“Great view but poor service and inconvenient”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

Hotel views are phenomenal but it is a 20 min taxi ride to Taormina (longer than we thought) and staff service is sub-par. Since we were keenly interested in viewing Taormina the 20-min taxi ride which cost an expensive 25 euros seemed quite inconvenient if you're visiting Taormina's attractions (isola bella, the city itself, and greek theater). The hotel does offer shuttle service but the schedule was not terribly convenient and many times were fully booked forcing you to take a later shuttle, hence the reason for the taxi. The front desk staff were reluctant to provide towels to go to the beach and we had to return to the front desk later after a new batch of laundry was finished. I tried to cancel a taxi ride within minutes of placing a request but the front desk refused to cancel. They were just difficult or disinterested most of the time and it seemed unnecessary. The room itself was quite nice, comfortable, included a balcony with great ocean views, and air conditioning worked well. Aside from the great views, if we had to do it again we'd stay in Taormina proper to make better use of our time and avoid disappointing service.

Dear Guests from San Diego,

thank you for writing about our hotel on Tripadvisor.
According to your comment, you have stayed with us last June but you have posted the feedback 6 months later in December.
Now we are in seasonal close and will open next April and you may assume many things could have changed for our our hotel since last June.
More than this, the delay in posting your comment does not allow us to take immediate actions in case of any discrepancy in our service.
You mention we are not located in Taormina but if you have a look at the previous reviews, you will see that our concept is not about being in Taormina city centre but it's about sea, nature and relax, offering the best hotel views in the area.
To be located close to Taormina is an additional value. May it be that you do not check hotel features and position before booking a room?
Your points about staff service are not supported by specific facts and examples. Should you have provided us with more details everything could have been more helpful to us.
You can see that we always respond to all reviews and this is because a feedback, either negative of positive is a strong opportunity to improve our service. In particular a little more detail about the towels would have help since this is a free service guaranteed to all our guests.
Also, it is not possible to cancel a taxi once it has left since the service has already begun and therefore it has to be paid (not depending from the hotel in any way).
Finally very strange indeed that you have not posted any contribution on Tripadvisor since February 2006 and now you write about us 6 months later you have been here.
I would say that even though we have received more negative feedback than yours in the past, this is one of those rare cases when we are really not in the position of making great use of it.
If you wish, you can send us a more detailed summary of your stay at Baia Taormina so that we can properly reply to all your points.

best regards, Mario Miano

we travelled as part of a tour. the location was ona main road cut off from the beach. the shuttle service was erratic and did not suit our schedule.

If that doesn't concern the reader, the hotel is good. spacious, clean rooms, friendly service and an excellent choice of food both at breakfast and dinner. (lovely roast pork and grilled swordfish). supurb view of the sea.

“We enjoyed our stay at Baia Taormina Grand Palace Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

We stayed at the Baia Taormina Grand Palace hotel for 6 nights - and we were upgraded on arrival to a deluxe suite . We were very pleased with the accommodation. We were on the 6th floor of the new building, and had a large apartment, with a secluded balcony, which had a table, 2 chairs and 2 sun loungers and great views of the bay. We could see views across towards Taormina from our balcony . We enjoyed the hotel facilities, although the bar prices were quite high compared to bars in Taormina, our bedroom was a good size, as was the bathroom. The staff were very helpful and polite to us and we used the shuttle bus on two occasions to take us into Taormina. We thought the breakfast offered was good (despite reading some of the dreadful reports about the food offered in Trip Advisor reviews! ) when we got down to breakfast there was plenty of variety offered, both in different breads, fruit, yoghurts, croissants and other pastries etc. I used the omelette bar to have a ham and mushroom omelette made up for me. The restaurant staff were efficient and in good humour - perhaps they respond to rude guests differently to how they were with us - as we were happy and enjoying our break at the hotel. We would recommend it to others and would say please don't be put off by some of the horrible comments left by people who clearly do not enjoy themselves as much as we did.

Room Tip: Would recommend an apartment in the new building in Grand Palace

Dear Guests from Sevenoaks,

Thank you for the wonderful words towards Baia Taormina, it is a pleasure that our efforts have been so highly appreciated.
Thank you also for the breakfast comments since we are changing some things in order to improve it. Also note that it is not strange to receive different comments for example on breakfast.
Guests have often different expectactions depending on their culture and in my experience I can confirm that breakfast is what mostly divides opinions from the guests.
One last thing for the suite: it is a junior suite and not a deluxe suite. We know it's very appreciated by all our guests but you can see my reply on the feedback entitled "Breath Taking Views" in order to realize that these suites are defined as "junior".
We would be very glad to welcoming you at Baia Taormina again in the future and send our

“Great place, Italian vibe so some weird things to be expected.”

We stayed here five nights. When we finally found it, it was definitely beautiful. The staff was aware of the problems to find it with a GPS, but for some reason they have decided not to share this information on the web-page to help their guests!
We initially got a room at the very back of the hotel, so we would have to take 3 elevators to get to the main hotel, as these room did not have any internet access we requested to be given a new room which we were after the initial night.
The hotel is in a good location between two villages and close to Taormina.
The hotel was clean and pretty quiet. We used the pool a couple of times and dinner once, the dinner buffet was ok, but expensive for what it was.
Definitely recommend going for a nice long weekend or something, at a hotel with breath taking views.

Room Tip: As for a room close to the main house.

“Breath Taking Views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

Hotel Baia Taormina has the most breath taking views of the bay, we were really fortunate enough to be upgraded to the executive suite on the 6th floor-so the views from our private balcony were spetacular-on the left hand side you can see Calabria-and to the right is Taormina and Casetelmola. If you visit the Hotel Baia-make sure you request to stay in the grand palace side of the hotel-which is new and beautiful and has the bay views don't stay at the 'classic' part of the hotel-which is run-down and has no views. The Hotel is well equiped with lovely decor, facilities and pools. The hotel itself is not actually located in Taormina city-Marina d' Agro is about 20 minutes drive to the city centre of Taormina. The Hotel Baia has a shuttle van service that will take you to Taormina and return you to the hotel at no cost. Its also equiped with pool and beach towels-at no cost. I recommend that you eat out-not at the hotel-the hotel has a buffet type lunch/dinner service which is very pricey and food is not that appealing. Get a shuttle bus to Taormina and enjoy sicilian cuisine in any of the trattoria's in the city centre. The Buffet breakfast at the Baia was good-the staff are fantastic-very helpful and friendly and overall our time at the Hotel Baia Taormina was fantastic.

Dear Guests from Sidney,

thank you for reviewing Baia Taormina on Tripadvisor.
We are happy you had a good experience in our hotel and a big thank from our Breakfast Team for the kind comments.
I also take this opportunity to add a comment to some information you report since it is important for all who read to have a correct picture of our hotel.
I am talking for example about the accommodation you define as "executive suite".
We do not have any suite called like that since at the moment we only offer junior suites with terrace sea views.
For next year we will have ready two bigger suites still without a name and soon they can be booked on portals where all details will be indicated.
I am also surprised by the line saying that classic area has no views.
In this part we have all rooms either with balcony or terrace with superb sea views.
If you have the opportunity to visit our hotel again, it will be a pleasure to make an inspection with you in each of the 60 rooms of the classic part so that you can realize how far from reality is this comment.
I am not sure about the line of the pool and beach towel but let me add that there are two pools (one with natural sea water) and a private beach located 2 minutes from us.
I really hope to host you at Baia Taormina once again, perhaps in the brand new suite which will be ready for next year (even if it is unlikely we will call it executive since in my opinion this is a passed definition either of a room and of a suite let alone the fact that it means nothing) and in I also take this opportunity to send my
