In the early 1920s, the railway made Hua Hin easily accessible from Bangkok and turned the area into a popular retreat. The impressive Railway Hotel was constructed by the State Railway Authority in 1923, and the first public
was built in 1924. A few years later, King Rama VII added the Klai Kangwon Palace on the beach, just north of the Railway Hotel. Today, the Palace is still the official royal residence, and is open for public visits.
