“Beautiful and Serene Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

This is a beautiful hotel. The staff is amazing as well. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Anytime we had a question, it was answered right away. The rooms are very clean and we had a beautiful view of the Nicoya Peninsula (Pacific) from our room.

As other reviewers have mentioned, you feel like you are in a chalet/cabin. We did not eat in the hotel restaurant so can't comment about that. Friends we met there said it was ok. The wi-fi is complimentary which was nice. Also, cab rides into the city are inexpensive. We walked to the cheese factory from here pretty easily as well.

“Amazing view. Simple hotel.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

The weather at night was awful when I stayed at this hotel. Incredibly windy and it also rained. The hotel is sort of on a hilltop so the wind gave the hotel a lot of punishment. Not being the most heavy sleeper it was very difficult for me to get good sleep. Our room was at the house end and therefore more exposed to the wind. However this does not influence my rating of the hotel. But I would recommend that people avoid Monteverde in the winter if they hate wind.

This hotel is all about location. It's a nice hotel in wood and sort of rustic and the rooms are quite basic. My problem with this hotel is more from a value standpoint. 120 USD per night is expensive relative to other places in the world for similar accomodation. Breakfast was also simple but quality wise very good.

The hotel definitely has an amazing view worth paying for. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Monteverde who wants a room with a view in a nice hotel, and are not on a budget.

“Great room with great views and central location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

The hotel location was perfect as it was central to Santa Elena and Monteverde Centro. The room was very clean and the view of the ocean was beautiful. The downside was the booking. They apparently had 2 websites going. We booked a room that icluded breakfast but were told on day 1 after starting breakfast that it would be $10 per person. Even after showing the front desk the site we booked on they said no it would be $10 per person so they would not even honor what they had on the web. By the way the breakfast was not worth $10 per person, perhaps $5. The Surprising part was the dinners were excellent and they were fairly priced.
Also, it was supposed to have wifi in each room but we were told they broke a cable so it would not be available until Monday (this was Sunday) but we never had it in our room for the whole week we were there. There was wifi available in the lobby.
Overall, the location made it a hotel worth booking as you can walk to great places to eat.
The jacuzzi was sometimes hot sometimes luke warm but always comfortable to be in after a day of hiking.

Room Tip: Be sure to confirm the amenities included in the price before confirming your booking. They are cur...

“Good hotel in the area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We stayed at Hotel Belmar for 2 nights while visiting the Monteverde area. It is a nice hotel with a nice view and helpful staff. The rooms were a good size and the balcony overlooked the rainforest. The sounds of the rainforest were nice to sleep to. They also had a jacuzzi hot tub which was nice at the end of the day. The restaurant was average but had a beautiful view although we only had breakfast there. There is a nice pizza place down the street . The staff were helpful with directions and arranging tours etc. We took the van from Salvatura park as driving around there is an adventure and signs are confusing and often nonexistent . Overall I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

“Good value, friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We stayed at Belmar for one night while visiting Monteverde. It's a nice all-wood hotel with beautiful view, spacious rooms and very close to both Santa Elena and Monteverde cloud forest. The GPS coordintates for the hotel are approx N10.3129 W84.8112. We initially booked one night online and extended our stay for one more night when we got there. However due to change in our travel plans, we had to leave the next day. Despite the short notice, the staff was very understanding and didn’t mind cancelling the reservation for the extra night. I know this is normal practice in North America but it was nice to see it happen in Costa Rica, especially after having a bad experience with another hotel. Out of 5 hotels we stayed in during our visit to CR, the staff in this hotel was by far the best.
