Occasionally wonder if some reviewers are actually in the same hotel...
The one problem about this place which we (almost) all agree about is the dreaded car park. Answer, like we did, come in a small car - no problem, but oh yes its TIGHT, as witness the assorted decorations at about car height on the white painted colums. Also it's down a very steep entrance ramp, and the lights go out on a timer - you can press buttons to switch them back on though. I would think trying to park in the roads would be a lot of fun in the busy season.
That apart though, it's one of the best-run chain hotels we have stayed in. We had a good sized room, not that recently refurbished but perfectly smart and clean and everything worked. Didn't book a sea view or expect one but there it was, albeit over rooftops. Yes there were steps, indeed a bit of a climb from the esplanade and town level, but thats because of its clifftop position, and there's a handy stairway right onto the esplanade.
Don't understand the person moaning about breakfast, unless they were expecting steak and chips...it's a pretty standard assortment with a good varity of bread, croissants etc, jams and marmalade, cheeses and cold meats, various things in pots, cereals, teas, coffees, fruit, usually some scrambled egg, bacon and sausages, and various other bits and bobs I can't even remember,
all in a "room with a view", a sort of clifftop conservatory with superb sea views.
The hotel manager is a hard-working, charming and elegant French lady, who was always happy to assist and advise.
Even Granville was better than we expected after reading some lukewarm reviews, pleasant bay and esplanade with a busy sort of central square near the hotel and the Casino, . There are loads of decent restaurants, including the Casino's own and a historic high "old town" with even more restaurants There was plenty going on when we were there including food festivals and a stunning firework display in the bay. It might, however get a bit congested traffic-wise in peak season. The hotel car park and back-road access makes sense if you can put up with it. Would be more than 4 stars but for the car park, and no aircon so the rooms were pretty warm at night even with the balcony doors open a bit.
