I went to the hotel 2 years ago and I'm writing because I'm quite surprised with the latest poor reviews. I have very nice memories of my stay. The scenery, the place and the beach is magnificent. The food is monotonous, quite the same all the time with bits of exception here and there. But still you can always find something for yourself no matter how fussy you are. The animation group tried very hard to entertain us although their English language skills were poor. They were very nice people. The problem was the language, only 2 members of the hotel staff knew English communicatevely, and that was really irritating. However, one of the animator was Polish, so he helped us. Towels were changed every day, the room and bathroom were clean. We had some trouble with checking into our room - it was not ready !!! That's the worst thing I remember - sitting by the pool for 2 hours after a 10 hours' journey. But the remaining 2 weeks were great.

Simply put, this hotel is a 2 stars hotel, advertised and priced like a 4 stars.
It's very far from the beach, and the shuttle never comes "every 5 minutes", as it's advertised. In fact, the 2 ancient and dirty buses have frequent problems; most of the time, only one of them is on duty, so you have to wait at least half an hour to get to the beach. The beach itself is a mere improvisation, with 2 wooden barracks for 'bar' and 'entertaimnent'. With the exception af the children's entertainment and the aqua-gym, entertainment is a bad joke, animated by people who, probably, didn't find any other job.
The hotel is quite dirty, rooms have old furniture, TV sets don't work properly and the bathroom is terrible. 90% of the rooms don't have a window at the bathroom, nor any other system for refreshing the air inside the bathroom, although a true 4 stars hotel should have such a device. Hygene is done using the cheapest materials. More than that: they change the sheets only once a week, although a 4 stars hotel should change them daily.
Food is scarce: every day, the same ingredients, cooked in a different way. Despite being a Calabrian hotel, they only use refrigerated vegetables and you won't find any Calabrian meal at all. Wine - red and white - is miserable and even dangerous. Beer is OK.
Night entertainment is ridiculous, with stupid games and a terrible lack of good sense. On the other hand, the village hosts weddings and anniversaries (?!), almost every night! It's impossible to get rest.
Don't go to Calaghena, you'll waist your money on a cheap and dirty place.
What a pity, because Calabria is so beautiful!

good accomodation (prima beach-site)
poor food and drinks : food of good quality but always cold
drinks all-in: very poor quality (wine etc) + often unavalable
totaly mismanaged by crooks (always trying to charge included services: e g towel-service was included: rent 20 euro + caution 20 euro untill travel agent interviens => free
rates of non-all-in drinks change by the minute: amaretto / sambuca from 2 euro to 4 euro à glass)
resto à la carte is never availible
renting bikes are a danger / all the service goes to the italian guests + wedding parties...
4* is rediculous => rather 2*
one should change the rating and scip the all-in status
very poor hotel with no services... be advised
