We stayed here in July 2011 and had a great holiday. We normally go away for our main holiday in August but went earlier this year and enjoyed the fact that there were no children around, not that we mind children but it was a quieter holiday.
The hotel is about ten minutes walk downhill to Kefalos (uphill on the way back) but we enjoy a walk so this was not a problem and apart from a few crazy drivers it was ok provided you walk facing the oncoming traffic.
When we arrived at 3am we could not get into our room as the lock was jammed so we were given a temporary room for the night but the family could not have been more helpful making sure that we in our proper room first thing the following morning. The family are all great and couldn't have been nicer to us throughout our 2 week stay.We were lucky enough to have a high floor with a beautiful uninterupted view of the bay. Ask for a high floor, you wont have noise above and you get a fantastic view.
We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis which was fine for us. We are not big eaters and breakfast was fine, on the days when we wanted a little more we just paid a couple of euros for either a fantastic fresh fruit salad with yogurt and homemade honey or delicious pancakes with icing sugar, yum yum. We did hear some people complaining about the breakfast and dinner (we never ate there in the evening) but for what we paid I dont see how you could complain, these lovely people are just trying to make a living so the additonal prices were hardly going to break the bank.
The only problem for us was the battle of the sunbeds every day. I dont normally put towels on beds but you had to at this hotel or you wouldnt have got a bed after 9am. Some people were up reserving beds from 6am. I dread to think what it would have been like in the height of the season. We dont normally stay by the pool because we like the beach but we werent keen on the pebbles so wanted to be by the pool most days. It was amusing on the one hand watching people going at the crack of dawn to put their towels down but there was also a row between some people whilst we were there which is unfortunate because you are on holiday. I dont know the answer but it is a bit unpleasant and causes some people real upset and grief.
We loved the hotel but as I mentioned we didnt really like the beach in the resort so we hired a car from the Hermes for a few days and went around the island. We loved the beach at Tigaki but preferred the overall resort of Kefalos. We would go back to Kos again and would consider the Hermes but we would hire a car again and go off to different beaches.
You will love the hotel if you go and dont be put off by the reports of the walk to the resort, it isnt that bad. The pros far outweigh the cons, go and enjoy.
