“The best food served on our whole trip in Norway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2011

This hotel is a family run hotel and has besides the hotel also an motel wing. We stayed in the hotel wing. In the hotel you find a little booklet in Norwegian and English about small trips you can make in the area.

Location is very peacefull and at a beautifull spot. Personnel very friendly and the food in the evening not to miss. Congrats to the chef.

The only negative thing I can tell about this place are the numerous flies bothering you. So if you want a good night sleep, do a fly chase hunt before going to bed.

“Family-run hotel with a great host and good food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2011

We had a three-night stay and the atmosphere and the good food made our stay very enjoyable. The manager and his wife were most accomodating and we certainly would like to go back. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Try to book one of the rooms in the oldest part of the hotel!

“Nice old hotel; get the internet "campaign" rate”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2011

Stryn itself is very touristy and expensive. Drive a little further to Hjelle, which has been bypassed by a new tunnel, and is a quiet little town.
Their website had what they called a "campaign" rate, which was a bargain. This bargain room was supposed to be in an annex, but they put us in the main hotel.
This is a very nice, old, family-owned hotel, built in 1898 and run by 4 generations of people. It has a nice dining room overlooking the water where they serve breakfast and dinner.
I wish we had stayed a second day. Brochures in the room described several interesting hikes to waterfalls and other places.

Room Tip: Click through their website to see if you can find the

“loved it”

It's been a year since my son and I were in Norway and I still rave about this hotel. We had booked a standard double and when we checked in Lorenz offered us a larger room facing the lake (for more money of course). It was worth the money just for the view. We stayed there for 3 nights.

We took a hike up to the abandoned, but currently being restored farm. We went up to the summerskei center but my son had trouble using the t-bar so that was a waste.

The breakfast buffet was very good as were the dinners.

Lorenz and his wife were very friendly and kind dealing with us Americans. They even let us watch the NY Yankee game and other american tv shows on cable in the evening to entertain my son.

I would definitely stay there again, if we travel again to that part of Norway.

“Wonderful find near Stryn”

Wonderful family hotel in the family for 4 generations! Current owner Lorenz and his English born wife Emma make you feel really at home. Tucked away in a quiet corner of a lake and awayy from the traffic thanks to a tunnel. So peaceful and calm with rooms and superb dining room looking right over green water and massive mountains with view of glacier as well.
So many nice touches at this hotel instructions for qalk to nearby waterfall, freee wifi for internet access, make you own packed lunch (albeit for a fee of 40 N Kr) fresh coffee available, use of rowing boat, sauna (din't use it so cannot report)

Food pretty good and one night excellent, and very freindly service. Wine good, thjough as everywhere in Norway not cheap. Bed very comfy and great shower - but no fridge or tv in rooom - helps you get away!

Would definitley come again and try and get a balcony room next time to add to the lake view.
