“A huge property providing comfortable stay and excellent food, but for a price”

We stayed there from 13th to 14th January 2012. It is very near to the Central Range of the Kaziranga National Park i.e. Kohora Range.

The rooms are really well appointed with good house keeping staff and really excellent food.

We stayed in Luxury Room which comes with complimentary breakfast and his is really elaborate - from continental to north Indian to south Indian.

The hotel management arranges bon fire in the evening and we found that as a common practice in all such properties there.

On an overall assessment, this is surely a place I would recommend for a stay.

Room Tip: All rooms are well placed, however, selecting one that faces the greenery from both ends would help...

“Nice comfortable stay”

The stay at IORA was very pleasant. The place is landscaped beautifully with a lot of green and colorful flowers. The rooms are comfortable. They have in-house staff staying in the hotel basement or in the adjoining quarters who are very prompt in their service. Booking the reservation did take some calling and emailing on my part but other wise their front desk staff were very helpful.

Our pick up and safaris were arranged professionally. Apart from the common elephant and jeep safaris, we also did a 3 hour trek (arranged by IORA) at the Burapahar range. The best part was when we crossed the jungle and went on to the sandy plains of the Brahmaputra river. We saw footprints of the elusive wild cats. Gibbons were aplenty and we got a nice feel of walking through the jungle.

Loved the food at the Assamese restaurant, Bhatbaan. Had chicken and bamboo shoot cooked in a bamboo sleeve over charcoal fire (Bahor Sungat Dia Bahgaj Aru Gahori) with rice and also ordered a catfish cooked in peppery sauce as a side dish. Was yum! My wife is a vegetarian and did not have too many options. So it was a one time visit for us. The rest of our food was at their other multi-cuisine restaurant. We also tried the famed north east chilli vodka (not listed on the menu but read about it online) at their bar and found it okay.

We met a local on a post lunch walk outside the resort. We saw many other places along the way but none really stood out. We realized and also heard from the local that IORA is a high end and expensive resort for the region.

Overall we loved the place and would definitely recommend it.

“Enjoyed my stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

My second trip to kaziranga with my family. First trip stayed in a govt run resort..Aranya i think...horrible! Iora is a really good resort..kids enjoyed the beautifully maintained garden and the food is delicious. Planning a trip again in summer to enjoy the swimming pool. Have a gripe about the game room. It was in a bad condition, mattresses lying around, broken rackets etc. Hope they fix that.

“Life after Guwahati...............peace”

After three days battling with the challenge of Guwahati it was blissful to enjoy the attractions of the Kaziranga National Park in general and the IORA Retreat in particular. Generous accommodation, superb food (particularly the Assamese specialities) and attentive caring service made this the highlight of 6 weeks in the subcontinent.

Room Tip: the higher the better, go for top floor (of two).

I have been to this resort a no. of times with family and friends, as it is very near to NRL, where I work.
Beautiful resort, Good food and service, Courteous staff with buffet lunch on Sundays (cost @ Rs. 350/- per person).
Picturesque garden, well maintained swimming pool. Very near to the Kaziranga national park
We hang out there almost once in every month.
