“Pleasant hotel with a warm welcome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

We had a couple of nights to pass before our ferry from Cherbourg, so we chose the other side of the Cherbourg peninsula and Granville, as we had not been to that side before. We had a very nice stay in a seaside area, at a pleasant hotel which lived up to the Mercure standard. The receptionist couldn't have been more helpful in moving us from a double to a triple (we had a small child with us but couldn't book a triple online). I believe the doubles are a little on the small side but the triple was excellent for a family. The buffet breakfast was a little pricey but good value for those able to take advantage of it. Apparently, they can pick up UK tv when the weather is good, but it wasn't that great when we were there !

The only negative is the underground parking is t-t-t-t-tight, and if you are of a nervous disposition, do not try parking down there.

Room Tip: Triple rooms are quite spacious

“Climb a cliff and get a glimpse of the sea”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2011

My "average" rating for the location of this hotel is not really fair - there is a marvellous sea view from the breakfast room and we got a glimpse from our room but it is very hard to find by car. Better street signage would be helpful. Parking the car was a real driving test!

“Best surprise of our holiday”

Booked one nights stay as we travelled back towards the port & was so pleasantly surprised we wished we were staying longer. Yes the hotel was difficult to find but once there the views were amazing. The staff were so friendly & gave us a room upgrade. My husband & I were given a duplex with stunning view of the sea & our single friend luxuriated in a huge double room. The rooms were clean, even had tea/coffe making facilities (very rare), the TV choices included all UK channels due to the proximity of the Channel Islands. One criticism about our room was a separate toilet & a smallish bathroom but this was offset by the extra bed/sofa downstairs & balcony bedroom.
The bar/breakfast room overlooked the sea as did the outside terrace but that was not used as it was too windy.
The underground car park was very tight-we find this all the time in French hotels!!!
There is a lift to the car park & also the beach.
Breakfast was good, ample choice-even bacon & scrambled eggs provided.
Two restaurants were recommended by Reception & they were a bit of a walk away in the port. Sadly the better of the two did not open on Wednesdays but the other was OK.
The only down side was the walk back up the hill to the hotel! Very steep.
Overall I have to recommend this hotel & would love to return to explore Granville as it looked like a "proper" seaside resort with plenty of shops & bars.

“Great location, good views, nice staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2011

The hotel can proove tricky to find due to Granville's one way system, just keep heading down hill into the centre. Once faced with the casino turn right uphill and then up the steep ramp on the left (signposted Mercure). Underground parking is 7 euros per night, with lifts direct to the rooms. The hotel provided comfortable clean rooms with a good breakfast. The staff spoke English and were very professional and friendly. From the lift you can access the beach and promenade with excellent views.
Granville itself was a very intresting town and the locals were really friendly, well worth a visit.
