“Pleasant Place”

Lovely studio hotel; clean and pleasant place and friendly staff. It is right on the lake, with an enchanting view. As we were staying out of season, it was very quiet and most relaxing. Do get a massage if you can, well worth it.
Will definitely stay there again. However, the studio was rather small and the place may not be very practical for a lengthy stay.

“Beautiful views and lovely apartment”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 June 2011

.We have just come back from our holiday. After reading some of the reviews before we went we were pleasantly surprised. We had a Junior apartment which had a separate bedroom upstairs which was large enough for a double bed 2 bedside cabinets, hanging space and a 2 seater sofa. There was also a bathroom upstairs. Both had velux roof lights which you could see the tops of the mountains. Downstairs was another toilet, small kitchen area, table and 4 chairs, 3 seater sofa bed, armchair and coffee table plus tv. The apartment was air conditioned but on colder days was lovely and warm and cosy. It was clean and nicely decorated. All fittings were of good quality. The apartment had wonderful views of the Lake and a balcony with 2 chairs. The staff were very friendly and helpful and there was on site parking. We enjoyed ever minute and I couldn't think of a nicer setting to eat breakfast. The only downside was the onsite restaurant was very expensive and we did not eat there. However this restaurant is not run by Les Baies de Volies. Also you do need a car as the supermarket is too far to walk. You can buy bread nearby. You can also hire bikes but to get the best of the area you need a car. The boat calls at Duingt just ten minutes walk away. It costs 16.20 Euros each for a round trip (2 hours) on the lake which allows you 1 stop on the way. We went into Annecy for lunch and then caught the boat back later in the afternoon. Lovely trip with English commentary.Wonderful holiday fully recommend it and the apartments.

“An average place to stay made worse by bad manangement”

Don't expect to turn up to the place you see on the website. Although a lovely setting on the lake most rooms don't face it and it is certainly not a desination for all year round. We went in Winter and there was nothing to do as everything is quite a drive away. But the reason we would never go back is due to faulty electrical writing which gave us electric shocks everytime we touched the bath. Although serious, the manager did not apologise and would not even have moved us into another room without our insistence. She just told us to turn the underfloor heating off (in Feb!) The room they moved us to was worse than the one before and the only thing she could offer us after i protested was a free breakfast as you have to pay the full room rate upfront. The other staff were friendly but i would not recommend this place.

“Not as good as it looks on the website”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2010

The website paints a much more glowing picture than it is in real life. Firstly, many of the rooms do not face the lake – they’re on the side. Secondly, the rooms are mostly tiny and of an odd shape, although they all have a full kitchen and are air-conditioned, which is a rarity in Europe.

The staff is competent and friendly, and they do have free wi-fi in the reception area. Breakfast is not included in the tariff, and costs 12 euros pp. Previous reviewers have thought it a bad price/performer, so we bought the appropriate provisions in the nearby supermarket and boulangerie.

Bottom line – it is not as good as it looks on the website, so make sure you get the right room.

“Great setting, not so great odor”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2010

I would have given this property an excellent review but for (i) an odor in our apartment that we could never get rid of, and (ii) the dirty microwave, refrigerator and garbage pail. We rented a three-bedroom apartment for five nights. It was on the top floor and had two stories, with bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs and kitchenette, sitting area and a powder room downstairs. The whole facility is fairly new and, as other reviewers have noted, the setting is beautiful. When we arrived in our apartment, we noticed a sort of musty or moldy smell, but we thought it was because the apartment had been closed up without air flow. In short, it took us a couple of days to realize that no amount of airing was going to get rid of the odor - we think it may have come from the shag carpeting upstairs. By that time, we had unpacked and didn't have the energy to move to a different unit, although in retrospect we should have asked for a different one right at the start. Also, housekeeping does not clean the kitchenette. Renters are supposed to clean the refrigerator, microwave, etc., before they leave. Whoever used our unit before us did not do so, and apparently housekeeping never checked.

Another, minor quibble: the facility has WiFi access from the common areas, but we were never able to access it with either our laptop or iPhone. The staff had no explanation as to why. We did not have this problem anywhere else in France or Italy.

On the positive side, the staff was always friendly and certainly tried to be helpful. The bathrooms are modern and very nice. If you have a car, the location is wonderful - quieter and not as commercial as towns closer to Annecy.
