Kodaikanal is basically rich in natural beauty. It has a quiet, serene beauty to it and a calm ambience. It's not really a hot spot for night life or adventure tourism. It's basically great for a quiet honeymoon or family outing. The population here mostly speaks tamil and you might find a sprinkling of people from all over the world (like Tibet/europe) because of the schools, colleges and missionary institutions.  You can usually communicate in Englist and Hindi without a lot of problems.

There is no single winner among the attractions here but there are a lot of trekking trails, waterfalls and lakes to enjoy.  The silver cascade falls, the bear Shola falls and Fairy falls are beautiful. Silver cascade falls is just on the outskirts of kodai when you drive by road from kodaikanal road/palani.  Most of the falls are not dangerous and you can probably walk up to the middle of the flowing water and get your picture taken. There are small trekking trails near all the falls, though you probably need a local guide to tell you better.

The kodai lake is man made and has a concrete outline almost all along it's perimeter. It's fun to walk or cycle around the lake. Bicycles are available on hire near the lake for around 10 Rs for one go around the lake (it's quite a bit of distance).  You can also hire a paddle boat or shikara to enjoy the lake. It's quite affordable but it gets crowded on sundays and holidays.

The dolphin's nose is a nice small trek (1 - 2 kms). Though it is definitely not an easy walk and gets steep at places, but the view's breathtaking. I was told that there are spots in this area where a lot of international tourists gather, probably enjoying some quite camping away from the crowd. It's mostly forests and mountain trails around this place.

Berijam lake is one of the nice places to travel to around Kodaikanal. You can stop at the Silent valley & Caps fly valley on the way, both of which offer great views of the mountains below & around covered with green trees.  By the way, you need to tell you agent a day in advance to get the proper permissions for you to enter the forests where Berijam lake is. Berijam lake itself is a very nice and quiet offering beautiful views.
