My boyfriend and I stayed Feb 3-10. This was our first visit to Cuba, but have been to Jamaica, and DR three times, usually to 4.5 or 5 star hotels. I had researched and read many reviews prior to desiding on SRLM. On arrival to our room we were a bit disappointed with the room we were given (very small, more dated than expected), we went to our Nolitour rep who came to the front desk with us, we politely told the lady the room was not what we had expected. We were given a new room and were very happy (which we shared with the lady who assigned the new room). We were pleasantly surprized they actually had king sized beds, a little firm but fine. Although the rooms were dated they were always kept very clean, and well supplied by the maids. The last day of our stay we got a new coffee maker.
The layout of the resort was great as well, if you wanted more action you could be in the Mares section, and for more intimate quiet time the Luna section. In the Luna section some nights there was someone playing the piano or flute. At the Galileo snack bar and at La Pinta beach bar they had great hamburgers and fries. The Colon buffet restaurant had a good selection of food, not as much as we are used to in Jamaica or DR but never went hungry!
The entertainment here was the BEST we had ever seen the Cuban caberat, the 4 male singers that perform before the aquatic entertainmentmare a MUST see (I can't believe I left my camera in my room).
Then there is the BEACH....heaven!! The beach is wide with scattered trees and palapas, so you could enjoy the sun or shade. I felt very safe with lifeguards and security. There was a gentleman there to bring you a beach chair and remove it when you leave which kept everything looking neat. We seen plenty of people snorkelling. We wanted to kayak but there were a lot of waves that week so we opted to use peddleboats. There was also catamerans.
At the front of the hotel there were bicycles, scooters, and cars available to rent. There was also the option to take a taxi, bus or horse drawn carriage to Guardalavaca 6kms away. there is a protected area next to the hotel which you could explore for 3 CUC per person, with trails and a cave.
We went on the country sea tour were we took a Jeep to a two seater speed boat trip, then to a local farm were a lady prepared coffee for us, then to a farmer who had prepared fresh coconut, pineapple, sugar cane and rum. We visited a cigar making factory, went horseback riding on a mountain trail, had a prepared lunch at the ranch. The ride went through back roads of the farming community which there was the opportunity to give the locals gifts. the gifts were not expected but greatly appreciated. As we drove by many people we were always greated by waving and smiles. My BF and myself have never experienced this kind of warmth and friendliness in any other place we have visited, both on and off the resort.
I hope this review has helped others when deciding on choosing their next vacation.
