My wife and I (young 60’s) have just returned from a lovely 2 week Half Board stay at the Dasia Chandris arranged through Thompson Holidays. We would thoroughly recommend the hotel and Corfu. The hotel stands on a large pretty landscaped site that it shares with its other hotel the Corfu Chandris whose facilities you can use. As mentioned in previous reviews the front of the hotel faces a busy road, which although the bedroom patio door shuts out most of sound sitting on the veranda may not be as restful as it could be. We paid the extra for a sea view room, which was well worth it as it came with the bonus of free beach sun beds. None sea view room residents have to pay 3 euros per person per day. Other benefits with the hotel were, free air conditioning, free safe and fridge in the bedroom. Our room 1510 was on the 5th (top) floor and gave wonderful views of the North East Coast of Corfu, Albania and Greece. The hotel and room hygiene were excellent. The hotel food was also just to our liking, being constantly replenished with plenty of choice. The beach is pebbles so makes walking into the sea a little painful. You can buy rubber beach shoes from the local shops for a few euros, which makes things a lot better. Dasia is nothing special. It has an array of supermarkets, gift shops, taverna's and bars but no old quarter. It does though have an excellent Blue Bus service to Corfu, plus Green Buses to Kasiopi. You can also pick up Green buses to other resorts from Gouvia (the next urban area going to Corfu) or the bus station near the New Fort in Corfu. (Note: On Blue Buses you pay the driver or have a ticket that you get punched. On the Green Buses a conductor collects your fare). Buses are very good value transport although prepare to be squashed on the Blue Bus if you travel at a busy time. The bus drivers and conductors are very, very helpful informing you when you have reached to bus stop you want. We took 1 excursion organised through Thompson’s although if new to Corfu their “Simply Corfu” excursion would be worth while as it gives you a taste of the island. The excursion we went on was the Albanian Experience. This was outsourced to Sassari Travel. While the excursion was well worth going on you did need to keep your wits about you especially if you are travelling on your own or you could easily be left behind. Once in Albania there was no head count taken when returning to the bus or on the return boat to Corfu. Additionally the bus will not necessarily be parked where you got off it so stick to your guide. We didn’t at the Butrint historic site we visited. It was very busy and we got detached form ours. Still it adds a bit of adventure to the excursion. We did 2 walks in the countryside and 1 along the coast. These I put together using the “Landscapes of Corfu” book. The paths were pretty good as were the directions in the book. If you are an outdoor person it is well worth the effort as your reward is picturesque landscape, stunning views, wildlife and quiet villages.
