Located in South America the climate in Bolivia is reversed, with winter being from June to September, and summer lasting from December until March. But despite this fact the weather is pretty consistent year round in La Paz, and is generally quite cool no matter what time of the year you head there.

In fact the late winter through spring, which is from September through December is typically the warmest time of the year, but it can be quite wet. The high Andes make the weather somewhat unusual, so temperatures can range into the low 60s in late September, yet only a few weeks earlier there is still the chance of snow.

Of course it doesn’t snow often in La Paz, and even in “winter,” from June through September daytime temperatures typically reach into the upper 50s during the day, and fall to the low 40s at night. It seldom ever freezes in this high mountain region, and winters tend to be the dry season.

Summer is much different, but from December through March is the rainy season, sometimes with non-stop rain for days, or even weeks at a time.

The best time to visit is from the late fall to early spring. But in the mountains it always feels like a crisp fall day. Be sure to pack a jacket for the day, and consider a warm coat if you’re hitting the town after dark.
