“Holiday from Hell”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2010

We arrived the Hotel at 4am to be met by a non english speaking man who completed our registration form on a table outside near the pool. We later found out that this was because there are no public rooms at all. We were then shown to our room at the top of 3 sets of very steep steps. First impressions was very basic but adequate for our needs; until we discovered that we had been provided a double bed with single bed linen. Too tired to go back down the stairs we found a blanket in the wardrobe and turned in the for the night. We woke a few hours later at 9am to find no hot water for a shower and went down for breakfast to find nothing left and were not offered anything by the manageress. We were advised that the water would be hot by 10am as it was heated by solar power.

We returned to our room as advised to find the water still stone cold.

As we were now very hungry we decided to take the local bus to Turgutreis 8km away where we found a number of reasonable restaurants. After spending a very pleasant day at Turgutreis we returned to our hotel and asked the waiter for the menu as we had booked on a half board basis. We were shown the a la carte menu and advised that if we didnt want to pay extra for this we would only be offered meatballs.

At this point i asked to speak with the manager who was sitting in the room they described as the restaurant playing cards with her friends.

We were advised that she could not afford to provide hot water as the hotel was reliant on the solar system and would only turn the boiler on in the event the weather failed to supply the required hot water.
She went on to admit that she could not afford to provide meals for us and expected us to choose from the a la carte menu and pay extra for this.

We were horrified to be told that she would only provide hot water from 7pm and dinner from 8pm in an attempt to force guests to stay at the hotel in the evening and spend money.

From this point on our stay went from bad to worse:-

Eaten alive by mosquitoes in the restraurant.
Hotel ran out of beer and vodka, the only drinks offered.
Hot water rarely provided despite assurances
waiter constantly helped himself to guests cigarettes without permission.
Kitchen and food areas filthy
On our last night at the hotel we returned to our room to find the cleaners had at last changed our bed linen for suitable double bed linen and had provided an envelope on the bed marked 'TIPS PLEASE'
On departure we were presented with a bill for drinks that we had not ordered or received.

In summary we would not hesitate to say that Sunny Garden Nilufer is the worst Hotel we have ever stayed in any where in the world.

Our advise would be DO NOT STAY IN THIS TERRIBLE PLACE

“I would never reccommend neither would I ever go back”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2010

Me and my partner booked sunny gardens for 14 nights, when we got there at 6am we went to walk into "reception" and it was locked...after milling about for a few mins we heard some snoring coming from the kitchen, we went in and found someone fast assleep, we had to wake up and when he woke he never apologised or welcomed us just asked simply "passports" and showed us to our room, we booked a sea view room.... we got a pool view, (nothing id normally complain about if the rest was all well and good) went to the pool for a chilled day and i admit it was just that chilled out, the prices they charge at their bar are discusting and I cant believe anyone would be happy with them, they charged £1.70 a can of drink and over £5 for a bottle of small beer. (normal prices are roughly 60p a can and £2 a pint not bottle) There is nothing nearby at all apart from the supermarket but dont go thinking you will be ok to bring things back as they will challenge you. We tried to give it a chance but both going into turgutreis and bodrum, bodrum took us a good 45 mins on the bus and ten gbp there and back, and when we got there no one was english (im all for a different culture but i do like to ask where things are if need be but you couldnt) myself or my partner are not fussy and I do know that you get what you pay for but this was just horrendous. When we went to turgutreis it was the same again not a lot going on and very very little english spoken, however once we found the resturants we thought we may be ok but after a man coming to give us his menu i noticed his filthy nails and blood stained face.... we tried to give it a chance but it failed and we never stayed after that we went to another resort 4 hours away, that is how much we disliked this hotel, before we went i asked the man at the hotel if he could call our rep but he said no he wouldnt as he would only try and sell us a trip when he could do that anyway. I never ate at the hotel or anywhere in turgutreis or bodrum mainly due to my comment above and not being able to find anything within local reach, i dont mind a 30 minute walk but there was nowhere apart from 3 turkish speaking / menus on the "beach" also i heard a woman say that eating there in the evening was the worst meal she had had in turkey wwhich did put me up. I am in the process of getting my money back as I feel i was totally misold this holiday, if you are into 100% another culture and not too much to do then this is the place for you but for us it was the 2 days from hell. I would not reccommend and if you want to ask any questions please email me and ill be more than happy, if you have booked this hotel i would seriously think about changing, it will be money well spent.
I have read negative comments in the past about hotels and thought it was just people maybe being fussy but i didnt pay for the hilton so i didnt expect the hilton but i did want somewhere decent where i could dine out and have the hotel staff at least being polite to me.

Dear Madam,

my security staff doesnt know english. their major job to save and security in the night time.
sorry for him not to talk you.
also there is no chair in the kitchen to sleep.
we sell 1 beer with 5TL, not 5gbp
i think you missunderstand.
when we receive your reservation from agencies, we never promise sea view or land view. your reservations comes only with request. if we able to do it we do it.
we have many restaurants ( min. 10 ) in karaincir beach. if one of them bad other must be good.
if you didint even try dinner here how you can know our meals are bad or good.
every october, this area become more quiter because tourism season is get more down.
if some one would like to have quite holidays we are more suitable for that kind people.
we never advart, that we have animation, or entertainment hotel.
unfortunately peopla are not serach instead of price , locations.
we sold our rooms with 3gbp for 2 people inc breakfast per day.
so you like the price and choice us. i wish people have a look before they come what they will have with this price.
i was all the time at the hotel. if you like to come to me i would help you to change your hotel / for any kind of request or i could help you find a rep who can help.

“JUST TOO QUIET WITH NO ATMOSPHERE”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2010

Just back from this holiday, we booked it knowing that it was quite area, but I did not know that the area was asleep. Nothing to do here, even the beach area is poor, very costly as well 6lr for a bottle of effes lager. The food in the hotel was very basic and we had to eat out most nights even though we were half board. Good job the hotel is not expensive. The manager never spoke to us after we booked in, only seen her when she chased the cats away form the terrance area. We like to go on holiday and mingle with other holiday makers but there was only about 6 people here at the time we were there. The staff are a mixed bunch, sometimes good other times bad, I had to ask for service to get a drink as nobody work the bar. The best place was Turgetries next town along the road. 10 mins by 'bus' this is more like a holiday resort, we should have gone there. plenty to see and do, market on a saturday is good if you can put up the traders calling you all kinds of names to get you to buy.
I general we would say that if you want a VILLA style break book Sunny Garden, if you like a more upbeat break go to main resorts around , REMEMBER NO ATMOSPHERE HERE, sorry

“Great Location - Poor service.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2010

Just spent ten nights at Sunny Garden Nilufer Hotel on a half board basis.
Food was very poor gave up eating there after four nights,so would advise everyone to book bed and breakfast although the breakfast was not great and the plates were all chipped and cutlery not always as clean as it could be. The service was pretty non existent really-not sure if this was because it is near the end of the season and the hotel was pretty quiet. Room was quite big but no drawers to put anything in had air con but no fridge as they do not want you to take any food or drinks in to the hotel that has not been purchased there, the pool is lovely but not used much by anyone whilst we were there possibly due to the fact that there was no atmosphere in the place. The hotel is really very pretty and so much more could be made of it. Loved the location as it remains very Turkish, the beach is great with all the facilities that are needed. If you want night life you need to get on one of the very frequent buses that pass right outside the hotel to go to Turgetreis or Bodrum. To sum up I would say it is not the place to go if you want everything on the doorstep as there is not much going on but if you like to be in a location that has a good beach with authentic Turkish restaurants near by and don't mind basic accommodation then its the place for you.

“Shame about the manageress”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2010

The Hotel ground was in a beautiful area, with the dolmus stops outside for easy transport to Turgutreis and Bodrum. It could have been a good holiday but, we paid for 3 ADULTS and there was only a double bed and a settee in the suite which was converted into a make-shift bed which is a bit of con. Having made numerous complaints about this to the staff nothing was done about it. The food was average and quite repetitive. The bar prices for snacks and drinks within the day were also very expensive. The manageress is constantly smiling but don't be fooled into thinking she was there to help make your stay a pleasurable one. She made it clear to one guest that they had found food and drink in the room which was purchased outside and that was not allowed. I also came to have a confrontation with her on the last day when I approached her with regards to my hearing that I could keep the room after 12.00PM. Which is when it should be vacated and was true if I paid 10.00TL I would be able to stay till 3.00PM when the taxi arrives to pick us up. She led me to believe this was correct and asked for my room number. Later on when I went to pay her that afternoon she wanted 25.00TL and told me no such agreement was made. I reluctantly paid her and asked for a receipt. She then had the cheek to waffle on that she hoped that we had enjoyed our stay at her hotel and that would come again in the near future. I was honest enough to tell her that I was not impressed with her management skills and I would not be recommending her hotel to anybody. She suddenly changed and started shouting telling me to shut up and that I had no right to criticise her hotel management skills. I went on to tell her that she must have missed out on her customer service course as it was non existent which made her lose it even more. By this time another male member of staff came to see what the commotion was about. Telling her to get a hold of herself because by this time some hotel guests are witnessing the whole affair. She went on to tell me now that I have paid my bill to get lost from her hotel. I told her I will gladly leave when I got my receipt and went on my way. Looking back now, it was worth the 25.00TL just to see her lose it like that.
