Kiev, Ukraine experiences all four seasons. It generally has very cold winters and its summer temperatures can sometimes get very hot, especially during July and August. The average winter time temperature in Kiev is in the 20's, while in the summer months the city's temperatures average in the 80's. Kiev gets a fair amount of rainfall all year long, but its rainiest months are during the summer. July and August are the city's wettest months with the average amount of rainfall coming in at around 100 centimeters for each month.
Most visitors come to Ukraine and Kiev during the spring and summer because of the winter's cold temperatures. However, in recent years, since the fall of the Soviet Union, the country has become known for its winter sports, most namely ice skating, with several top Olympic skaters calling it home.
