“Not as good as it looks on the website”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2010

The website paints a much more glowing picture than it is in real life. Firstly, many of the rooms do not face the lake – they’re on the side. Secondly, the rooms are mostly tiny and of an odd shape, although they all have a full kitchen and are air-conditioned, which is a rarity in Europe.

The staff is competent and friendly, and they do have free wi-fi in the reception area. Breakfast is not included in the tariff, and costs 12 euros pp. Previous reviewers have thought it a bad price/performer, so we bought the appropriate provisions in the nearby supermarket and boulangerie.

Bottom line – it is not as good as it looks on the website, so make sure you get the right room.

“Great setting, not so great odor”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2010

I would have given this property an excellent review but for (i) an odor in our apartment that we could never get rid of, and (ii) the dirty microwave, refrigerator and garbage pail. We rented a three-bedroom apartment for five nights. It was on the top floor and had two stories, with bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs and kitchenette, sitting area and a powder room downstairs. The whole facility is fairly new and, as other reviewers have noted, the setting is beautiful. When we arrived in our apartment, we noticed a sort of musty or moldy smell, but we thought it was because the apartment had been closed up without air flow. In short, it took us a couple of days to realize that no amount of airing was going to get rid of the odor - we think it may have come from the shag carpeting upstairs. By that time, we had unpacked and didn't have the energy to move to a different unit, although in retrospect we should have asked for a different one right at the start. Also, housekeeping does not clean the kitchenette. Renters are supposed to clean the refrigerator, microwave, etc., before they leave. Whoever used our unit before us did not do so, and apparently housekeeping never checked.

Another, minor quibble: the facility has WiFi access from the common areas, but we were never able to access it with either our laptop or iPhone. The staff had no explanation as to why. We did not have this problem anywhere else in France or Italy.

On the positive side, the staff was always friendly and certainly tried to be helpful. The bathrooms are modern and very nice. If you have a car, the location is wonderful - quieter and not as commercial as towns closer to Annecy.

“Experience depends on your expectations”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 June 2010

I stayed at this hotel in late May 2010 with a group of colleagues from around the world. Personally, my assigned apartment was fairly comfortable, with a sitting room, kitchenette, and separate bedroom with a modestly comfortable bed. Some of my colleagues however were not so fortunate, having only pull out sofa beds in their rooms, or a combination of bunk beds and a pull out sofa. I believe the rooms called “studios” contain only the pull out bed, so use caution when booking. A few other items to note:

1. There does not seem to be anyone to help with luggage, so plan to pack only what you can carry, including lugging bags up stairs.
2. The location on the lake is lovely, but there is very little nearby. I found a very good bakery within walking distance, but a car was needed to get to the pharmacy or grocery store, or pretty much any restaurant other than the one on the property.
3. Housekeeping service is minimal. Towels were not changed during my 4 day stay, nor was my trash emptied. There was an empty shoebox in my closet upon arrival, presumably from the last guest. There was also no soap provided, I had to go buy my own. Additionally, I kept finding my patio doors unlocked when I returned in the afternoon.
4. The Front desk is only staffed until 8pm
5. The hotel does not seem to offer any basic items for sale such as water, toiletries, or other small necessities, and as I mentioned above, a car is required to get to the store to pick anything up. I was able to purchase a large glass bottle of water at the on site restaurant, but it was expensive and I had to be sure to bring the bottle back.

All in all, I would rate this place as “ok”. I think the experience highly depends on the expectations of the individual. If you are expecting a low service, more independent type experience, and you are planning to have a car, then I think this place is fine. If you are looking for a full service hotel, then this is not the place for you.

“Fantastic Location and Views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2009

Superb location and spotless apartments. We stayed for 1 week in a 2 bedroom suite. All the balconies had lovely views of the lake and the whole place was maintained perfectly. You can swim in the lake and a hot tub if you fancied warming up a touch. There was a bar open all day on the lawned area. The restaurant, however, is separate from the accommodation which wasn't clear from the website

Annecy is only a short drive away and there is a water taxi to take you to various stops around the lake a five minute walk away.

Can't think of down sides unless being picky. I suppose the apartments are not huge and the man looking after the place could come across slightly grumpy, but then he kept the place looking great.

Definite thumbs up all around, recommend the place and the accommodation to anyone and would love to go back.

You were only a short drive from supermarkets an

“Misleading Photos”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2008

Booked through Peak Retreats.
I racked my brain for a day or so to find something wrong with this Hotel/SC. Very difficult however, I have found it. The photo of the beach with the lovely blue deck chairs (in all the adds. photos) does not belong to La Baie des Voiles. It does belong to the restaurant next door. If you want to sit on these it will cost about 10 Euros a day. The restaurant is not brilliant either and very over priced.
Shame. The rest I cannot fault. Brilliant for family's, very clean - friendly staff. I would come hear again.... with my own chair..
