The region around Jackson, New Hampshire was settled in the late 18th century, and is home to numerous to grand hotels in the surrounding villages, as well as early 19th century steeple churches and a variety of old farm houses, many of which serve as bed and breakfast inns today.
The Jackson Historical Society Web site lists numerous historic sites around the area, including the famous Jackson Covered Bridge, which was built in 1876 and remains one of the most photographed structures in the region. Renovated, and well maintained, the bridge continues to serve the surrounding community to this day!
The town is also home to some very unique buildings as well, including the magnificent 19th-century three-story Wentworth Castle. Built in 1891, this private residence, which is currently for sale, can be seen from the road and looks like a European chateau!The area of around Jackson is home to numerous historic sites and attractions. One of the original structures on the nearby Mountain Washington is the Tip Top House, a stone hotel that was built in the summer of 1853. This simple stone building features a wooden extension, which dates to the early 1900s to replace a larger hotel that had been on the site. Open to visitors, this building was fully restored in 1987, and resembles the original house that was built on the site, and today it remains the oldest mountaintop hostelry in the world.
