“Return to the Avenue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We stayed in the Avenue in early December but this was our second visit as we had been there almost exactly a year previously. At first the situation seems a little underwhelming as Aboulevard is a busy main road which can seem a little run down in places and there are no obvious attractions close to the hotel; if fact its situation is excellent. The hotel is about 5 mins walk from Forum metro station which is on a direct metro line from the airport, 15-20 mins walk takes you to the centre of town but again the metro is on hand as well.

Reception staff were efficient and friendly and of course spoke perfect english. There was free wifi and bicycles and umbrellas were available for guest use. Our room was well equipped and comfortable rather than luxurious but I would suspect that rooms at the front of the hotel could be noisy.

There are two outstanding features of the Avenue; the comfortable and cosy lounge and the superb breakfasts. The lounge has a pleasant bar, very comfortable sofas, a great range of books and magazines, board games and on our first visit a DJ playing classical music mixes! The buffet breakfast is probably the best we have had anywhere. There is the usual selection of cereals, cold meats, cheeses etc and wonderful fresh rolls and pastries, everything to a very high standard. A great start to the day.

Right across the road from the hotel is the start of Norrebro, the hip, edgy part of Copenhagen akin to Spitalfields in London or Lower East side in New York. Great bars, restaurants and funky shops. Ignore the graffiti but watch out for the bikes!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel are quieter and check on the cost of an upgrade. The lift is TINY so...

“Enjoyable stay in Avenue Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2011

My wife and I stayed here on the first weekend in December to visit Copenhagen and the Xmas market.

The hotel is about 10-15 mins walk from Tivoli and the City Centre and about 30 - 40 mins cab drive from the airport.

The staff in the hotel were great very warm and welcoming, the lounge/bar area was nice, not very big but big enough had a warm and cosy feel to it. There is no Restaurant for an evening meal however there is a bar menu with Pizzas (delivered from Pizza take out next door), Sushi and also a few hot meals. There is also a nice Italian about 1 mins walk across the road which the staff recommdend to us and the food was very nice, all the main meals were starter sized portions so you could have a few main courses.

We did have a look at alot of hotels in Copenhagen and they all seeemed to resemble a small Ikea showroom, the room at Avenue was large, and I would describe it as basic luxury (Sofa, flat screen TV, Desk), not really luxurious but I believe there are some luxury rooms in the hotel. The one we stayed in was a little tired looking, needed a good lick of paint and some home comforts to make it warm but it was clean. We booked quite late and could only get a family room (2 x Twin beds and a Sofa bed) but they had pushed the Twin beds together.

The noise from the main road was a little loud although we were on the first floor on the street side.

Overall an excellent hotel, very good staff, walkable into Copenhagen so it was in a good location although Copenhagen seems to have a bit of a graffiti problem and there was graffiti on the buildings opposite the hotel however it seems to be prevelant through out the city.

I would stay here again if I visited the city but would book early and request one of the more luxurious rooms....

Room Tip: I think the Mr and Mrs Smith website details which rooms are nice and which ones to ask for.

“Unbelievable Lounge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

Stayed in the hotel for 2 nights in November 2011 and can't speak highly enough about the lounge area, cosy warm fire, great selection of drinks at the bar and all in all a great place to wind down after busy days sightseeing. The breakfast was superb, something for everybody and we'd definitely recommend this hotel to all of our friends. Look forward to coming back again soon!

“Pumpkins and Museli”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

Spent a wonderful three days in Danemark just before Halloween and adored the care taken with the decoration at the Avenue hotel. Pumpkins, heather and white Hydrangeas sat on the outside terrasse and the fruit bowl at the bottom of the stairs had the most beautiful apples.
the staff were friendly, the living room with log fire cosy, and the breakfast with homemade breads, fresh coffee and every type of museli possible was just perfect.

“A real gem of a place, it restored our belief that hotels can be warm friendly and unique”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

This is the second time of staying here and equally fantastic. Warm considerate young staff that have not had their individuality trampled upon to live up to some corporate model as in many hotels, nor do they have the seething sense of being badly paid to do a crap job whilst maintaining a veneer of fixed smiles, these guys seem really to enjoy their jobs and are empowered to make decisions and deliver a great service. the hotel is clean, elegant and whilst being a three star I'd rather stay here than a more expensive 4 star any day. We wanted a quiet room they gave us one, , very clean, big window, state of the art bathroom and very comfy beds.
Great stylish lounge, warm fire to sit in front of at the end of a long day, and a breakfast with ever changing delicacies, home made conserves, interesting salads, cold cuts, great bread and super tea. Wish the chef did evening meals.
On wednesday evenings a dj plays his favourite classical music finds and we had two concerts in the hotel (part of a nearby world music trade fair) that created a warm, interesting atmosphere.
Highly recommend, worth every penny and better than any other 3star in Copenhagen. (what ever you do avoid the 'cabinns'.
