Itinerary

Sumo wrestling has been a mainstay of Japanese sports for more than a millennium. While public matches make for great viewing, you’ll go a step further during this one-of-a-kind, behind-the-scenes adventure, which matches you with a real-life sumo wrestler for your own head-to-head combat session.

Perfect for adventure-seekers, or any tourists in search of the perfect travel story, the tour begins with a presentation on the history of sumo and an in-depth explanation of a few key wrestling techniques. You’ll observe three bona fide sumo matches before donning your own costume and entering the ring. Get a chance to pose for souvenir photos and train like an authentic sumo wrestler using the steps you’ve learned. Next, you’ll get paired with a wrestling veteran, who you’ll go toe-to-toe with in a public battle.

After working up an appetite, relax with authentic, savory sumo fare, including chanko nabe, a type of rich, calorie-heavy Japanese hot pot, which will be cooked and prepared by former wrestlers.

Great fun! Good for kids!

We visited with our 3 children, aged 11, 14 & 16. This was a great experience! It's very casual and friendly. The sumo demonstration was informative but done in a very entertaining way. Kids will really enjoy this experience. Adults will too! The lunch afterwards...More

Awesome experience!

This was by far the best thing we did while in Japan! Definitely book beforehand and arrive early to get a seat near the front. There is a sign out the front of the restaurant where it is held, but it was difficult to find...More

Worth seeing to feel more connected to sumo. A bit pricey.

I will say this was a bit pricey but I would recommend for people interested in learning a bit more about sumo and it is entertaining. It’s definitely geared toward tourists - which is as it should be. But it’s a larger group than I...More

Good fun for family

The wrestlers were generous with their time, staying around to answer many questions and pictures with everyone after their demonstration and were willing to challenge all the guests who wanted to have a go (about 10 people). They really made it a fun experience for...More
