We just returned from a 5-day ski trip to Kirchdorf in Tirol and have to rave about another wonderful experience at Feriengut Oberhabach (we stayed there in January 2007 as well).
This is a family-run pension that truly makes you feel part of the family. From the moment you walk through the door, you are greeted, remembered (even from only one prior visit!), and made to feel special.
We booked our vacation through the tour operator Tyrolian Tours. We enjoyed our stay at the Oberhabach last year so much we asked to stay there again and even though this year they are no longer working with Tyrolian Tours they made an exception for us there (from now on one should book with them directly).
It's a lovely small pension with lots of Tyrolian touches. There is a lovely fireplace in the front room, where a daily snack is set out at 3 pm, and a cozy bar where guests congregate in the evening.
Meals are taken in yet another room just for dining and families/parties are seated at their "own" table set just for them during their stay. Meals are simple but fresh and tasty - it's definitely worth taking the half board.
There is a separate ski room on the ground floor as well as immaculate restrooms, a children's playroom, and the aforementioned common rooms. One can swim or use the sauna at the neighboring Hotel Seiwald for a minimal extra fee.
In front of the house is a large garden, play equipment (perfect for summer!) and a fantastic sledding hill.
The ski school in Kirchdorf is within walking distance, and several ski resorts (Steinplatte, St. Johann, Fieberbrunn, Kitzbuehel) are only a short drive.
It's truly the perfect place for a family ski holiday (or a summer one - we hope to return!) We noticed several families at the hotel this year who were there at the same time as us last year - seems that loyalty is strong, and for good reason.
Sadly, we leave Austria next year and won't be back for a while - but I wanted to give a hearty recommendation that other families can take advantage of this wonderful pension in the meantime.
