We were so excited when we saw the new Kings Arms restaurant in Berkho. We are always looking for somewhere nice to have breakfast as there is a shortage of decent places in Berkho where you can sit down and be served a full English. It looks lovely and cosy when you walk in and the decor is inviting. However the experience is so disappointing. We have visited 4 or 5 times now, each time in the hope that things will have improved, but sadly not. I even wrote a polite letter to the owner but did not get a reply. The service is terrible (apart from one lovely waiter who has recently started - I think he may be Polish - blond hair). When we visited last week there was no-one to greet us, we had to find our own table, then sat for 5 minutes before a waitress came over seemingly surprised that we were there at all and with an attitude almost of 'why on earth are you here?'. This was at 10.30am and the entire place was deserted, there were no other customers in sight. Our coffee arrived, the milk jug was not clean, there was old congealed milk dried around the sides. The butter in the little ramekin had been sloshed in and it looked as though it had been used by someone else. The food is mediocre and the presentation is sloppy.
This is such a pity. I would love to come back and have a wonderful experience as it all looks so lovely and cosy, and it has such potential to be great. My overall impression is that there is a serious lack of senior management present. I have never in the many times I have visited, seen an owner/manager or someone resembling a figure of authority in the restaurant. There is no welcoming feeling, no host or hostess to see that we are all ok and having a good time, we actually feel as though we are a nuisance whenever we walk in.
So we are looking forward to the opening of Carluccios as hopefully we will be able to have a lovely experience there - fingers crossed!
