Albuquerque is dubbed the, "Sevilla of North America" for one reason. Flamenco. Famous Flamenco dancers, Flamenco dance companies, musicians and study are as prominent here as in any other city in Andalucia, Spain. The most famous Flamenco dancer in America, Jesus Muñoz, lives in Albuquerque, NM. The National Conservatory of Flamenco resides in downtown Albuquerque and hosts an amazing annual Flamenco Festival. A "Flamenco-haven" for professional artists, daily training and world-class workshops are usually held at the Casa Flamenca, in mid-town Albuquerque. The University of New Mexico holds a four year degree program and a Masters degree in Flamenco dance. If you are new to Albuquerque, you must check out the Flamenco scene. It is an absolute must! The events are usually held at a number of theatres in town or at the schools themselves, University of New Mexico, National Institute of Flamenco and Casa Flamenca.
