“Wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

Heaven on earth........describes Cabanas Valle Campanas. The owner, Reina, is delightful, oh so mellow and friendly as well as helpful in planning excursions. Her breakfasts are fantastico! The grounds and calm vibe of the place allowed us to relax relax and relax. The plants and flowers on the grounds are beautiful as are the views from the patio.
Our little house had everything we needed for our short, 2 day stay. We didn't want to go! Thank you Reina! Pura Vida indeed!

“Loved this place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

As all of the other guests have noted, Reina is a charming and gracious host; she took the time to give us a full tour of the working farm and let us press some sugar cane for fresh juice. We got to see the resident (wild) sloth and the couple of pacas (large native rodents) that they keep on the property--and tons of beautiful birds including the mata that visits the trees surrounding the cabins frequently.

The cabin we stayed in was on the small side but plenty big enough for two; a kitchen and seating area downstairs and a full/queen size bed in an upstairs loft with a bathroom. If you plan to cook, be sure to know that bowls/plates/cutlery are in short supply, but we made do with what was available and a couple of old yogurt containers. However, if you are staying more than a day or two you should make note...

Monteverde is worth the grueling trip to get there--we too wish we had spent more of our vacation exploring the forest and the small towns of Santa Elena and Monteverde itself. The cabins are a little out of the way, but happily so for the tranquility and peacefulness you will find at Cabanas Valle Campanas.

“Warm and friendly hosts that will go above and beyond”

My wife and I, along with our seven your old son, spent two wonderful weeks in Costa Rica. Most of it was on the beach, not enough of it was in Arenal and Monteverde. Monetverde was truely the highlight of our trip, and much of this was thanks to Reina and Leo, our wonderful hosts who were amzaing, gracious, generous and patient. Our seven year old hit it off with their little one in no time. The hospitality, location, food, in house shuttle/taxi service from Leo really made for a relaxed, easy and comfortable stay in Monteverde. Their place is clean and very well cared for. The cabanas are well situated to give you privacy and nice views. All their recommendations were spot on when it came to activites, tours and planning.

Not to be missed...night hike, butterfly garden---especially if you have kids that enjoy insects, Monteverde Park Reserve. The only disappointment withe the latter was the lack of animal sightings when we were there in July. Very few birds or mammals. We were told that mating season is best if you wish to see more activity but it was definitely still a worth the visit.

We honestly wished that we had spent more time in Monteverde, mostly just to hang out at Valle Campanas.

“Amazing start to our Costa Rican vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

This is a wonderful place to stay. Clean, comfortable and you get a true Costa Rica Tico experience. Reina, property owner, is so sweet and welcoming. She helped us arrange a night walk, frog pond tour, and her AMAZING breakfast each morning was to die for. She pressed fresh sugar cane juice for us to try. And while we packed up, her young daughter played with our 4 year old so she would be out of the way. The grounds are landscaped beautifully. They have a small trail leading through the gardens where you'll see banana trees, coffee trees, sloths, and jungle! We stayed for two days, and I would have been happy to spend our entire week with them.

Room Tip: We had a cabin away from the main house, so we didn't see a soul out our balcony. My husband RE...

“Really lovely place, off the beaten path”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

The Monteverde/Santa Elena area can feel rather crowded and touristy for such an out-of-the-way place, so we were happy to have found this place, just outside of the bustle of the main town. We stayed one night here during our honeymoon trip and Reina couldn't have been more warm or accommodating.

The drive to Valle Campanas is a bit bumpy (like a lot of roads in Costa Rica), but once there, the property is beautiful and feels secluded. The cabins are cozy, two-story structures that are simple and rustic, but immaculately clean and charming. They also feel incredibly private and have lovely views of the valley below. We wished we could have stayed longer, and indeed, the set-up of these cabins would be great for small families or small groups who intend to stay for longer periods of time, since the cabins are equipped with kitchenettes and dining areas. And the prices were more than fair!

Although we did not have time to arrange any activities through Reina, being there only one night, she was very knowledgeable about the area and I felt we would have been in good hands if we had asked her to do so.

If you are looking for a full-service, western-style five-star resort, this is not your place, but if you are looking for a wonderful, small local business that exudes the warmth of Costa
Rican hospitality, this place is it!
