“A cozy home in the Cloud Forest”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

In the forests of Monteverde, Costa Rica, there is a place called Home. This is the Poco a Poco Hotel ... at the beginning it was meant to be a house, but the idea of providing deluxe affordable accommodations came after and this is how Poco a Poco was born, your home in the cloud forest!. Today, its 32 comfortable and well set rooms provide a deluxe stay in one of the most famed destinations in Costa Rica.
All services have been planned to make your vacation a dream come true: the front desk where you are greeted and welcomed, the rooms that include the best standard amenities, the heated swimming pool, the Spa and beauty parlor, the restaurant that offers the best fusion and local cuisine and above all the views, the ambiance, the nature surrounding the hotel... everything combines to create a leisure atmosphere that will make you forget about the rest of the world.
From Poco a Poco you can walk to most of the attractions: the Cloud Forest Reserves, several Canopy Tours, the Hanging Bridges, Butterfly Gardens, Horseback Riding, the Cheese Factory, Art Galleries, Orchid Garden, Hummingbird Galleries, the Frog Pond, Children's Eternal Cloud Forest and many other cultural and natural attractions of the area...

“Excellent 3 night stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

I was happy that I chose to stay at Hotel Poco a Poco for the 3 nights I was in the Monteverde area. As a solo traveler, I found the front desk staff extremely welcoming, warm, and helpful. They gave me excellent advice based on my interests as to how best to use my 3 days in the area. Local taxis were readilly available. Interbus drops off and picks up at this Hotel. The small village of Santa Elena is in walking distance and there is a "Super Mega" (large grocery store) located across the street from the hotel. My room was large and clean. When I sat on the small balcony, I felt like I was in my own private treehouse. The breakfasts, included in the price of the room, were substantial. The waitstaff in the restaurant offered excellent service. It was surprisingly windy at night but to the previous reviewers who complained about the noise of the wind, travel smart and bring ear plugs. I found traffic noise at night to be minimal and ear plugs work well for that, too. Overall, I had an outstanding experience at Hotel Poco a Poco and am especially grateful for the kindnesses that were shown me by the front desk staff.

“Nice local, boutique hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We stayed two nights in Monteverde and used this hotel as our base. As mentioned in other reviews, the hotel is small and on a busy street, but traffic at night was minimal and we were able to walk to several good restaurants as well as a zipline adventure. The staff was helpful and the restaurant excellent. The breakfast was plentiful and we enjoyed the local cuisine and the delicious fresh fruits. My only complaint about the hotel is that the public areas were very poorly lit, and the room's lights were low wattage, too, making reading difficult. We usually play cards in the evenings, and the low lights in the sitting area made this impossible. Our room had a little balcony overlooking the pretty garden, but it was chilly and we did not use it much.

Room Tip: Ask to stay away from stairwells and exit doors.

“Great choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

We just stayed at Poco a Poco and enjoyed it very much. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well appointed, the included breakfast was excellent, and the staff were all professional and really nice. We also enjoyed the warm pool and very warm hot tub. Although I know the road noise can be a problem, we were fortunate to have rooms on the top floor and away from the road. I recommend requesting that, although there are no elevators, so walking to the fourth floor is good exercise! Although we all speak fluent Spanigh, I noticed that most of the staff speak excellent English. Also, it is located close enough to central Santa Elena to be able to walk to a number of restaurants, shops and attractions. In addition, it's just a short drive to the cloud forest reserve, as well as other attractions. I happen to work at one of Trip Advisor's top 25 US hotels, so I'm accustomed to excellent customer service and high quality. Hotel Poco a Poco did a great job and I would stay there again if fortunate enough to return to this beautiful part of the country. For moderate hotels in Costa Rica it's a bit high priced, but I realize now that Monteverde/Santa Elena is a very high priced area. Thanks, Poco a Poco. Keep up the good work!

Room Tip: Request a room away from road noise.

“Save Your Money and Visit the Pacific Northwest of America”

The Hotel was clean and the gardens were very pretty. Beware this is a small family hotel and children can be very noisey. They were quite noisey in the pool and jacuzzi. If it is windy, stay in the lower part of the hotel as the room in the upper part of the hotel was so noisey that it sounded like we were riding out a hurricane. We had no sleep. They were very nice about moving us to a new room the next day. We hiked in the Santa Elena park for 4.5 miles the next day. It was a challenging hike, on a muddy path, but we saw only a glimpse of one bird and no butterflies. We were disappointed as were led to believe that this was a wildlife preserve for which we paid $14.00 per person. We have gone on far more interesting hikes in the Northern Califoirnia rainforests,( Lady Bird Johnson Rainforest), and the giant Redwoods are a wonderful bonus. Beware the road to Monteverde is a narrow twisty mountainous road, which did give us some very good views, but a difficult drive. Visit the more tropical coastal and interior parks of the country to view more birds and butterflies.

Room Tip: If it is windy stay in the lower part of the hotel as it can be very noisey. If it is not stay on...
