“Surround yourself with nature”

This a very beautiful property, orignailly a farm (like many other lodges around Monteverde). Very picturesque with a trail. It's next to a great Italian restaurant called La Framonti which was recommened by all the locals here.. Can be a lil chilly in the evenings. Has a fridge and blow dryer and phone. Service is ...alright, but could be better when compared to other places I've visited on a budget. Bugs are to be expected.

“Do not stay here unless you enjoy bugs in your room!”

Honestly, my husband and I can tolerate a lot when it comes to room quality: dirt, mildew, hairs, no a/c, etc. But this hotel was too much to handle for even us. The rooms are literally bare bones: bed, blanket, shower and toilet paper. Only recently did they start adding refridgerators, but ours was dirty and unplugged, so we decided not to wait for it to get cold again. There was no a/c in the rooms, which can be difficult when it gets warm in Costa Rica. We checked for spiders and bugs each night, and had spiders on the second night we had to release before we went to sleep. Our next door neighbors had scorpions in their shower and had to have the management come and take care of them before they could finish their shower. This is not something I want to have to think about when I am on vacation! I leave my room to explore the creatures of the rainforest, but would like a barrier when I come back (and certainly for $60 a night!). Each morning we woke up with hundreds upon hundreds of dead bugs on the floor, which would apparently blow in after the evening storms through the cracks between the floor and the outside. They would be dead because they'd drown from the rain, which would seep onto our floor from the outside floorboards.

I felt very dirty and grungy staying here. Also, their showers back up after 5 minutes and then begin flooding the floor. There is only a 2 inch high tile that separates the shower floor from the bathroom floor, so if you are in the shower too long it will begin flooding the bathroom. I didn't even have enough time to shower and shave before it began flooding, and not to mention the lack of hot water.

With the plethora of options available in Monteverde, this hotel either needs to seriously, seriously upgrade their rooms, or close their doors for business. It's not worth the price they charge!

Room Tip: There are no "best" rooms here.

“Cheap and badly managed”

We stayed in this hotel after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor and we were not happy with our choice. The room was a good size but was in an urgent need of renovation. The bathroom was really uninviting: sink was cracked, cabinet was an old piece of plywood stained brown years ago, faucets were disgusting, shower stall was not clean.
There were two beds in the room which was good because the first one we slept in was very uncomfortable, the second one was ok. The breakfast included in the price of the room was served in a nice enough restaurant but was not good and we decided to eat across the street instead. The grounds are well landscaped and well kept. The staff is not helpfull and really give the impression of not being interested at all. The italian restaurant next door is very pleasant and serve very good food.

“DO NOT STAY HERE!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 March 2011

This place is horrible. Looks great but has managerial style straight out of psychriatric ward. Maid service discusting, never knocked, barged in on naked clients, then refused to clean room when convenient for guest. The front desk lied and denied services. Pouting emotionally challenged children running the place, with no training. The older generation walking around spying into windows and refusing services.
The toilet never worked wirh backed up sewage smell. The walls dripped with mold and mildew. Rooms were damp and cold. The blankets and sheets were smelled of old dirty sweat from years of no laundry.
YUCK!
If you want to experience a completely disfuctional 3 generational family ... give them your money and take their abuse. They do not have any idea of what SERVICE means and what is required from a hotel to their guests.
DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!

“Great home base after long days trekking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2011

Clean, comfortable room and beds with nice amenities. The refrigerator and coffee maker allowed for independent provisioning. LOVED making my own Costa Rican coffee in the morning while planning the day. The hair dryer was convenient as well.

Monteverde nights get colder than I expected. After one night of using the blankets from the second bed, the cleaning lady brought extra blankets; very thoughtful.

The wireless internet doesn't work in the rooms but is available in the reception office. If you don't have your own computer there's one for guests to use for free.
