“Will definitely return”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

From the very beginning, Colin and Lena could not have been more accommodating and friendly. My husband and I arrived on the train in the pouring rain, to find Colin unexpectedly waiting for us to give us a lift to the guest house - I don't think I've ever been so pleased to see anybody! Our room was clean and tidy, and although it wasn't ensuite (we had been made aware of this when booking - my understanding is that most rooms are ensuite but we were a late reservation), they had reserved a large private bathroom for us and this worked out perfectly. There was a small sink and mirror in our room too. Breakfast was also excellent, with plenty of choice, and we would definitely stay again.

“Lovely spot, very helpful, ace breakfast!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

Stayed here post wedding at Blair Atholl, wasn't in communal areas so can't comment on those, however we had a nice room with nice outlook. Room and bathroom is tight but perfectly charming. Hosts were excellent and the breakfast excelled, with good quality ingredients. They even us a lift back to the castle to save us walking to get the car. No hesitation in recommending.

“friendly atmosphere, accommodating hosts, comfortable, clean rooms, and superb breakfasts make this B&B a delight.”

Literally, from the moment I arrived, Colin and Lena were friendly, accommodating hosts. Although I was hours late after an 11-hour day walking from Kinloch Rannoch, Colin immediately drove me back to pick up backpacking friends from whom I had gotten separated. A friend and I returned 2 weeks later for a longer stay, to explore the hills and local area. It was then I discovered Lena's scrambled eggs and salmon breakfasts, best in my experience in Scotland, and Colin's helpful practical and interesting historical knowledge about Atholl, Rooms are comfortable and clean, and hosts provide unlimited use of internet.. One leaves with warm feeling and sense that he has received value for money.

“Return visit and another lovely stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

We've now stayed at Dalgreine three times in the last few years and Colin and Lena never disappoint! Always a friendly welcome, we love the little touches like tea and muffins on arrival and homemade marmelade. Nothing seems to be too much trouble and advice on walks and activities in the area are always very helpful. The rooms are great, really comfortable and we've stayed in different rooms each time. We recommend this hidden gem to our friends. Hope you enjoy too.

“Not so warm and friendly a welcome”

The website is nice, and promotes a "warm and friendly welcome". This was not my experience. I didn't actually stay here, though I did get as far as booking for my son to stay. The story is....I had just completed my phone booking, for 1 night's stay (for my son) and paid in full by debit card. I then asked 2 genuine questions. Firstly a question about any cancellation policy - a genuine question from a seasoned business traveller. I heard that once I booked, that was it, there was no scope to cancel. I hesitated, then fully accepted this, realising I know little about booking B&Bs. I then asked a genuine question about fresh air flowing into a second floor attic room, a room which wasn't shown on the website, and so I couldn't see the room, to assess this. At this point, despite my having just confirmed my booking, it was suggested if my son "had a problem with needing lots of air, we look elsewhere". My son doesn't have a problem. I don't either. We simply both enjoy fresh air flowing into warm bedrooms, as many people do. I left the conversation feeling confused, sad, and disappointed. This was the B&B I had chosen. It was not a warm and friendly welcome.
