“Practical,comfortable and friendly.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2010

This is a nice little hotel just to the north-east of Grenoble. It's not the easiest of places to find, but not that way out of town.

The receptionist was friendly and welcoming and check-in was very quick efficient.

The rooms were very clean and functional, but there were tea/coffee making facilities and, above all, free internet access. The bed was comfortable with a choice of pillows, labelled firm or soft so you could select your comfort level.

There are some vending facilities in the lobby, although not particularly cheap. The bar area is clean and serves a good selection of drinks, with good opening hours. It was a nice touch to have some bar snacks presented after ordering too (olives, potato chips and cheese flavour biscuits). The bar prices were a bit expensive, though, but I guess this is a hotel after all.

There is a restaurant attached to the hotel which has an excellent menu and great service. I found the food most agreeable and there was plenty of it too.

Breakfast was a buffet-style continental type. Not a fantastic choice of food, but plenty of it and good quality too.

There is an outdoor swimming pool, but this was closed as it was late in the year.

Above all, this a good little hotel and I would definitely stay again.

“good & welcoming as usual”

We were there last year and still love it this summer while visiting our french friends (the guys who married last year and made us sleep in this nice hotel before)!
This time, weather was rather bad and unwelcomming but here we were, and we've been accomodated late in the evening by a great receptionnist: she understood we were tired from driving and made us fill the fewest paper possible to give us the key rightaway!
Actually, evenso it was already very late on a sunday night (the independently managed [we asked questions!] restaurant next door was dark...) we were a bit starving (but still not much interested in the vending machine chocolate bars!) we checked the bar menu and ordered some snacks: a croque-mesieur and a tartinne, which were... well just snacks (not like the ones you could expect from a Parisian bistro!!) but actually the right kind of warm food you would enjoy after 7 hours driving and before a long night in bed! and the local white wine served by the glass was a smart solution to match with the dishes and our exhaustion of course!!
Nice breakfast the next morning and good help on check out from the other girl at the reception to show us on a map how to get to our friends' chalet.
Good experience here, once again!
Hopefully, we'll be back next year (will try to book gorgeous weather!!)

“Unwelcoming”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2007

We were very disappointed with the hotel as when we eventually found it. We were given a most unwelcoming reception and were told that the restaurant we had been hoping to relax in was closed . No explanation available from what must have been the least helpful receptionist we have ever met.
The view is impressive only if you ignore the foreground of an industrial estate.

“Amazing views, peaceful location, only minor niggles”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2007

We liked this hotel for its beautiful views and peaceful location despite being very near the motorway exit to Crolles.

The room was smaller than at other Holiday Inn Express Hotels we staid at, but very comfortable. We had a room with a double bed and a sofabed on the second (top) floor. However, even with the double sofa-bed opened there was (just) enough room to move and everything was clean and looked new. We loved waking up and seeing snow-capped peaks while lying in bed! There were plenty of parking places both in front and behind the hotel.

There is a small conference centre and restaurant next to the hotel which seem in some way connected to it. The restaurant seemed adequate but for variety one really needs to drive into Crolles or to the area near the motorway exit, where there is also a well-stocked but busy Casino supermarket. The village of Bernin is quite agreeable and has a couple of pizzerias, a rather dingy looking restaurant (although we didn't try it) and a boulangerie and boucherie, but it is unfortunately too far (at least mile and a half) to walk to from the hotel. So if you don't want to drink and drive the restaurant by the hotel is the only realistic option. There was a beer-garden (brasserie) less than a quarter of mile from the hotel but it serves no food.

The pool is smallish (I guess around 20ft x 15ft) but heated and has a handful of loungers around it. We didn't use it though, but some families with children seemed to enjoy it. There are some low-riseoffice buildings near the hotel but they don't detract from the beauty of the views up the mountains. The breakfast buffet (cold) was good and fresh. Staff were only just ok - I guess they knew that guests would like the location and newness of the hotel without them having to try too hard!

Ohter reviewers commented on the difficulty of finding the hotel - and we did too! So here is our tip: Exit the motorway and take the road to Crolles . However, do not turn right into Crolles Centre at the roundabout. Instead take the turning left to Bernin and just as you come into the village turn left by the first Pizza place (and before the Pharmacie). If you missed the turn (easily done) drive to the end of Bernin village and turn back at the roundabout, and on your way back look for the sign to the 'Zone d'Activites' on the right under which the Holiday Inn Express is also signposted with a very small sign.

We staid for 3 nights. The relative isolation of the hotel seemed a small price to pay for the beautiful views, peaceful location., and good basic comforts.

“needle in a haystack”

This average Holiday Inn is not only waaaay off the main highway but extremely hard to find. It's actually hidden behind a small convention center. It took us over an hour to locate this place and that was after asking a dozen people in the town itself where it was situated. Nobody knew! It wasn't until two lovely local ladies actually got in their car and lead us there! Whew! What an exercise. Oh, yeah and the traffic to and from Grenoble back to the main highway can be jammed
