“Good hotel in the area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We stayed at Hotel Belmar for 2 nights while visiting the Monteverde area. It is a nice hotel with a nice view and helpful staff. The rooms were a good size and the balcony overlooked the rainforest. The sounds of the rainforest were nice to sleep to. They also had a jacuzzi hot tub which was nice at the end of the day. The restaurant was average but had a beautiful view although we only had breakfast there. There is a nice pizza place down the street . The staff were helpful with directions and arranging tours etc. We took the van from Salvatura park as driving around there is an adventure and signs are confusing and often nonexistent . Overall I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

“Good value, friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We stayed at Belmar for one night while visiting Monteverde. It's a nice all-wood hotel with beautiful view, spacious rooms and very close to both Santa Elena and Monteverde cloud forest. The GPS coordintates for the hotel are approx N10.3129 W84.8112. We initially booked one night online and extended our stay for one more night when we got there. However due to change in our travel plans, we had to leave the next day. Despite the short notice, the staff was very understanding and didn’t mind cancelling the reservation for the extra night. I know this is normal practice in North America but it was nice to see it happen in Costa Rica, especially after having a bad experience with another hotel. Out of 5 hotels we stayed in during our visit to CR, the staff in this hotel was by far the best.

“Beautiful views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

The view from our room was absolutely beautiful. We were there during the rainy season and during the brief rains, we were able to sit next to the picture windows and relax while enjoying the view. We were able to watch (and hear) monkeys and lots of different birds every day also. The room was quite nice and very spacious. We did have some issues with ants but it is next to the jungle! They weren't bad, just learned not to leave any food out. Brealfast at the restaurant was very good. We didn't eat any other meals there though. The front desk was also very helpful in setting up a couple of tours/guides.

“Beautiful hotel with great views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

We spent 3 nights at the Hotel Belmar on our trip to Costa Rica. The first thing we noticed upon going to our room was the open door to the balcony. We loved the view over the gardens and the bay. The room was very clean. It could have used a couple of comfortable chairs to sit on the balcony or in the room but that did not detract from the experience. The staff could not have been more hospitable. We loved watching Jorge make mango margaritas from fresh mangoes during happy hour and they tasted as good as they looked! The breakfast granola and homemade bread were delicious as were the lunch and dinner we ate there. We also could not have picked a better location as it was central to all the sites we wanted to visit.

“Beautiful, peaceful, great value and quality. Amazing view!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Lovely views of the distant ocean and hotel garden from the restaurant and room balconies. Beautiful, spacious rooms, and lovely landscaping. Very romantic.

Nice bar, average to quite good food, depending on the dish. I had a nice salad for lunch, while my sister loved her vegetarian pasta dish. Didn't care for my seafood pasta at supper so much, but husband enjoyed his Macadamia nut crusted fish. Warning: the soup appetizer is almost a meal in itself. Food was a little expensive vs some other places we ate, but worth it for the convenience and atmosphere. Meal for 3 was around $100, including 2 appetizers, 3 entrees, a bottle of wine, and a couple of beers.

GREAT SERVICE FROM ALL STAFF! The service was faster compared to other places in CR, and more formalized. For example, they explained their restaurant hours at check-in and had a menu to look at right at the front desk. Beer and wine supplied in the mini-fridge. Our breakfast buffet was included in price of room. It consisted of granola, yogurt, fruit, toast, sweet bread, cold cuts, cheese, coffee, juice. One could request a hot egg dish as well. The sort of service this spoiled American is used to getting in the United States, but with that friendly, relaxed Costa Rican touch. We arrived before check-in due to taking the jeep-boat-jeep from Arenal. One of our rooms was ready, while the other was still getting cleaned. So we were able to check in early to the first room and have lunch while the second was being cleaned.

They must have done a great job with insulating and fixing the noise problems others had complained about previously, because we never heard our neighbors or people in the restaurant above us. Stayed at four hotels in CR, and this one was the quietest & prettiest. Best service and best night's rest. Would stay here again if in the area, for sure. Great bargain at around $100 per nite.
