsThank you for a fantastic tour of Kyoto. Ookini! As we only had 3 days in Kyoto, we needed to ensure that this leg of the journey was done efficiently. There are other tour guide options on the list, but we opted for the one with a government-licensed guide (6 hours total, including transport to help us quickly navigate between the locations). The tour guide assigned to our tour was Kazu. Communication with him was fantastic from the start (he was fluent in English and reached out to help us plan the tour as soon as the tour was booked). He first asked us about places we would like to visit and the type of tour we wanted (Zen temples vs. modern history, etc.), and he suggested a couple of hidden-gem alternatives and time to spend in each location. He also sent us another e-mail 3 days before the tour to confirm the details again (in case there was a change of plan and we wanted to visit different locations) and re-confirm the time/ location where he would wait for us (which was our hotel lobby). On the day, he met us at 10:30am sharp and provided a quick 10 minutes of the background of the tour (significance of the locations) and the history of Kyoto. The handmade map that Kazu created was handy, too. After the prep, our driver came to pick us up. The car was spacious and clean, and the driver was professional. When we made our way to each destination, Kazu and the driver would discuss the routes to take (i.e., any roadblocks/ restrictions set by the city for the day), making sure to take us as close to the destination as possible. With their knowledge, we got to each location quickly and avoided many roads where one could be stuck in traffic for a long time. Every location was enriched with Kazu's knowledge. He knew which alleys to avoid the crowds and helped us navigate the various popular destinations. He also knew hidden-gems in each location, and his government-licensed pass also granted us special access to some of the extra rooms/ locations that were usually blocked off for other tourists. We could soak in the environment and not worry about photos since Kazu also took some great pictures for the group. We also really appreciated that although we covered four locations (plus lunch) in 6 hours, the tour didn't feel rushed. Kazu also taught us some Kansai-ben (dialect that is used in major cities of the Kansai region, i.e., "ookini"), and this went down well with many local shop owners/ restaurants (especially with the older generations) where we had a couple of them giving us extra freebies after hearing these Kansai-ben phrases. Overall, we have nothing but fantastic things to say about Kazu and the tour. It made the trip just that much better, and we strongly recommend it.Written 3 February 2025

- juditec20250 contributionsSuper Knowledgeable Guide Junichi! This was perhaps the best trip we did in Japan! The park is incredibly large and beautiful with all of its temple buildings and shrines! And of course, the ever-present deer made it all even more magical. The real highlight of the tour, however, was our guide Junichi! He’s a really enthusiastic and knowledgeable person. We definitely learned a lot with him and couldn’t be happier with this experience!Written 2 February 2025

He not only showed us sights of Tokyo and worked around what we had already experienced ourselves he was genuine and had a great sense of humour. We had an amazing trip to Nikko. We were asking a lot to do the shrines and the waterfalls in the same day but our guide, Yoshii, recommended we hire a car to make this possible. I’m glad we did as we only had the one day and it was great to see it all. We visited the shrines during the second half of the day, which was slightly rushed. Yoshii did a good job of adapting to our changes/ requests and we thoroughly enjoyed the day.

We had the most magnificent day with our guide, Michio, his experience navigating the rail systems in Tokyo city and out to Nikko on the Shinkansen evident right from the start. Michio was both personable and informative at every point of the day. A highlight for us was lunch in Nikko right beside Lake Chuzenji where handmade fresh soba noodles were made onsite and we chose to have them with local rainbow trout, grilled on hot coals. It was a meal we won't forget!
Michio guided us seamlessly to the ropeway, waterfalls, stunning river walk and imperial summer villa at all times mindful of any special requests we had and our comfort. Back in Tokyo at the end of the day Michio even suggested somewhere for dinner, another authentic Japanese experience. We are looking forward to having Michio guide us later in our Japanese stay in Yokohama he is that good. Thank you Michio!

I've been to Japan many times myself and have always wanted to take my parents to show them a bit of why I enjoyed visiting that country so frequently. This year, I was finally able to coax my parents to book a flight out to Japan with me. This was my first guided tour experience in Japan and I have to say that it was really well done especially considering that my group primarily consisted of senior citizens. Emi was very knowledgeable of the temples and shrines that we visited. I learned a lot more than I ever would have in just visiting Nikko and reading the placards on my own. I highly recommend this tour for those wanting to get some education out of their visit to Nikko!

Hi, thank you very much for joining the tour to Nikko!
I am glad to have the message from you.
It was a stunningly beautiful day and we had a wonderful time together!
Please remember the memory of that day to see the group photo with lots of sunshine.
Nikko means "a shiny sunny day" so I think you will never forget that day!
Hope to see you next time in Japan!

This is a full day tailored to your interest, time and the weather. Michio filled the day with engaging background of the region and discussion of Japan past and present. He is
well travelled and a man of broad knowledge and keen wit. The trip was well structured, leisurely, and we shared a great lunch.
At the end of the day I felt I had seen a significant part of Japanese history and had a better understanding of Japanese people.

My family had an unforgettable experience touring Nikko with Hiromi Murata on November 7, 2024. Nikko has beautiful and scenic landscape that will mesmerise you. It has a long and rich cultural history linked with historic figures of Japan.
Hiromi is a fantastic local guide who has an incredible depth of knowledge about Nikko. She truly helped us understand the finer details of this beautiful place – from its rich history and culture to its breathtaking landscapes and hidden gems. We highly recommend her.
Thank you, Hiromi, for a wonderful day in Nikko!

I really thank you for your review about my guiding your family around Nikko area. It was also a great
experience for me learning a lot about the importance of strong family ties. That gives me another encouragement
to exert my best and be of help to distinguished foreign guests, especially families traveling together, who
kindly chose Japan as tour destination.
Once again, with deepest gratitude to the comment, I wish you and your family continue exciting journey in
Japan. Minoru

What a wonderful day with Yumi Aoyama! She met us at the train station and had pre-purchased our bus passes so we could get right on the bus to the waterfalls. We went in the morning to avoid the rush and it worked out perfectly. We spent the rest of the day touring the shrines and temples. She knew the area well and was able to give us information about mant places as we walked around. It seemed like we were always just ahead of the crowds. She found us a traditional Japanese restaurant for lunch and the whole day was just perfect. She waited with us until we boarded our train. I am so glad we booked this tour! Yumi was an excellent guide.

Our guide was amazing. Very helpful from first contact via email, to meeting us at the hotel. We had some railway things to sort, and this was no problem. Our guide was knowledgeable and listened to our needs. He made connections with us and had great knowledge of all places we wanted to visit. His instruction for subway and other trains was invaluable! He helped us ollect temple and shrine stamps which we will treasure forever. I pai tō rā. It was a wonderful day. Ngā mihi nui (many thanks and much kindness)

Hi, I am not clear about whether this private tour from Tokyo to Nikko includes the transport cost from Tokyo to Nikko return? Or does the additional cost pp only include the guide meeting us in Tokyo and assisting with transport arrangements?

Hi, there. We are a group of 4 interested about this tour, however, before we decide, just a few questions. Hope to hear from you soon so we can decide whether or not to book.
1. There are a lot of 'Not Included' items in the list. Please list down each additional payment per person that is needed i.e. entry fees and all other additional costs to the different places so we can manage our budgets for this. I understand that we need to pay for the tour guide as well?
2. We are staying at Asakusa, so for the drop off, we would like to be dropped off at our hotel at Asakusa. Is that fine with you?
Look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.
