“This is a Awesome Hotel/Apt - A Home away from Home”

Wow What an Amazing Manager and staff ... Let me share my amazing two week experience When I went to Melbourne on a business trip for a week and a week’s vacation I stayed at the Quest Hotel on 8 Dorcus street. The staff ( Shirley-Mgr, Rhaianna, Sue, and Sharlee ) there was the best I have ever had the privilege of visiting with on business or vacation. They attended my every need while working and made arrangements for me and my partner while on vacation. They were professional, friendly and attentive. We all ended up being quick friends and chatting on a daily basis. It did not matter what we asked of them, they were there for us and made our trip a wonderful experience. On our last night there we wanted to go to a nice dinner. The restaurant that I had picked was booked so the girls went out of their way and decided that they would find us a nice place for our last meal. They did a wonderful job and found us a great restaurant on the bay. Donovan’s in St Kilda was a great restaurant with a great service staff. The meal was perfect and made our last night there special.

Before we went to eat the girls had put a nice note with directions to the restaurant and a beautiful bottle of wine in our room. Donovan’s does not allow BYO/Wine Corkage so we brought the wine home to enjoy here.

I can honestly say that the staff at the hotel made our trip complete. They always had a suggestion for us if we were stumped on what we wanted to do on any one day and always wanted to hear about our adventures when we got back to the hotel. The rooms were well maintained and if for some reason we missed the cleaning crew the girls made sure we had what we needed in the room. They would either take care of it themselves or find the cleaning staff and send them to our room. We never lacked anything during our visit and we well taken care of. This is an excellent choice if you want to be close to downtown but not in the middle of the busy traffic and noise. The metro trams are right outside the door and you have easy access to everything you might want to do. They made all of our arrangements for the great ocean road experience and several other excursions we did. We will be staying there the next time we visit and look forward to seeing the staff again. An Amazing team I tell you and the apartments were a great quite place to come home every day.

A truely rare find staying here at the Quest Dorcas, and one you should realy consider for your Melbourne stay while in Australia,"it's Easy" as they say down under.

Thanks
LMCESP

“Great location and excellent service”

We stayed 5 nights in a 2 bedroom executive apartment for $275 including parking. There were four of us in the group and we were very comfortable in this apartment during our stay.

The location of this building is great. If you are driving down to Melbourne on the Hume Highway you take the toll road. This building is just a few hundred metres from one of the exits. No need to brave CBD traffic. There was plenty of parking available. Most of the parks are for permanent residents of the building. On each level there are a few parks for guests. Some of these are in prime position just across from the elevators.

You are just across the road from the botanic gardens which are great for a quiet walk. There is also a tram stop within a few hundred metres which takes you to town or other places.

There a lots of great shops and restaurants within walking distance. South Melbourne has a great village atmosphere and we really enjoyed staying there. The South Melbourne markets are great for fresh food. There is a Coles which is about 10-15 minutes walk as well as lots of boutiques and cafes. I much preferred the charm of Soth Melbourne to the CBD. It has nice wide streets, which weren't too crowded, with lots of old buildings .

The staff at this establishment is very helpful. We had lots of special requests which were all met without any fuss. The reception desk has tram tickets so you can just collect whatever you need. Newspapers are also available at reception.

Internet access is available in the room via network cable or wireless. I thought it was a bit expensive. We paid $60 for 5 days access but with a download limit of 600MB. If you're on holidays and surfing the internet that allowance is likely to be exhausted. So we had to top up our internet on the last couple of nights. The morale of the story is - sign up for wireless broadband before leaving home. It couldn't be more expensive than this.

The room itself featured two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Each bedroom had a comfortable queen size bed and ensuite bathroom. The master bedroom also had an LCD TV with DVD player. There was sufficent storage and desk space in each room.

The living room was compact as you would expect for an inner city apartment. There was a lounge suite and TV with DVD player. The kitchen was small but well equipped with crockery, glassware and decent appliances. The dining chairs were not very practical as they were too low. I am of average height and I needed a cushion to raise me to a reasonable height to eat from the table. In my view they choose the wrong style of furniture for the size of the room. We had a nice view from our living room out to the botanic gardens and the sea.

One concern I had about the apartment was that there was only one air conditioning unit. This was in the living room. There were two heating units - one in the living room the other in the master bedroom. We stayed in autumn so this wasn't really a problem. If you stayed in summer you might find it a bit warm in the bedrooms.

The gym in this building is pretty bad. It has a few machines and two treadmills. Judging by the instructions displayed on the machines this equiment dates from the 1980s or possibly 1990s. The friction on the pulleys gave me a better workout than the weights I added. The only thing that worked was the treadmill. The gym has a nice view but is otherwise a white elephant. The building's interior is quite modern so i'm not sure why the gym is so old. My suggestion is to walk the botanic gardens circuit for exercise.

Overall we had a great stay in Melbourne and this apartment was very comfortable. I would recommend it and intend to stay here again when we visit Melbourne in the future.

“Great place to stay”

I've stayed here on two occasions - both while attending a training course at a nearby facility. The building is shared by Quest and by other permanent residents.
Both stays, have been in the same room - which was clean and tidy to a level I don't usually see in hotels/serviced apartments. I've been impressed on all occasions.
The building is very secure, and parking is provided (for a fee). Staff were friendly and helpful.

Its worth noting that this is a service apartment - not a hotel; so don't expect room service or anything like that. Restaurants and shops are within walking distance, and its a short taxi ride to Crown. I highly recommend the nearby asian restaurant "Peko Peko".

  • Liked — Very clean and tidy
  • Disliked — The bed was pretty ordinary (but what can you expect from hotels...)

“Modern decor with great sevice”

Quest on Dorcas is a modern apartment complex in South Melbourne. Rooms are very spacious and tastefully decorated. I have stayed in both one bedroom and two bedroom apoartments in the complex and always choose this property when i travel to Melbourne.
One side of the building looks over the army base and freeway, and the other looks over the city skyline - which is spectacular at night. Noise is not an issue here and i have not been disturbed by the noise.
The property contains a gym which can be utilised by the guest for free. Residents also live in the building, but they don't seem to intrude at all.
The staff at Quest on Dorcas are very easy to get along with and are always there to help.

This is a really well run establishment.
I stayed here as I was doing a Landmark Forum course not far from this property. (If you are doing one also it will only take you about eight minutes to walk there)
Very modern charcoal Grey with red furnishings, full stainless kitchen with dishwasher.
I stayed in the one bedroom which was fantastic. The only thing is it dosent have a bath but does have a huge bathroom including washer / dryer.
Staff are lovely.
I will stay here every time I have to go back.
Also the closest tram stop is up on St Kilda road a thirty second trip away and getting into the city only takes about three or four minutes.
