We have just arrived back from teh Hotel Monachus Park, and I would generally have to agree with previous reviews about the hotel, that it is exceptionally clean, and all of the hotels amenties including the excellent animation team go along way to make your stay enjoyable. So on thewhole we had an ejoyable stay, but would like to bring a few things to your attention before you travel that may or may not effect your decision to book this hotel:
1. Yes the clientel are mostly German, but like previous reviews we did not have any issues with any of them, but you do generally feel the odd one's out about the place.
2. The food is very good and cooked to a high standard with pleny of choice, and with most all inclusive hotels you do get bored occassionally with the same type of meal. Alhough they did have a couple of gala evenings during our 14night stay with large meat roasts etc, I feel a 5 star hotel should have this choice more often instead of the main meat choice being fried Kofta's (meat patties)
3. The restaurant and the hotel on a whole has a phobia to giving out bottled water. The waiters are obviously trained only to give 1 large bottle too share per table, you may be able to sneak some mor, but it becomes a rediculous activity, but remember it is 38 degrees in the day, and a cool 25 degrees at night and the ability to have a good swig of safe drinkingn water at any time you chose should be a no brainer, instead you have to pay over the top at the on site shop or use water dispensers located by the pool or in the restaurant, which could be any type of water, again not what you expect of a so called 5 star hotel. Also, most hotels that I have stopped at that call themselves All inclusive have some sort of snacks available to you 24:7 in between main meal hours eg a sandwich, chips or an ice cream etc instead this hotel offered a slice of cake or a piece of fruit hidden away at another part of the hotel and ice creamwa handed out like a soup kitchen between 4:00 and 4:30 which is of no use when you children are asking for an ice cream at 11:00 in the morning (they are on holiday you know)
4. On the subject of drinks, if you do like a drink on your holidays (which most of us do to be honest) it would be nice to get a half decent drink, especially as you have paid for it upfront. The draught beer served up was the worst beer I have ever been served in a hotel abroad it was flat and basically undrinkable. The local spriits that they serve gin, vodka, and brandy once mixed with cola, tonic or lemonade rendered your drink flat (I am no chemistry expert, but something wasn't right). We came back only being tipsy twice at our own expense by visiting a local bar and paying for the drinks ourselves at all the new Turkish prices in readiness of entering the euro, which we were very surprised about, as an Efes would cost you £2.50 - £3.00 and a longdrink £4.00 - £5.00 and a cocktail upto £8.00. One night after a busy day at the hospital (which I will come to later) I thought I would treat our party to a much wlcomed decent drink, so I asked for teh Cocktail menu, which you have to pay extra for. I ordered 4 cocktails at a total cost of 20 euro (nearly 20 pounds) and they were little more that a fruit juice. At this point I tried to voice my concern to the managemnt, but unfortunateley all of your efforts fall on deaf ears, and I even refused to pay, but the customer is not always right at this hotel, and had to pay up on departure.
5. All of our party had some sort of virus or bug during our stay, including both of the small children in our party, requiring 3 visits to the local hospital, which ocbviously comes at a heafty price, albeit refundable through the insurance. Now I think it was mainly due to teh high temperatures and over use of teh air conditioning in the rooms, but is very worrying when you have small children in a foreign country, butwe were not teh only party who had sick children as a party we metup with the girl had acute infection of which my wife and eldest son had similiar, but not as severe.
Again I would agree with most of the reviews surrounding the hotel on the website, but felt very strongly on the above observations/experiences and thought I would share them with you.
My final parting statement would be it is a 4 or 5 star hotel in the making, but some of the services surrounding food and drink let it down somewhat, there is a row of shops and a couple of bars in close visinity, but apart from that you need to head into Side 10 minutes in a cab or dolmus for any other change of scenary.
There are plenty of other hotels to choose from in the world I would definatley not feel the need to return.
