Went with my husband to celebrate a very special occasion. And it was the best place to sit, relax and simply be at peace. The surrounding is clean, quiet and close to nature. Good place to forget the buzz of work and city. Quite homely as well, as we took opportunity of their DVD collection and jacuzzi, and it was fun.Rooms are quite big and spacious and very elegantly designed. The food too was quite good, although we think the selection was limited.

Great place for family and loved ones. Simply to relax and while being one with the natural surroundings.

The place is really quiet and peace full.The staff at River house was truly helpful and attentive. They accommodated all of our needs and requests seemingly without any trouble. They were always friendly and happy to help us is every way. The manager sudath even organized a cricket match with the staff when I mentioned I was a cricket lover

The hotel is very clean having Large rooms, & spacious bathrooms , and modern. It's also a good value. We were impressed.

The food was exceptionally good …the rice and curry in particular

Tucked away behind the west coast this gem of luxury and serenity is an ideal break between the chaos of the airport and Colombo and the attractions of the south coast.
We enjoyed the generously proportioned Gin suite (all the rooms are named after Sri Lankan rivers 'gangas'. ) The meals were simple but excellent - and the service unobtrusive and gracious. We loved the simple elegance and the pretty location.

Tip: Rise before dawn to enjoy a trip on the river.

The River House is a very special holiday retreat. It is in the middle of a green hilly area that overlooks the river. It's very lush and the house is only quite small (5 or 6 rooms I think). When we arrived we were warmly greeted and shown to our room. It was enormous! Stylishly decorated but very in keeping with the traditional Sri Lankan colonial style. The bathroom was equally as large and we had splurged on a jacuzzi room which was a private outdoor space and a lovely indulgence. You are able to kayak on the river or take various trips. The pool, though samll, is perfectly adequate. As ever, in Sri Lanka, the staff were delightful - nothing too much trouble. The food was a little disappointing. BE WARNED: The hotel is 20km south of Bentota!
