“Idyllic Choice”

My husband and I had promised each other some time in Tuscany to celebrate our fifty years of marriage. Via the internet we found Calcione which was perfect for our two week stay in Casa dei Lecci. We loved the view from our huge terrace where we ate meals and relaxed. The peacefulness of the estate, the long walks exploring the grounds, the friendliness of Olivella's parents, the privacy afforded visitors yet the convenience of internet access at the castle....all helped make our stay most enjoyable. The helpful book of information put together by Olivella led us on many adventures to nearby villages, restaurants, enotecas, and museums. Early morning swims in one of our "private" pools were wonderfully refreshing as we watched the swifts darting about with the horses neighing in the distance. We hope to return one day with our whole family.

“Most wonderful place to be!”

We enjoyed our stay very, very much! One week in La Casetta and one week in Casa dei Lecci and both have their own charms. We loved the quietness, the surrounding, the whole atmosphere. The complete privacy and at the same time the friendly and informal contacts with Olivella and her family, giving any help when needed, made our stay an unforgettable memory. Hope we'll meet again!

“Dream of an idyllic Tuscany with all imaginable charm”

We spent a week here and our only complaint is that it was too short. Yes it is in the country which means you get to see hares, wild boar, deer, squirrels, birds, cicadas and the friendly horses of the estate -- and yes there are lizards (which we loved) and insects (we loved the many butterflies and other pretty ones, and Autan ensured others didn't come too close!) but that's why we loved it. If you don't like nature go to hermetically-sealed hotels!
The wonderful cities of Arezzo, Montepulciano, Pienza and Sienna are all within 45 minute drives of stunning beauty. And the utterly charming town of Lucignano is only 15 minutes away with very friendly supermarket, bakeries and restaurants (we don't know why one reviewer found the drive difficult - go down the hill, follow the road and turn left at the T-junction! Ok it's not a motorway or lit by street lamps but there is no traffic either). In the other direction is the larger and almost as charming Monte San Savino.
We stayed in La Casetta. It was very rustic chic, equipped with everything we could want from electric coffeemaker to salad spinner, washing machine to drying rack and pegs, perfect plumbing, comfortable bed, helpful lighting in all places you might want it (to read, cook, eat).We were struck by so many details - the psychological effect of the change of ceiling design above the bed for instance. Don't expect Meissen china or crystal glasses, but do expect a totally relaxing country retreat.
do take food -- but the incredibly helpful owners will tell you all that before you go, as well as provide a very helpful folder on your arrival.
an unforgettably wonderful week -- we shall be back, next time for longer.

“Perfect family vacation in Tuscany!”

Il Calcione was a perfect fit for our family of five. The apartment was lovely, spacious and comfortable. The view from our rooftop terrace was spectacular! My children all loved their "private" pool and their late-night swims. The also enjoyed exploring the property where they found vineyards, orchards, chilckens, horses and a beautiful lake. We all experienced gracious hospitality in a picture-perfect Tuscan setting. Although the location is a bit remote, all guests are provided with a detailed binder filled with helpful information on things such as nearby shopping, restaurants, train stations and train schedules, museum information, etc. Il Calcoine was the ideal home base for our Tuscan travels.
