“Lovely stay”

We had a lovely stay at River Cottage. The B and B itself is well decorated, comfortable and the owners have paid a lot of attention to detail. We had the room where the bathroom was opposite but this was not a problem. We didn't see anyone on our way to or from and it was a nice and big bathroom. John and Gilly gave us lots of helpful tips re: days out such as getting to Chatsworth early to avoid the queues, which we did and we really enjoyed the breakfasts.

“Candle lit breakfast.”

Very friendly, welcoming hosts just what you want after a long drive in the winter. The beautifully decorated spotlessly clean house was as warm as toast, and we were quite contented to snuggle up until it was time to go off in search of an evening meal. Breakfast was fresh produce and well cooked. I always like home made bread and preserves along with fresh fruit cereal etc. . Even in winter the garden looked a picture, and the A6 was no problem at all. The location was spot on for numerous sights within a short drive and we managed to fill a short mid-week break easily. We would certainly reccomend it and may well check in if we find ourselves that way again.

Room Tip: Don't think it would make a lot of difference we had room 2 which was fine, although I believe t...

“What a beautiful part of England”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2011

We absolutely loved our stay at the River Cottage. Gilly and John are fabulous hosts and the property is devine. We loved feeding the trout in the stream that runs past the property and enjoyed the walks around the area. Who would think that on a 7 week European holiday we would be staying with a mad Kiwi on the morning of the World Cup Rugby final. Everything about our stay here was fantastic. The breakfast is amazing, even when the footy is on! and the conversation very enjoyable. Our room was perfect. Thanks gilly & John for a fabulous time. Jim & Julie from Oz

River Cottage is simply delightful; the rooms are well appointed, attention to detail spot on. Jilly and John are splendid hosts; the breakfasts are fantastic, with freshly made bread and homemade conserves.

“Just Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

This was my third time at River Cottage and it was as good as ever. Gilly and John are great hosts and happy to share all the local knowledge of what to do and where to go. Breakfast was the best I've had especailly the black pudding! I can't say I found the A6 to be an issue, the room was lovely and quiet at night. We will be back again.
