“Perfect for those who want to sleep in Colditz Castle”

We stayed here for one night, booked a double room (with the help of some German friends as there isn't much in the way of an English website) which had another room adjoined to it although we had the place to ourselves.
It was very clean and comfortable and it was easy to pay extra for towels and bedding. All round a good place to stay.
The tours of the castle are excellent and the service in the youth hostel is very helpful.
The only downside was that virtually everywhere in Colditz to eat was closed on a Tuesday, we found one restaurant which served perfectly good food but if you are there on a Tuesday then bear in mind you may struggle.
All round, a really worthwhile stay (and there was free on site parking).

“colditz castle youth hostel and castle tour were both excellent”

I stayed with five friends for one night at the Colditz Casle Youth Hostel. We had two rooms each with six beds and their own bathroom, so had plenty of space. The rooms and bathrooms were spotless and the linen provided looked brand new. Breakfast was included in the tariff and it was very good, even flowers on the table! The place was very quiet. We walked into town to have a look around and had dinner in a comfortable restaurant. The owner even brought out a phrase book so we knew what we were ordering. the next morning we went on the extended English speaking tour of the Castle. This included the German guards quarters, POW's quarters, tunnels dug by pow's, the cellars, sleeping quarters of the pow's, exercise yards inside and outside the castle, theatre, chapel and the escape museum. It was an excellent tour which took 2 hours. Our guide was a local lady and nothing was a trouble for her to explain even though our tour was conducted in pouring rain!. I would recommend the hostel and the tour to anyone..it was a fascinating place. The best way to get to Colditz castle by public transport is to leave Leipzig train station by local bus (6 euros each way) which travels along rural roads and through little towns taking 1 hour 20 minutes. Get off at Colditz Sportplatz and walk toward the castle through the main square. The bus driver can direct you although you see the castle from everywhere. Even though this is off the main tourist route it is well worth a vist.

“Excellent if you like WWII history”

I stayed in the Youth Hostel in Colditz Castel for one night - I'd decided to stay here as I wanted to do the extended POW tour which started at 10.30am which was to early for me to get to from Berlin.

The youth hostel is very clean and basic - no towels or soap so bring your own! It's based in the German Army administration block from when the castle was a POW camp. The gates are closed at 11pm but they do give you a key so you can get back in if visiting the local pubs. The POW tours are well worth going on!
