“A great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We really enjoyed our stay here and the food was excellent and reasonably priced. We found all the staff very helpful and friendly. It was cooler than anywhere else in Costa Rica but we had expected this. The room was clean and comfortable. The only downside was that we only stayed one night and would have liked longer to fully explore the well marked trails.

“Nice stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

Stayed here for 2 nights on our tour of Costa Rica. Basic accommodation but clean and comfortable. Nice restaurant with good food and service. A little way out of town but only a reasonably priced taxi ride away. Enjoyable treks through the rainforest in the grounds of the Lodge, including a guided one at night where we saw a Red-kneed Tarantula and an owl amongst other things. Hummingbird feeders outside the restaurant windows attracted numerous and colourful, hummingbirds. The trip to the Monteverde Cludforest was interesting but not spectacular, apart from the dozens of hummingbirds on the feeders near to the entrance to the park.

“Bitter-sweet”

I have mixed reviews about this place. The area and trails on the property are terrific!!! When we first got there we were turned off by the receptionist, who was pretty rude. It got better when a new person came on board a couple of days after. The room was very dark, and extremely cold. There was no heating and all night long we experienced a draft coming in through the windows (which wouldn't close entirely). Also, the mattress were very hard (it felt like a cement floor). The restaurant is nice, the food okay, and the staff friendly and provided good service.

Room Tip: Even when one would expect it to be cold, be ready for a not very pleasant experience due to how col...

“Beautiful sunset views!”

Based on some of the reviews I've read I was scared that it would be a disappointment and I was not at all unhappy with my stay here. I really enjoyed the restaurant food - it's reasonably priced, bar was big enough to quench my thirst and staff was great. I found no bugs in our rooms and we had no problems with wifi, even in our room. The individual cabins were very clean and comfortable. It was very windy during our stay, but it didn't bother me and kind of sounded like waves. It's a bit remote, but only a six dollar taxi ride into town.

“Bad experience.”

It was 11 deg Celsius outside, raining with much wind. Fine, but the Bungalows had no heating and there was a draft from the wind in the whole room as there were many chinks in the wood of the bungalow rooms. Probably also the reason why so many insects, gekkos and whatever were inside...

From the bungalows to the restaurant/reception you have to cross a muddy parking side. Admittedly better than the road to the hotel, which is full of pottholes. So, you better come with a 4x4, although some others had a standard car and managed to reach the reception.

Good is probably the hotel-forrest and the guided tours. But it was raining like crazy, so we left this place w/o having seen anything but this bungalow and its "pets".

By the way, also on our brakfast table, 2 exotic beetles were sitting and waiting for food....

Room Tip: take another hotel
